Highland Hospital Hospital
I found the hospital to be more ~peaceful~ than any other in the area - probably because it is smaller. As with any hospital - the care varies depending on who is working. Over all - the experience at Highland is one I would chose to repeat. I will never go to Strong Memorial or Rochester General. I've had too many horror stories of my own, in addition to hearing those of others! Highland any day!!
The only difficulty I had was with one of the night nurses. She had been putting the pain and anti-nausea medication into my iv line without checking my hand. Each time I screamed - and each time she left the room as if everything was fine. Finally, the last time I told her to stop - that the pain in my hand wasn't worth it - THEN she looked at my hand and realized my iv had infiltrated. She only commented that "we" would have to put a new iv in. They stuck me 8 times trying to put the iv in my other hand and finally put it on the inside of my wrist. It's now almost 1 month later and the hand that had the infiltrated iv is still horribly sore.
Highland has a specific wing for bariatric patients of both Dr. O'Malley and Dr. Boss. I found the staff and equipment to be able to adequately handle an obese patient like myself. I would recommend highly the nursing staff both in the afternoon and evening shifts. I have nothing but good things to say about these wonderful nurses as well as the residents and Dr. O'Malley himself who periodically checked on me.
