Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital (COE) Hospital
Easy to get around, they even give the people waiting for you to get out of surgery, a PAGER so they can page you to let you know when they are done...isnt that cool? They also brought in a special bed that they rented just for me for the surgery, and it was NIIIIICE! They also have hospital gown that dont show your butt...this was a plus for me!!
The pre-op classes put on at the hospital were VERY informative and proved to be very helpful. I went into the surgery well prepared, knowing exactly what to expect before, during and after my surgery experience.
This proved to be VERY helpful since there was not much information given during my actual hospital stay. Had I not been trained ahead of time, I would not have been as diligent to do the things I was supposed to during my stay. The nurses didn't really stress walking, and deep breathing as much during my actual stay, but I still did them since I had been taught ahead of time that was what I needed to do.
I had no problems...I had been told that the nurses were awful and read many comments on this web site stating that there was one nurse that was particuarlly unpleasant. I found that not to be true. Once I was transferred from PCVC to the regular gastric by-pass unit, I sat on the bed and my nurse said "What you doing on that bed?".....this could have easily been taken as being mean...it WASN'T....it was just the way she was and she wasn't being mean....she was just letting me know that I should sit up for a while. She had a good sense of humor but just because she had a "rough" voice...I can understand why people would mis-read her. All of my nurses were great. They are there to help you. The sooner you get on your feet, the better off you will be. And NO I am not a nurse...but I have worked for years in Customer Service and know how the public reacts too often.
Considering the hospital was at full capacity because of a flu epidemic, I feel the nurses did a wonderful job. I never had any nurses that I considered "grumpy or unpleasant" and I only had one the seemed a little flustered or absent minded, but she was still nice and I was on my third night ( I stayed an extra night because I had diarrhea really bad and my kids were at home with fevers of 102).
I highly recommend St. Mary's to anyone having this surgery and would like to let them know that they will receive top notch care.
