I went to the seminar that is required before you can scehdule your first appointment. That was very informative. However, I have researched very much so I knew most everything that he was telling. Dr. Miles is a very energetic surgeon. He believes in what he is doing. His office is just great. Very helpful, friendly and caring. He addresses the risk very strongly during the seminar and also during the office visit. I would rate Dr. Miles on a scale from 1-10 a 10.
I found no fault with him. But of course he is human and isn't perfect but he is close to it. And as always competence goes hand in hand with bedside manner. But Dr. Miles is a caring physician. SO he get's 2 thumbs up!
I only met Dr. Miles at his seminar on 7/220/02. I found him to be capable, well liked and respected by a lot of his former patients and he was in no rush to leave, he answered all of the questions that we had. He seemed to be a caring man and most important to me, he is a religious man. I feel that I will be in good hands with him, because Jesus will be standing beside him all of the way. Well I finally got to meet Dr. Miles at his office, and he is a very nice guy. I felt comfortable with him and I felt at peace. I believe that I am in good hands and that he will do his best by me.
Dr.Miles was fantastic. He was so supportive from the first time I saw him. His office staff was very friendly. He and his staff are very supportive in your decision. They will talk/discuss all your questions.Dr.Miles is very forward about the surgery and the aftercare a patient must use.He wants you to follow his post-op and take it seriously. He lets you know up front the risks of wls.He takes all the time you need to talk with you.He lets you know everything. He is a very supportive and caring doctor.Just wish there were more like him.I give him an A plus.
While in the hospital after my surgery, Dr.Miles went out of town for the w/end. He called everyday (Fri.,Sat.and Sun.)to check on me and then made a trip in to see me Sunday night. I rate him EXCEPTIONAL.
Medical Center East has an incredibly impressive weight loss surgery program. It employs a full time Bariatric Weight Loss Coordinator, and is under the direction of the Director of Surgical Services.
Denene Cofield is the Program Director, Rona Scott is the weight loss coordinator, and Dr. Les Miles is the weight loss surgeon.
The program is designed to be what I refer to as a "full service" program. It meets the needs of the patient beginning pre-op, or even pre-wls decision. Rona is so very well informed and educated about the in's and out's of wls, is a proverbial walking book of knowledge, and as a recipient of gastric bypass, is not just one of those skinny cheerleaders that we have all encountered in our various "diet center like programs"
Denene and Dr. Miles have been incredible in nuturing and developing their vision along with Rona for what this program can be and achieve. The heart for this is obvious.
There are support groups, educational seminars, pre and post and much much more.
If I was to say something special about Dr. Miles I would say two things. One, he is brilliant, and not too arrogant to learn and learn. He uses seizes every experience as an opportunity and tool for learning. He is able to take his ego out of the picture and do what is in the best interest of his patient. Two, I did not know Dr. Miles prior to his doing wls, but, the Dr. I know today, has a true heart for his obese patients. He cares about us, wants our success, wants so much more than just a successful non-complicated surgical procedure, he wants us to achieve our hearts desire which is goal weight and indefinate maintenance. He emphasizes aftercare, diet, compliance, piece by piece addressed the risks associated with the procedure in an extensive informative seminar and then again in a one on one office visit. It troubles him to witness the way our compulsive overeatng habits affect us even during and post weight loss.
Universally , that special heart for wls patients is easy to feel at MCE among the three primary people mentioned who run the show.
As far as the last question, I rate his surgical competence and beside manner as outstanding in both areas.
My first impression was how nice and considerate he was with me. He had on his scrubs that day and was very busy. I will meet with him again on Monday, July 8, 2002. The staff are excellent! I only really met Deborah and she was terrific even though they were kinda slow about trying to set up my surgery date. Telling me she would call be back at a certain time and never did but I stayed on them till the both of us got together and got a Surgery Date. I don't really know forsure if there is anything I don't like cause have not really been around him that much to know that answer. Well, my doctor changed from Dr. Lee Schmitt to Dr. Les Miles.
I was a bit nervous going into this. I was afraid of the questions he would ask me...and maybe afraid that he might decide for some reason that he didn't want to do the surgery. Dr. Miles was so nice. He asked me if I was aware of things that could go wrong...of course I am. I don't decide to have surgery unless I know the risks involved. He let me ask all the questions that I could think of and he made me feel like he was genuinely concerned. That is a big plus with me...a doctor that is there on your time, not his! I think he is going to have a great bedside manner. I am looking forward to this!
The office staff was nice especially Debra, the insurance clerk. She was so funny and seemed to care about me...the patient. She has so many things to do and still takes time to make you feel like you are the only person she has had to deal with that day! she has an EXCELLENT attitude!
My first impression of Dr. Miles was formed during a seminar that he requires you to go to before you can schedule your first visit. He was there but he did not say much until the end when he descibed the surgery and answered a ton of questions. He was very patient, but I got the impression that he was really dry and down to business. I am more comfortable around a more personable person, but I knew he was a good doctor because he had done a procedure on a relative of mine. My opinion changed drastically on my first appt. I could hear him coming down to my room before he ever got there because everyone in the office was yelling hi to him and he was saying hi back. He was one of the most friendly and congenial doctors I have ever met! He came in my room and slapped me on the arm with my chart and just plopped down in a chair and told me how tired he was! He talked to me and told me what to expect and answered all my questions and was completely easy to be around. He appeared to be in no hurry to rush off to the next patient and that really means something. He made me feel like more than just another surgery. He staff is friendly and supportive as well. In the seminar he really stressed the risks of surgery and did not beat around the bush about anything. He was honest and up front. I don't know much about his aftercare because I have not had the surgery yet, but I assume since he is so strict about things being done before surgery that it would be the same after. I really like him a lot and would recommend him to anyone.
I FIRST MEET DR.MILES AT THE SIMINAR AT MCE. AT MY OFFICAL CONSULATION I WAS REALLY SUPRISED AT THE TIME HE TOOK WITH ME AND MY WIFE TO ANSWER AND EXPLAIN EVEYTHING. AFTER HEARING MY MEDICAL HISTORY AND DETERMINING WHAT TEST I SHOULD HAVE ,HE ALLOWED ME TO DO MOST OF THEM IN HSV INSTEAD OF BHAM. BUT HIS STAFF MANAGED TO GET THE REMAINING THREE SET UP FOR THE SAME DAY SO I ONLY HAD TO DRIVE DOWN ONE TIME. THE STAFF IS VERY BUSY BUT ALL WERE EXTREMILY SWEET AND HELPFUL.
