Highland Hospital Hospital
My nurses and techs were great. Not always able to get me what I needed right away. This was understandable as the patient in the next room was loud and demanding. This made sleep difficult at times as well, but my nurses were so kind in trying to accomodate my rest. I only waited 3 minutes max for pain meds.
Best hospital staff I have dealt with in the area.
The first day I stayed I was not impressed with my RN getting to me 30-45 mins after request for things like pain medication and she was mostly absent for the entirety of her shift with me- I made few requests so I didn't think I was being a pain. I was able to change my mind about my care when I got a great couple of RN's who genuinely showed concern for my comfort and well-being.
Patient techs were attentive but not always good at problem-solving a situation. I didn't think I would be staying as long as I did- and when my roommate there decided she would frequently bump up the heat (I'm talking like 85) it became unbearable and I sat with wet washcloths and a propped up fan to cool off. Staff was able to find the fan in a short time- I just wished someone had collaborated with the roommate to request the heat be turned down. Highland is not an awful hospital- I think a lot of people make it a pretty good place and the personal attention they put into it can make things go so much smoother. I can't stress enough- go with the private room if you can afford it!
The staff was very nice, but you could tell they were overworked. I was on swabs and it took over two hours to get ice for the swab because they just kept forgetting. This happens alot where you ask for something and although their intentions are genuine, they just forget about the request because they move on to another patient. It can be very frustrating when you are not mobile enough to get things yourself! Hopefully if there was an emergency, they would be right there for you!
