Dr.Bolar was just wonderful with me.He answered all my questions before and after surgery. He even gave me his home phone to use if I needed him after hours. His office staff was also helpful to me.The aftercare was also descussed.I would rate Dr.Bolar and his staff very highly for all the care they gave me.
I really like Dr. Bolar. He was very thorough with me in my initial exam. I am considered to be on the borderline for the requirements of the surgery. He made me feel that my expectations were normal and ensured me that he would be here to help all of the way through the process. My only concern was that I felt that the office staff were VERY BUSY and that I sometimes in the beginning process did not get return phone calls as I had expected. But my overall impression thus far is that I am in good hands with Dr. Bolar.
I've met him only once-during the initial consult. He strikes me as one who "knows his stuff". He can answer any question with confidence and knowledge. His office staff appears-in a word- "rushed". They're quick to put you on hold, quick to answer questions and concerns as if they're reading from a script- And who knows? Maybe they are! My surgery is next Wednesday, Feb. 9th. My pre-op consult is tomorrow (Feb. 2nd). Guess I'll update ya'll then.
Dr. Bolar is known as one of the best and I really can't agree or disagree. On my first visit to his office I did have a lot of questions for him and he informed me half way through my list that he had other patients waiting. He did answer a lot of my questions but some went unanswered due to scheduling appointments to close together.
I still have no real opionion since I saw him once at his office and once at the hospital the day of the surgery.
I am not impressed to say the least with Dr. Bolars office staff. You should see my long distance phone bills. I have discovered the only way to get a call back is to make sure you call at least twice to remind the receptionist of what you needed. I was told on three occasions that this office had everything they needed to process my papers and forward to my insurance company for approval. And every few days I would check back and they would then tell me they needed one more thing. So the longest process was making sure his office had what they needed to send in my insurance papers. And keep in mind I was the one calling to check so had I not called who knows how long it would of taken the staff to contact me for more information. After surgery I needed papers filled out for my husbands employer and I was told to come in at 1:00 on a Tues. to get them signed and filled out so my husband could have them to turn into his supervisor the next day. Well needless to say no one was available to fill out the papers because they were moving buildings and Dr. Bolar went home for the day. I asked why no one bothered to call me to save me the long trip and the only thing they could say is that they were moving and they didn't have a phone.
As far as after care is concerned I don't have a comment because my surgery was on Dec 15 and I guess due to the holidays I could not get my post op appointment until Jan. 4 so for 20 days I must wait. I had to call his office to see if I could advance to the full liquid diet since I had been on clear liquids for 12 days at this point and the instructions read I should be on that diet for 10 days. It also reads not to advance your diet until talking to your surgeon. No one called me or advised what I should do so I had no choice but to call his office twice before someone would call me back. And at that point I was told to go ahead and start the full liquid diet. But I still can't believe that no one called or instructed me prior since my first post op appointment would not be for 20 days.
All I can say is that I hope his office staff get it together and start communicating with each other to make sure that we as patients get the information we need and the help we deserve.
Dr. Bolar did go over the risks of the surgery with me and he showed me a flip chart of what it looks like internally before and after the surgery. I would say that post op I am doing well so he has done what is required of him as a surgeon so I am greatful for that. These comments are my personal experience. Everyone has their own opionions and experiences so I wish you luck with yours.
I had my first post op visit and Dr. Bolar on Jan. 4 and he was very apologetic for all of the mishaps. He seems to truely care about my feelings and experiences. He actually thanked me for taking the time to let him know what was going on with his staff.
Dr. Bolar was so patient and easy to talk with. I knew he had been over the information on the surgery several thousand or more times and at no point did he rush or make me feel my question or concerns were "dumb" or that the questions were tedious to him. I am post op now and he is the virtue of patience. I could not have asked for more. His staff is very knowledgeable and will do anything within their power to help you. I'm sure we have all at one time for another felt the "old brush off"; not at Dr. Bolar's office. All calls answered promptly and if whomever you are talking to does not have an answer, they will find the answer and call you back when they say they will. That's a biggie in my book. If Amy says she will call late afternoon.... by golly she calls back in later afternoon or maybe sooner if she can get the answer quicker! Dr. Bolar has chosen his staff well and other fine physicans could learn from Dr. Bolar that a great staff is critical. Dr. Bolar and staff are a BIG 10+ on a scale of 1 to 10. I cannot think of one thing I would change or like to see happen in the way of change.
Dr. Bolar was a soft spoken, calm, and appeared to be very perticular about his patients care. My initial impression was correct, his disposition never once has been disappointing. His office staff is GREAT!! They kept me on track with what info. I needed to obtain and completely took care of the insurance aspect, I never had to do anything. The only thing I wish Dr. Bolar would have done was explain more about how painful the surg. actually was, but then again, don't want to scare away the client, so I forgave him. The diet aspect is major concern following surg. I had a lap. so not too much wound care involved, there is a booklet you recieve to take home with almost all the info. you need for the 3-4 weeks post-op care. All of the risk were discussed on the first consultaion visit. I was very pleased with my whole experience with Dr. Bolar and his staff and actually had no complaints.
The first time I met Dr. Bolar,my perception was of a very kind, quiet, gentle man. Over the last 20 months I have learned of his extreme skill and knowledge in his chosen profession. I have, and still do, trust him with my life. His office staff and nurses are the greatest. And like many of Dr. Bolars' other patients will say "I just love him, he's the best"!
