Highland Hospital Hospital
they were very attentive--except right at discharge. I was dressing, and the door was closed. A team from the ER or OR burst right in, along with a new admission and their family members. They knocked quickly, but did not wait for a response. I complained later to the nurse administrator when I returned for my two week checkup with my surgeon.
Dr. Omalley has gained a excellent reputation for his RNY surgery.(open and lap) Canadians are treated very excellent by getting shorter wait time for surgery, and most of the preop visits are lined up in the same day for fewer visits to Rochester New York. It was very through and well run. There was a good balance of teaching as well of personal responsibility of using this tool for the rest of your life. Each step you are guided with verbal as well as written details as to what is to happen and what is expected of you to have success. The staff were excellent and the equipment were very helpful. I rate my stay as a good to excellent.
I got the feeling that the nurses and techs really loved their jobs, and it showed daily in their patience and understanding. The only thing they may want to work on is getting pain meds to the patient a little quicker. I just learnt to ask for them a half hour before I needed them and it worked out fine. They were not ignoring my requests they are just very busy and always apoligized for the delay.
I only had one problem with one nurse on one shift. During the day shift the day after my surgery I was not given as much attention as I felt I needed, my pain meds were late so I was more miserable & in pain, but as soon as 3pm iht and the new set of nurses came on I was once again treated great! The head of nurses for the floor came to my room and talked to me for a while about the problems I did have with the nurses, Joyce was awesome. She also took the time to walk me out at discharge & say goodbye. . . If anyone ever has a problem there ask for her. you will be teken care of!
