I know that this says everyone can't be 100% because that is not realistic. I have to tell you I believe that Dr. Bolar and his staff are as close as you can get. These people treated me as if I was the only patient they had. Any time I had a question or concern they were there. Dr Bolar has a wonderful bedside manner. He pulls no punches about what kind of risk you are taking with this surgery and he takes no risk with your health. If you are not ready he will not do it until you are. I have found this to be a wonderful experience.
My first impression of Dr. Bolar was of a caring kind doctor. I still have that same impression. The office staff was very helpful and patient. Dr. Bolar is easy to talk with and takes all the time the patient needs. The risks of the surgery were addressed, but I felt the benefits far outweighed the risks. He really stressed letting the body heal before attempting to do too much. He stresses going about the business of living, and not thinking so much about the operation.
I had my first visit with Dr. Bolar today. He was extremely nice and helpful. I was there about an hour and he answered every question I had and some I didn't even think of! Catherine was also great...she will be taking care of all the insurance matters. She was also very friendly and helpful. At this point, I would suggest Dr. Bolar to anyone who is looking. I won't have the actual surgery for a while (assuming I am approved), but will update more when I do.
My husband and I met with Dr. Boler and I was very impressed. He took the time to explain everything to me and told me not to get discouraged about gaining all of my weight back since the 1981 surgery. I had the scope test run and it showed that the surgery in 1981 looked like it had never taken place. Kathryn, the receptionist in his office is the sweetest person and she really takes the extra step to make to feel at ease. She will be the one to contact insurance and set everything up. Dr. Boler explained all risks, aftercare, etc...
OH MY GOSH --- This man is FABULOUS!!! He is so super great - I would definately recommend him to my own mother if she ever needed this surgery. He explains everything from A to Z - even if you know all about B-K. =) He tells you the risks - but he has done over 1100 of these surgeries and has never had anyone die due to complications with the surgery. His office staff is super nice, and you can tell they are on your side. You'll mainly work with Catherine, but Amy is there to help also. But in my book --- definately an A+!!!
I first met Dr. Bolar at an appt. with my mother...liked him from the first moment. Very nice and doesn't rush you, encourages questions. Catherine is very nice and full of helpful suggestions.
He has performed the surgery over 1100 times, describes the risks involved veri in depth.
Office is very nice, roomy furniture, pleasant enviroment.
There is not a structured aftercare program that I am aware of, yet.
I was very pleased with my experience.

I spoke with Catherine today, I'm approved!!! Pre-op tests are scheduled for 4/9 and surgery is 4/13. Have no time to get nervous!!
HE WAS SO NICE. HE EXPLAINED EVERYTHING ABOUT THE SURGERY TO ME. HE TOLD ME HOW DANGEROUS IT COULD BE. HE TOLD ME ABOUT HOW IT WOULD CHANGE MY LIFE AND MAKE MY HEALTH SO MUCH BETTER. HE IS A VERY WONDERFUL DOCTOR AS WELL AS A PERSON. AND HIS ASSISTANT KATHERINE IS THE SWEETEST PERSON I HAVE EVER TALKED TO. SHE HAS ARRANGED EVERYTHING FOR ME.
Dr. Bolar seemed to be a very nice man. He explained very carefully and slowly the procedure and even drew a picture so that I could understand the procedure better. He did not rush the visit nor did he make me feel like a failure. Amy & Catherine, in his office, were so nice and helpful. He advised me of the risks. Dr. Bolar made it very clear that this is not a cure, but a tool. I left his office very excited and hoped that I would be approved for the surgery and knew that I would be in good hands. I would recommend Dr. Bolar to anyone looking for a compassionate surgeon and staff.
Dr. Bolar is a wonderful man. He explained very carefully and slowly the procedure and even drew a picture so that I could point & ask questions along the way. He did not rush the visit nor did he make me feel like a diet failure. Amy & Catherine, in his office, were so nice & helpful.
Dr. Bolar provided me with a booklet that explained the type of meals that I will be eating at each step and explained the procedure in detail. He advised me of the risks involved & reassured me of his talent. I have a good sense of humor and almost got him to crack a smile...he takes this business VERY seriously, as should I. Dr.Bolar made it very clear that this is not a cure, but a tool.
I left his office very excited and hoped that I would be approved for the surgery and knew that I would be in good hands. I would recommend Dr bolar to anyone looking for a compassionate surgeon & staff...they truly care.
My first impression of Dr Bolar was he spoke my language and not talked over my head. Yes, I had already done research on top of research but he said that he wanted me to act like I didn't know anything and he went thru it all again. The day I went in for my consultation, Catherine (his right arm) wasn't in so I delt with Amy. I knew that the office was not ran as it usually is because Catherine wasn't there and just about any office has certain people that take care of certain things and it makes everything run more smoothly. Dr Bolar and Amy had commented at my consultation that I have everything I needed and wished that everyone was as prepaired (past medial records, recent blood work, letter to my insurance and my insurance exclusions list)but it still took 7 days for my package to get sent off. So, as far as Dr Bolar, I only hope that I can have this surgery and with out a doubt he will be my surgeon. I can't stress enough how nice he is and very professional. 2-16/Today Catherine called and said that Bobbie needs more info about my previous diet attempts and asked me to get it to her on Monday ( I am guessing that Bobbie still hasn't sent my info to the insurance company-isn't that just dandy!). Well, I called my insurance again today and they still don't show that I am requesting surgery-so...now we know Bobbie hasn't sent my packet to the insurance! 2-17/ Sitting down and trying to remember all of the diets I have been on. Came up with 14 medically supervised programs and don't even know where to start on the ones that I've done on my own. Wonder if it is better to have a lot of diet attempts or if the insurance will look at it and say that this person doesn't stick to any diet so the surgery won't work either.2-19/Well, I faxed the diet info to Catherine today and asked her to fax it to Bobbie-she said that DrB's fax didn't send info very well (looks like he could afford a better fax- LOL) so I asked her to give me Bobbies fax# and I would send it-I did. Today makes 3 weeks since I first seen DrB and I am almost sure that my info still hasn't been sent to the insurance company ( or atleast the insurance company is saying they haven't receieved anything). I thought that Bobbie was suppose to make the process go smoother and faster. I could handle my insurance taking 6 weeks to make up their mind (I would have been half way there) but it is hard to swallow that my doctors office is taking almost that long to sent my info. My mom says "You didn't gain all of this weight over night so what is the big deal in waiting for a while to get approved?"-(Sometimes it feels like I gained it all over night but then again I can remember all of the years of suffering, trying with no luck to get the weight off). Most people think that one more day is no big deal but it is when all of your days are miserable & could be your last.2-20/Dr. Bolar emailed me today, reassuring me that he will make sure that every thing will be taken care of soon. He told me of the recent change to RightWeigh and that things have been hectic around the office with training and Catherine being off for a while but things are hopefully better now. I never lost faith in DrB but it was his office staff that I was worried about BUT maybe now all the kinks are worked out. NOW, some good news...Bobbie called me today to let me know that she has sent my info to the insurance so, I feel better (but I will stay on top of my insurance to make sure they don't forget about me).
