Dr. Shanley Deal, Bariatric Surgeon Shanley Deal, MD specializes in minimally invasive (laparoscopic and robotic) Bariatric Surgery, General Surgery, Esophageal Surgery at The Center for Weight Management at St. Francis.  She has a special interest in complex abdominal wall hernias, inguinal hernias, and gallbladder surgery. She earned her medical degree at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and completed a residency in General Surgery at Virginia Mason Medical Center. In addition, she was fellowship trained in Advanced GI/MIS Bariatric Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin and in Surgical Medical Research at Virginia Mason Medical Center. Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery (ABS), Dr. Deal is a Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) member, a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the Association of Program Directors in Surgery (APDS), and the Association of Surgical Education (ASE). She is the author and co-author of several publications and the recipient of numerous awards, including the prestigious Richard C. Thirlby Award presented to the chief resident who exemplifies availability, affability, and ability (Virginia Mason General Surgery), First Place Resident Case Presentation, and the Virginia Mason Scholarly Achievement Award. Dr. Deal loves spending time with her family and friends, running, playing volleyball, hiking, and traveling.
