Dr. Randall Bolar is my surgeon and I have only saw him for the initial visit so far.
I found him and his office assts to be extremely informational and pleasant. The visit was more rushed than what I had heard because he had an emergency surgery (nothing to do with a weight loss surgery). But overall he could answer any questions I had. The staff (Catherine specifically). Is more than ready to handle insurance questions for you. They have protocols to follow before surgery is scheduled. You have to have labs done and see a psycologist pre-op. The one they refer you to (due to sructured answers needed to give to insurance requirements). I'm sure as this process advances, I will be able to enlighten you more on him and his staff. at this time I would rate them a 9. I'm sure you can't go wrong with this Dr. I'll keep you posted.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Gower

I must admit that I was not happy about going to Dr. Bolar at first because my insurance company denied me for surgery with the physiciun that I requested. They required me to go for a consult with Dr Bolar because he was "in network".
However, after meeting with Dr. Bolar and his staff I was very pleased, and felt that they would do everything possible to make my surgery a success. He was very thorough and made sure that I understood the risks as well as the benifits. He firmly states that you must follow better eating habits after surgery. His booklet gives a diet to follow after surgery. I will wait to rate Dr. Bolar until after my surgery.
Well, I am having the open RNY on Tuesday, August 8th. I am getting a little nervous. I will post later.
8/23 Well, I am 2 weeks post-op and doing great! Dr. Bolar did my surgery in about 1 hour. He has been very attentive and answered any and all questions I have given him either in person or by e-mail. I have lost about 25 lbs so far (yeah!!).
I will post more later.
Dr. Bolar was very professional in his approach to the surgery. He went over the procedure from start to finish and answered all questions. The office staff was good and always there to answer questions.
His aftercare program is good with check ups at 10 day intervals moving up to every 3 months then to yearly thereafter.
I have my first appt. with Dr. Bolar Friday July 28th....don't know much about him yet besides what I've read He has came highly recomended. Will let you know more after I met him...well, I met with Dr. Bolar and I have to say he's fantastic....From the moment I walked into his office i immediately felt comfortable and at home. His office staff are very considerate and helpful. Dr. Bolar himself has a great sense of humor and seemed to genuinely care about his patients and this disease that we have. He let me know up front what the risks were(of course i had already researched this thing to death so i basically knew). He discussed in full his aftercare program and how you must follow this exactly how he tells you to. I know we are supposed to list anything negative about him......but honestly there really isn't anything negative, unless I learn something later at our other visits. If I had to choose what I liked best in a physician......it would be surgical competence, but I'm blessed to have a Dr. who has all the qualities people look for.
Had my first appointment with Dr. Bolar. I liked him alot and he eased my nervousness. i am anxiously awaiting approval with United Health Care. His office assistant Katherine is sooooo sweet and easy to talk with. I'm looking forward to my next office visit. I had read everything that i could get my hands on about this procedure but Dr. Bolar insisted that he go over the whole procedure with me again so that i wouldn't have any questions. he is very thorough and the patients in his office had very positive comments about Dr. Bolar
He was very kind and interested in helping me
It remained the same, I was very happy with
everything.
Very helpful and kind.
Nothing, I was so happy with everything.
He has a great success rate and he has done
very well.
Unfortunately he moved out of the state and
follow up care given by another physician.
I am unsure.
Very informative, straight forward.
Great!!!!!
Both are great, I was out of the hospital in
2 days, recovered quickly, especially by
following his directions.
I liked Dr Bolar right from the start. He is very firm in what he expects from u after surgery. His office staff are very pleasant. Dr Bolar let me know up front that there r risks assocaited with the gastric bypass surgery. Dr Bolar has a very structured aftercare program that he expects u to follow to the t. Dr Bolar is a very competent surgeon & I would recommed him highly to anyone that is considering gastric bypass surgery.
My first impression of Dr. Bolar was that this was a surgeon who would be there for you in any situation. How did I know that? He was well aware that I had researched this surgery for months, and yet he took 45 minutes to go over every aspect of this surgery, exactly what he would be doing and why, what I could reasonably expect from the surgery (as well as what I could not expect), and went over in detail the risks and benefits of the surgery. He could easily have said, "Well, I see you know all about this surgery" and saved himself the time. But he wanted to be absolutely sure that I fully understood every aspect of this surgery. He did this in a very professional, compassionate way. He never made me feel bad about being overweight, as many other doctors have in the past. I really appreciated his frankness and honesty. His office staff is also very professional and helpful. Every question was attended to immediately, and the office manager handled the insurance approval very efficiently. Dr. Bolar has an excellent aftercare program,
and he provided me with a booklet full of information, along with a detailed listing of the diet I would be following following surgery.
I would recommend Dr. Bolar to anyone, and have, in fact. I am now two weeks post-op, and Dr. Bolar has personally called to check on me. Not only have I found him to be a supremely competent surgeon, but he also has a very caring and compassionate bedside
manner, which was a bonus in my opinion. I have not met many surgeons who have that.
I realize that we are suposed to also list our least favorite thing about our surgeon, but so far I have not been able to find one. My experience so far has been exceptional.
