Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Center for Weight Management at St. Francis Hospital
As long as you have a family member or friend there to help you, your fine. If you have to depend on the hospital staff alone, that would be scary. If it wasnt for my husband taking off/on my leg cuffs and unplugging the IV machine so I could walk, I would have never been up walking. I was suppose to be getting breathing treatments cause my oxygen level was low, but wasnt getting them till Dr. Oh showed up and asked me. One morning when i woke up I had to got to the bathroom bad. I buzzed the nurses 3x they kept saying they were coming, finally my room mate hobbled over and took the leg cuffs off and unplugged me so I could get up and go, the nurses finally showed up 10 minutes later. All the nurses were very nice and friendly, I would just strongly suggest having a loved one with you as much as possible.
I had no problem what so ever with staff nor my accomadations of room..I was lucky enough to have a private room. I was always taken care of with pain meds and liquids..even had a nurse keep me company while I had to do my walks at 1am. Never once felt ignored or mistreated. I would recommend the staff and hospital to anyone.
There were problems with most of the nurses. The left hand never knew what the right was doing. I was given pills, insetad of liquid. I was kept for two days in a room with a man who kept shouting obscenities to people on the phone. Sometimes my medications were given to me every 4 hours, other times every 8. I constantly had to to request medication 2-3 times before it would come, sometimes after many hours. I am all for diversity, but more than 50 of the nurses were from non-English speaking countries (this caused problems.)
I went to the ward in the P.M. The afternoon staff was very helpful getting me settled into my room. The evening shift was very slow to respond to the call button and most of the time answered with the intercom. They did not seem to take much interest in recording fluid intake and discharge. The morning crew was more responsive. Most of the floor staff was friendly and supportive with the exception of the graveyard shift.
