Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Center for Weight Management at St. Francis Hospital
Overall I was very diappointed with my stay at the hopital. I didn't get the feeling that this was a caring group of people who took pride in their jobs. Some of them I felt like they were just there for the paycheck. I was very happy to have family there to keep up on everything making sure I was taken care of. My sister also had the same surgery on the same day and she felt the same way that I did. We had a friend come visit who is working on her nursing degree and she was appauled at the care that was being given and the attitued of the staff. I was shocked at when it came close to the shift change that most things just got passed on to the next group. You would never know that these WLS were done at this hospital all the time. I thought that there would be a group of people who would be sympothetic and very knowledgeable about this surgery, but I didn't get that feeling. I had two nurse that I felt did a good job and that was Lee, and Larry. I'm not sure that I would go to that hospital again if I had a choice.
I would like to add that when I had my tummy tuck done on 6/5/03. I felt much better about this hospital. I think they have tried to improve. I'm hoping it's not that I'm no longer obese. I felt like they tried a lot more and were quicker to respond when I needed something. I only had one night nurse that I felt a little frustrated with. Over all I think they did a great job this time.
I had to go back to the hospital when a marginal ulcer formed in my pouch, and I have to say that my experience in the ER was horrible. None of the staff seemed to have a clue what to do with me. I couldn't lie down because the bed wasn't adjustable, and I couldn't lie flat on my back with a brand new 6-inch incision on my stomach. So I sat there throwing up & miserable for 4 hours before my surgeon was paged. Once I was admitted to the hospital, my experience was only positive from that point on. But if you have an emergency, find another hospital.
Staff was very friendly and really seemed to care for you as an individual. Even though the staff was short, I still felt I was given adequate attention. Having never been through surgery before, I couldn't wait to get out of the ICU into which all of Dr. Srikanth's patients over 300 lbs must go after surgery. I literaly got sore from all the hands on, etc. there was in ICU. But I do also understand the need for these procedures.
over all my stay was great! i only had a problem with one of the night nurses being a little short and rough on me. my ICU nurses were GREAT!!! i wish that i would have gotten thier names i would have sent them a card! i was able to get a private room. they will really try and do that if they have them avail. and the hospital gowns actually fit!!!
