Dr. Kurian is a very bold woman who gets right to the point. She put me on the scale and asked me what I weighed at 18 years of age and then she asked me what happened? I was surprised, but liked her directness. My visit with her was 10 minutes and she asked me to choose the operation I wanted and pick a date. I couldn't believe how easy it was going to be to start a whole new life.
Dr. Kurian was very thorough in her detailed description of the Gastric Bypass and she gave specifice aftercare instructions to follow. She had an excellent bedside manner.
I would rate Dr. Kurian as the top surgeon for WLS in New York.
Both surgical competence and bedside manner are extremely important, especially with this operation. Your entire life changes as soon as you wake up in recovery.
My first impression of Dr. Kurian: Beautiful, hip, cool and funny New Yorker. As she discussed the procedure during the group interview, she answered all our questions clearly. I immediately felt at ease. There is nothing I dislike about Dr. Kurian.
Later on I had a problem with my psychologist. She was referred to me by the office. The letter the psychologist sent to the insurance company caused the delay in approval. My personal impression was that she probably wanted more visits. I went to a psychiatrist instead. Approval was immediate.
She was incredibly knowledgable and made me feel very comfortable. However, the office is small and there was a lot of people there so we were all a little rushed.
She led a hour review of the surgery, it benefits, risks , etc. which was great. It was more like bariatric surgery 101.
I haven't had the surgery yet so there's not much more I can say.
great! felt confident in her.
My impression hasn't changed
Love the staff, great support!
Can't say what I least like cause so far so good.
Make sure this is what you want. By the time you get to this level, they make it happen!
After care is everything. Follow diet. EXERCISE!!
Extreme honesty about the risks.
I hate rating systems, I have heard great things and when we met I felt confident.
I'll let you know about competence after my surgury.
Dr. Kurian immediately put me at ease when I first met her. She greeted me with a warm small and held my handshake longer than normal when was somehow comforting. I’ve only see her twice, once during my initial consultation and then again during a Support Group session she hosts. Seeing her interact with per and post-operative patients just reinforced that I had made the right choice in a surgeon.
Dr. Kurian’s office staff (Almira in particular since she’s the only one I’ve dealt with) has been amazing. Again, someone who puts me at great ease. She did all my paperwork for Oxford and has answered umpteen questions, which I’m sure she’s had to answer over and over.
Aftercare is very import to Dr. Kurian as she hosts a monthly Support Group. The group was very medically driven. Talking about healthy choices and not so much how to bet the program, for lack of a better phrase.
As we talked about surgery she was very supportive in that, although I weight 330 lbs, I luckily carry the weight well (if that is such a thing). So much so, several people in her office thought I had already had the surgery. I immediately began to question if this was the right choice for me. What right did I have to choose this route when other’s in her office were visibly obese. I answered the question before I got to see her, that I had every right to be there because my weight problem was affecting MY life, MY health and MY ability to do everyday activities. I mentioned this to her once I met her and said there are no compassions in this office. That this one-on-one relationship is between me, myself and I and if whatever has happened in my life thus far that has brought me to this point and time where I have chosen this route than it is something I deserve!
Like I said, I’ve only met Dr. Kurian twice, but right now she rates very high. I feel very confident about her being my surgeon. I’m really not worried about the surgery at all, just the aftermath.
I had done a lot of research and I decided to use Dr Kurian as my surgeon.
She is Simply the best!
Her office is very busy and a lot going on. Her office staff is wonderful, and very patient! The office is e-z to get to if you’re in north jersey. I would have gotten a 2-week date if I had had all the Insurance taken care of.
Dr. Kurian was an excellent surgeon. She was friendly and really cares about her patients. Her office staff was amazing and really supportive. For some one as young as myself (17) I felt comfortable and in good hands with her and her staff. She caters to the needs of every patient and explains all the details of surgery by answering any question. Her office offers a great support group that meets once a month and a fitness group as well. Dr. Kurian combines surgical competence with excellent beside manner and is an ideal surgeon for anyone looking into weight loss surgery.
