Dr. Bolar and his staff are very warm and helpful. He is a brilliant surgeon and is very compassionate. He explained the procedure and took his time with me and all of my questions. He even agreed to talk to me and my husband before the surgery. My husband needed reassurance. He is also forming a support group. He explained all the risks of the surgery and I rank him a 10 on a scale of 1-10. I also went to a seminar in Louisville before I met Dr. Bolar and the L'ville surgeon just does not comapre with the surgical competence and the bedside manner of Dr. Bolar. Surgery is scheduled on Wed., Feb., 28, 2001. I will update the information on Dr. Bolar after the procedure.
02/13/01 I have an appointment this Friday Feb
16, 2001 at Dr. Bolar's office. I am very nervous about
this appointment. I am excited and scared. To think that I
could do sometyhing to change my life so much.
I have spoken to Amy in the office and she has been
very nice and helpful. I will post again after
my visit.
I had my first visit with Dr. Bolar on Friday He was
wonderful. He sat down with me and explained
the procedure and gave me the good and the bad.
you could tell that he really cares about his patients.
His office staff is very helpful. Both Amy and
Katherine are very helpfu. I am going to have
to fight with the Insurance company and they
are willing to help. I will keep you posted on
how things are going.
I really like Dr. Bolar, and I am impressed with his 10 years of experience doing this surgery. He's very honest about what to expect, and he emphasizes that surgery is a weight loss tool, not a miracle (I know it's not magic, but it's a miracle opportunity for me). He's willing to fight the insurance if necessary, which is something no other Dr in KY wanted to bother with. And Dr. Bolar's assistant, Catherine, is great. She's a real doll, and she makes the whole process easier and less intimidating. The only thing I'm not sure about right now is how comprehensive his aftercare program is--- I forgot to ask.
I renew my original assessment and believe this man and his staff have been sent to me by God above. He was not the first surgeon I talked to, but I'm glad the others showed little interest in me, because it led me to Dr. Bolar. I can sense that I am in good hands.
Dr Bolar is the GREATEST !!! He is one of the most considerate doctors I've ever met. He takes the time to talk with you and answer any and all questions. He is very thorough in explaining his procedure to you and what is to be expected. He has a bedside manner that is by far the BEST I've ever experienced from a doctor. There is just NOTHING NEGATIVE to say about Dr Bolar.
His office staff is also the GREATEST !!! Catherine is very helpful, kind, sweet, and just TERRIFIC. She goes the extra mile for you and makes you feel like you are the only patient she has to deal with all day, as does Dr Bolar. She contacts the insurance company for you and deals with them, thank goodness. She is always smiling and helpful with answering your questions.
Amy is also WONDERFUL. She is always kind, polite and very helpful.
If you are considering gastric bypass this is the Doctor and staff that you want taking care of you. They rate a 100 on a scale of 1-10. My experience with these people have went above and beyond what I ever expected from my health care providers.
Jan. 4th 2001, Met with Dr. Bolar for the first time. He went through the surgery process step by step with me and answered every single question that I had. He was absolutely wonderful and very caring. Also spoke with Catherine and she is setting up appts for me to have my pre-op tests done including the psych evaluation. Supposed to learn when these appointments are tomorrow January 10th 2001. After those are done, she explained that she will then submit a letter to my insurance company (Bluegrass Family Health) in order to get the surgery approved.
I think Dr. Bolar is great. He went over everything with me, and answered all my questions. His office staff has been helpfull, exspecially Catherin. Dr. Bolar also has a good after care program. I liked how fast everything went, I had all me pre test done in one day. Then Catherin submitted everything to the Insurance company, they denied me then she submitted everything again, and they approved it the same day, a week later I had surgery. Dr. Bolar is great, he came to see me twice a day when I was in the Hospital, he went over everything with me, he even said to call him at home if I have any questions, now how many Dr.s do that. I have referred a couple of my friends to him, one will be having surgery January, 2.
First I want to say that my appt. is set for next week and I am really looking forward to meeting Dr. Bolar. It just so happens to be that Catherine, his patient consultant is from the same area that I am and that makes it seem even better. I've read only rave reviews about Dr. Bolar and his staff. I hope they live up to their reputation and can help me. I'll let you know next Monday!!
I met with Dr. Bolar yesterday. He said he felt I was a good candidate for surgery.
He was very likeable and I would feel very
safe with him doing my surgery. I have decided that this may
finally be my chance to feel and look better and hopefully a longer life.
I am really kind of down tho as Catherine,
the girl who does the ins. filing, was not too hopeful at all
that my insurance will pay. I have an hmo here in Ky. and they are pretty
bad about paying for things like this. I will
probably have to go the legal route and to what extent and expense ? I don't have
the sleep apnea, diabetes, or hight blood pressure that usually convinces the ins. company.
Never mind that my job is being affected by my wt. and many
other aspects of my life that would take too long to go into here. You all understand I'm sure.
If anyone has any advice about the legal part so this ins. thing, please email me. I enjoy reading about all your successes!
I met with Dr. Bolar yesterday. Is if a very kind and caring man who put everything out in black and white. He told me up front that he would not do this surgery unless it was necessary.
His office staff is wonderful. Very caring.
*update* 8/2/00--- just got my surgeyr date...they have done everything for me..What a wonderful Dr. and office!!!
*UPATE* 8/27/00----Surgery is over and Im at home....doing well I think. Dr. Bolar ir a most caring Doctor. I am so thankful that he's my surgeon!!!
*UPDATE* 11/8/00--- Lord, it's been a while since I've been here.I have lost 55 pounds as of today !!!! Can you believe that . This is the best decision that I have ever made for myself. If I have a problem all I have to do is email Dr. Bolar and he emails me right back....can you believe that I don't even have to make a long distance call. If anyone is thinking about Dr. Bolar think no more ..hes the man for the job as is the hospital ...a very nice little hospital with very nice nurses and staff.
I met Dr. Randall Bolar in Georgetown, Kentucky today. He is everything I heard he would be. We sat one on one and talked for close to an hour, he answered all my questions, including all those regarding my previous JIB and takedown, addressed all my fears, and discussed risks involved. I made the decision right then and there to go with the RNY and Dr. Bolar. He introduced me to Catherine, his patient consultant and after I spent a few minutes with her, I felt like I had known her forever. I had all my diet history, co-morbs, psych eval.,and everything all together and she said "why don't we just give your insurance a call right now and see what they say". Well, folks I'm here to say in less than 20 minutes I WAS APPROVED and I have a SURGERY DATE of October 31, 2000. I am so happy, I will tell my employer tomorrow. I want to say thanks to all you wonderful people here at AMOS for all your support, love, and well wishes. You are all my life line and I always keep you all in my prayers. Please keep remembering me as I will need all your prayers. I believe prayer is powerful! God bless you all.
