Highland Hospital Hospital
The hospital didn't seem as clean as I would have liked to have seen. There were stains on the curtains and ceilings that looked as though it could have been blood. The room tag above my bed had so much dust on it that it was just hanging off the tag. The nursing staff never once came to be sure that I got out of bed after surgery and everything I've ever read said that getting up and moving around is the most important to recovery. I got myself out of bed to use the bathroom and to make sure I was up and walking around. I found this to be very disappointing as I thought that the hospital would have been more concerned with my recovery.
I was very pleased with the staff at highland... my nurses, the techs, and all the staff I encountered were helpful, friendly, and really encouraging. My only complaint was that my pain was not managed well, I felt that the type of medicine should have been changed as it was not working for me, and they would not change it... other than that, they were great.... once I was finally changed to vicodin, rather than morphine, I began to have relief from pain. I was alone during my stay, but the staff was attentive to my needs, and answered the call bell in a reasonable amount of time.
I am very pleased with the surgeon and anesthesiologist. I had a bad experience with many careless mistakes that ranged from being dropped to having a syringe that was on the floor almost inserted into my IV. A friend who was in at the same time recieved much better care, so I wonder if I didn't get the least skilled staff. It causes me great concern.
The nuring staff was AWESOME!!!! I felt as if I had known them forever! They really care about their patients, in a loving and friendly way....
Every single one of my nurses was "The Best" Doug, Cathy, Geordie, Lydia...and the trainees...Leasha and Mike were so attentive and friendly.
Now how often do you remember the names??? These people I will never forget!!!! Thanks for loving your jobs and the people you care for!
Highland Hospital holds it's own against any other hospital I've ever been in. The staff really goes out of their way to care for their patients, and succeeds in establishing rapport and a real "connection". I commend them highly, as everyone I met there was just wonderful, and it's the people wo make the institution! Thanks for the great care, Highland!
Nurses and Doctors in the presurgery room were wonderful.
Nurses and Techs that were assigned to me during the stay were mostly wonderful. There was always that one that you never saw except for the beginning of her shift and the end of the shift, but I was pretty lucky because those assigned to me were very attentive. They would check in on me even if I didn't call them.
Surgery day was very smooth. Everyone was very well prepared, and every step went without a hitch. I opted for a private room and I am so very glad I did. I was very rested, and received excellent care. Rooms could be temperature controlled individually, so it was great to have the air blasting. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay!
Prior to surgery my thoughts were: Very slow in outpatient admissions. Also, the chairs for the group session were quite small. Although I fit fine, I noticed they were way to small for some people and I felt really bad. Duh. Why not get bigger chairs w/ no arms??
