My first impression of Dr. Kurian was that she was INCREDIBLY competent, caring and had a sense of humor, something that I found missing in other medical personnel. Her practice is geared toward making you feel comfortable, not pressured in any way, not embarrassed in any way, and her staff are very professional and extrememly accommodating and nearly impossibly helpful. I am an incredibly critical person, and actually left my original surgeon in upstate NY because his staff was nasty, but I can assuredly say that there was no part of this experience with this doctor, surgical group, staff, follow up care or billing that was negative. I would send my sister and best friends to Dr. K is they were having WLS. Dr. K is a gifted surgeon, and a very nice person overall.
My first impression of Dr. Kurian was wow this women dont play. She is straight and direct and right to the point. Dr. Kurian staff have been amazing from the start they have helped me with everything. I did not have to worry about nothing. The staff members are very compassionate especially Susan, she has been awesome and very supportive. Susan "I love you girl". I can not say that there was anything that I didnt like about Dr Kurian. Dr Kurian is doing amazing work in the obesity field I would recommend her to all of my friends and to anyone who is thinking of doing the surgery. Dr Kurian emphasize aftercare and she has a structured aftercare program. Dr. Kurian did address the risks of surgery. I would rate Dr Kurian overall with a 10+++. I feel that surgical competence and a bedside manner are both important.
I know that everyone says this about Dr Kurian......but let me tell ya she is the best!
I am really a scary cat when it comes to pain but she held my hand with kindness every step of the way!!!!!
She will be in my prays of thanks for the rest of my "skinny" life!
I know this site wants to "balance" out the reveiws......but the truth be told...Dr Kurina and the staff at Lenox Hill were really great. I had a privite room and everyone on my floor was having some sort of Bariatric procedure. The nursing staff seemed to be devoted to kindness torward people who just went thru Surgery...!!!
Dr.Kurian is a very nice caring woman. She is very intelligent and helpful. she looks like she has it all together. Dr. Kurian was upfront and honest about everything. The staff is sooooo helpful. I can't tell how many times I called and they were helpful to me. They called me if they were missing something and everything was done that day!
My first impression of Dr. Kurian was that she was honest, open, intelligent and well versed in the field of bariatric surgery, and friendly. Time set these first impressions in stone-she is all of those, and warms up to you even more as you get to know her more. The office staff is fairly business oriented, while they do not seem as compassionate as the Surgeons in the office, they get the job done and are fairly friendly along the way. Dr. Kurian is an amazing woman, and having dealt with a lot of doctors for multiple surgerys and hospital stays in my life (non-related to obesity) she is the friendliest and most compassionate-I can honestly say she cares about her patients more then any other medical professional I have ever dealt with. When I go to the office I feel like I'm going to visit a friend. She emphasizes after care enough to let her patients know that it is important. She definitely addressed risks of the surgery, and at the time of my initial interview I was 21 years old, so we talked about being young and the lifetime of aftercare that IU would have. I was well informed prior to my surgery. I honestly don't know how comfortable I would have felt having the surgery with anyone else, I knew that I was in good hands with Dr. Kurian.
I had my surgery with Dr. Kurian on May 24th, 2005. She is one of those very rare individuals who speaks to you as though she has known you since grade school. Her warmth and caring is exemplary, especially for a surgeon! Even in the operating room she made sure to extend herself and reassure. The Grateful Dead music that she had playing in the background certainly contributed to helping calm me. What can I say except that I hope all of you wind up in such capable hands.
She is a great surgeon; very warm and inquiring. Even though I had had three previous abdominal operations, she was able to do my procedure laparascopically. The staff is large, well-trained and amenable, though sometimes a little too business-like.
She has a nutritionist and psychologist on staff who run group meetings in her office. Hours are not as great for those of us who work. She spoke to me personally as well as addressing the group of potential patients together when we first came in to address questions and offer information.
So far, aftercare is very good. I am only a week post-op so I will keep monitoring.
I would recommend her to anyone. She's great; probably expensive, considering that this is New York and she was also Al Roker's surgeon.
I have only met with Dr. Kurian once and it was a completely positive experience. She was very helpful and supportive. I am really looking forward to my surgery with her on June 3rd. She talked about all the risks involved with the surgery, the risks of not having surgery and the types that are available to me. I have opted for the Lapp-Band procedure
During the initial consultation, which took over 2 hours, I met with several members of her staff. Most were very helpful, one was a bit impatient.
