My first impression of Dr. Bolar was that he was professional and courteous. His office staff seems to be kind and caring. I think that he should emphasize aftercare more. He doesn't offer a structured aftercare program, but does have monthly support group meetings at Samaritan Hospital. Dr. Bolar made very clear the risks of the actual operation. However, I didn't realize that many post-op patients (in general) have gallbladder problems, stoma problems, hernias, and ulcers. I think that Dr. Bolar has good beside manner. He is clear and direct when dealing with patients. I really appreciate that. I also feel that he is a competent surgeon.
Dr.Bolar was real helpful, kind, and informative on the whole thing. He was good and answering my questions and concerns.
The staff was really nice, expecially about me calling all the time. LOL - It is just hard to get them to send in all of my information to my insurance company and get to speak with Carol or Amy in insurance on the phone about all of this. That is the only thing that worries me. I have to say thank you Amy Day RN for helping me with insurance and pre-op test and everything. and giving me my surgery date. : ) I will see you all soon.
UPDATE: I have had a few problems after my surgery and Bolar took all the steps in making sure I was ok and trying everything possible to avoid having surgery again. Which I did. But he made sure he done everything to avoid it. He is a great doctor...
This is nothing negative just my personal views on the matter of my info being sent to my insurance on time and correctly. And I am not making any statements on what someone else might experience.
Dr. Bolar is absolutely wonderful. You know that he cares about his patients. He explains every aspect of the procedure, before and after care. His office staff is excellent! He makes sure you are prepared physically and mentally before the surgery. He is always smiling and is confident in his ability. He made me feel as if I had nothing, absolutely nothing to worry about.
I am now 5 months post-op! I have lost 86 lbs! Dr. Bolar is still number one on my list. On surgery day I was the last patient. He appeared to be as bright eyed and energetic as he did first thing that morning. I have had no complications and I thank Dr. Bolar for that. He was excellent in explaining the entire surgery to my family and made sure they were reassured of my well being. He is absolutely the best!!
The first time I saw Dr. Bolar was at the pre-op seminar when I was just in the beginning phase of starting this journey. I met him in person at my first visit, about 6 weeks pre-op. He is a wonderful physician, but also a wonderful man. He's very kind and extremely helpful and considerate of his patients. He never fails to give you all the time you need. Over the past 3 months of knowing him, I feel he's one of the finest doctors I've ever met. I've been in the health care industry working in a hospital x-ray/ultrasound department for 29 years, so I've met a lot of physicians to compare him to and he's really one of the best.
His office staff is extremely helpful. They always take time to talk to you about any problem or concern you have. If they don't know the answer or the person you need to speak to isn't available at the time, they will call you back.
I think any future patients would be very pleased with Dr. Bolar and his staff and his team. My surgery experience was a very positive one. My aftercare has been great also. He went over all the risks/benefits of the surgery at my first visit. He makes sure you are completely aware of what a life-style change you are going in to.
I would rate him as the best surgeon in the US with this surgery. He's done more than 2500 cases and has an excellent success rate.
I believe surgical competence and a good bedside manner are both mandatory.
I think Dr.Bolar and his staff are wonderful and I think he has changed my life greatly his staff are very nice and understanding. during my surgery he was very caring and listened to all my problems and had good and understandable sulotions. he gave me his home number incase of an emergency after the surgery and you don't find that these days he made the whole thing very good.
My first impression of Dr. Bolar and his staff was that they were all very professional, easy to talk too, and very imformative. Every question I had was answered to where I understood EVERYTHING I was getting into. I had researched this surgery for 3 years before I decided that this was the way for me to get back to a healthy lifestyle. I had Lap RNY 12/1/03. My only regret is that I waited so long to have the surgery. Dr. Bolar came highly recommended to me. I am glad that I did my homework and had the best surgeon.
Dr. Bolar was great from day one, He is very open and explained everything, My impression of him never changed I liked him from the first consultation. He has a great knowledge and concern for his patients, and wants only the best. The office staff there is great, from the nurses to the clerk, if ever i have called with questions after postop, and even before, they worked with me and were great, always getting prompt answers to questions or concerns, and also they were great when getting my ins. approved. very quick and after the initial wait of about three to four weeks when the approval came, pre op was one week later and surgery the next week.
In regards to new people going to Dr. Bolar, I did not find anything about him to dislike. And from the first time I met him, and going over everything, I felt like i was in safe and good hands, He explained all the risks involved, and his bedside manner was great very caring and concerned. Overall, I think that he is terrific, my husband was even comfortabel with him and complimented him on how he talked to the family members as well. I did alot of research before the surgery, and had thought of going to a couple of different places to have this done, however, even though they were closer to me, and Dr. Bolar was about 3 hours drive away, he won me over lock stock and barrell, I felt so at ease talking to him, and after the first apt, I was only more excited and ready to have this done. I was at Good Sameritan Hospital in Lexington, and they were terrific as well, you could not ask for a better place to be taken care of. The only negative thing i have to say is that when getting checked in the morning of my surgery, The nurse was upset that there had been an issue with the time i was told to be there, and she got me a little upset but other then that, The nurses in preop, and the anestesiaologist were great and then the nurses in icu after surgery were so sweet and then when i went to my own room they were great as well. Again, Thanks to Dr. Bolar and his staff, I owe you alot, esp. getting my life back,
All I can say is WONDERFUL! FANTASTIC! and EXCELLENT! His personality, bedside manner (so far) knowledge, everything is wonderful, fantastic and excellent. Along with his staff..they are all the above, too.
The only negative thing I have to say was not their fault. I had to wait 3 months to get my consult. Now they are doing seminars to help move the process along quicker for others.
Other than that, they have been wonderful, fanastic, and excellent!
