I immediately liked Dr. Bolar and his staff. Everyone was so helpful and encouraging that I feel complete confidence that I'm doing the right thing. Dr. Bolar spent nearly an hour with me explaining everything, down to the last detail. The one thing that really impressed me was his matter-of-fact-frankness. This IS a life changing procedure and it won't be easy, and he made sure that I was completely aware of all the negative aspects of the surgery as well as all the benefits and expectations. He gave me a pamphlet describing the details as well and included a typical "menu" for the first 6 weeks or so after the surgery. At this point, I would highly reccommend him, but will update as I progress.
It was my experience that he was not sympathetic at all.
I learned to overlook the somewhat cold bedside manner because he also seemed to be awfully confident and self assured. He was straightforward and to the point. He was right about everything he told me, down to how to apply for insurance coverage.
The staff was wonderful.
I least liked how he stated quite bluntly that none of his patients had any self control.
Ignore his negative attitude toward morbid obesity, and take advantage of his professionalism.
Yes, but I didn't get the follow up information until after my post op visit.
Yes.
Very seriously.
Overall, he was wonderful. The most important thing to do was to do the surgery well and accurately.
Surgical competence, hands down.
DR. BOLAR WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL, DISCUSSED ALL THE PROCEDURE, WHAT HE EXPECTS FROM HIS PTS, AND TALKED ABOUT HIS SUCCESS WITH THE PROCEDURE. HE DISCUSSED WITH ME THE HOSPITAL STAY, WHAT TO EXPECT WHILE I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL, HOW LONG I SHOULD EXPECT THE STAY TO BE, ECT. HE ALSO DISCUSSED WITH ME THE RISKS, THE AFTERCARE AND THE NEED TO BE ABLE TO FOLLOW ALL THE DIET RESTRICTIONS RIGHT AFTER THE SURGERY. I FOUND IS COMFORTING THAT HE DISCUSSED WITH ME THAT HE HAS HAD NO ONE DIE FROM THE PROCEDURE AND HE DISCUSSED WITH ME THE COMPLICATED PTS HE HAS HAD IN THE PAST. HE HAS BEEN DOING THE PROCEDURE FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS IN MI AND MS WHERE HE LIVED BEFORE MOVING TO KY. HIS STAFF WERE HELPFUL AND PROFESSIONAL AND WELL.
