Dr.Kurian is an expert in the Laproscopic Gastric Bypass....(I just saw her with her partner on the Discovery Health Channel doing a Gastric Bypass!)....I met her in Oct. 2002 for a consultation for a Gastric Bypass...I was at my last straw & so in need of help...A friend of mine in the medical field gave me her name & said she was THE BEST......Now almost 2 years post-op I have to agree..(I found out later that she performed surgery on Al Roker) My first impression of her was that she was a caring physician...she listened & was very sensitive to my needs & feelings..Since she deals mostly with obesity, she has a clear understanding of the situation I was in & I always felt safe & comfortable in her care..I felt totally at ease with her...& still do! I was fully instructed on pre-op & post-op care...pros...cons...the rest of my life care...vitamins...protein needs..etc...Her staff is caring & friendly & have a great deal of knowledge...they handled all the insurance swiftly & I was approved quickly..when all my pre-op testing was completed, my surgery was scheduled quickly. I highly recommend her...caring..professional...an expert in her specialty...very giving with her time & knowledge..never rushing or half listening...totally dedicated to her patients...I thank her for everything! I have absolutely no negative comments about her or her staff & feel very comfortable recommending her to others...(I had surgery 3/3/03 & have lost a total of 143 lbs!)..
Dr.Kurian is the bomb!!! She is so down to earth and makes you feel comfortable right away, but at the same time she doesn't sugar coat anything, she lays down the risks, the highs and lows. She lets you know that you will be working your butt off for a long time. I thought she was a wonderful person and very knowledgable.
Dr. Kurian is wonderful, has a great sense of humor! She's very personable, down to earth and makes an effort to relate to her patients. She is an expert in weight loss surgery. Matter of fact, WLS is 95% of her practice. Dr. Kurian is one of the absolute very best in New York. She's candid about the surgery, the risk, the aftercare expectations and weight loss results.
I could tell from talking with her that she cares about her patients and enjoys her work. She very frank regarding the sincere efforts she expects from her patients.
Like she said to me she gives you the jump start and the coaching but the "real work" is for you to do. So, if you have been looking for a top WLS surgeon there's no need to look any further.
I can not say enough about how wonderful my surgeon was and continues to be. Not only did she calm my nerves going into surgery, but she continues to be an amazing source of strength, kindness and support. Her staff is both supportive and kind even though they are swamped since they work for the best surgeon in the world and good news travels fast. She has the best bedside manner in the world! I highly recommend her to anyone thinking of this surgery!
I can not begin to give enough of accolades or kudos to Dr. Kurian . From our first meeting in her office, she showed her professioanlism, depth of knowledege, and absolute caring for me as her patient, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritualy. It took me more than three years to find a doctor I felt secure enough with to trust with my life, and with Dr. Kurian I found that security.
Dr. Kurian has also been written up as one of the top doctors in NYC.
Dr. Kurians office staff is as exceptional as she is. They are responsive to the needs of the patients. They were exceptional in getting insurance approval. And ALWAYS returned phone calls, and answered questions in a very short time span. I was so happy with Dr. Kurians staff.
The nursing staff at Lenox Hill Hospital is the ideal complement to surgery by Dr. Kurian. The nursing staff maintains constant contact with Dr. Kurian on the recoperation of each patient. The nursing staff truely embodied all the excepleatry characteristics of nursing care.
In NYC it is easy to find yourself being treated as another person in a long line of patience, HOWEVER, Dr. Kurian, and the Lenox Hill staff proved to me that they recognized me as an individual, and treated me with all the respect that anyone could give to another person.
Dr. Kurian savved my life. Although, she tells me all the time that I did it. But, without her candor and expertise, I would probably still be seriously obese today. She is very direct and honest. She very clearly explains the risks involed with all procedures and will give her adivse as to which procedure may work best for you, but the deccision is yours to make. Don't look to Dr. Kurian if you are lookign for a real soft, touchy feelie type. She is a pro, in every sense of the word.
Al Roker is also a graduate of the Dr. kurian school of gastric bypass. She is the bencchmark in the industry as far as I am concerned, and I would defend that comment to anyone, anywhere.
Both Dr. Kurian, her team of surgeons, therapists, and nutritionists, have helped change my whole outlook on food, and eating.
I rate Dr. Kurian an 11 on a scale of 1-10.
Dr. Kurian is great. She keeps it "REAL" and is very "down to earth". Her office and staff are professional yet friendly like a neighbor. Dr. Kurian explains all the procedures available and their risks, the consequences of each, before and aftercare and conducts her initial meetings as a group which was great for me because I got to meet others in the same boat and shared info. That was really great!!!!
The thing I liked least is that you don't get more personal time with the surgeon prior to surgery. But, I guess time is so precious and there just aren't enough hours in the day.
I would rate her at the top of the list to anyone.
I think in this situation, that surgical competence is oh so important but bedside manner is also handy.
Good luck all and to me too!!!
