Edward Facundus (COE) Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. F had a great air about him. He's confident in his abilities, and he pays close attention to detail. (In other words he's a bit anal... but that's a great trait to have in a surgeon!) He answered my questions, the few I had left after his wonderful staff had taken care of me. His approach is that surgery is only a part of the solution. It'll take good nutrition, exercise, and mental and emotional preparation and commitment to be successful.

I had my first visit with Dr. Facundus yesterday. My first impression of him was that he was very self-assured and knowledgeable about morbid obesity and Roux-en-y surgery.

He took quite a long time with me describing the procedure and what to expect, then let my husband and I ask questions for about an hour. He was very patient and even has a sense of humor...nice with so much "heavy" stuff swirling around (sorry...no pun intended!). I asked him if he required psych evaluations and he said "yes, I go at least once a week!" Ha Ha!

He was very point blank about the risks of the surgery and the need to change your lifestyle. He will not do the surgery if you gain weight before the surgery because he says that your head isn't in the right place. He also requires you to go through some of the Bariatric Wellness Institute classes before the surgery so that you are well aware of what will happen and what will be expected of you.

Our overall opinion is that he is a very thorough and maybe what some people call "@n@l retentive"...but for a bariatric surgeon, this is a BIG plus! He's meticulous and also has a sense of humor...which is the icing on the cake...er, well, maybe from now on I should refer to it as the sugar free candy on the great tasting protein drink!

Dr. Facundus is a very confident and competent surgeon. I feel as comfortable as i possibly can about having major surgery.

My first impression of Dr Facundus was he is very professional. He was informative, very knowlegable concerning the WLS. He explained the risk of the surgery & aftercare. He has a great bed side manner.

The day I meet Dr. Facundus was the day my life changed forever. After talking with Dr. Facundus in january 2003, I knew that he was the one that I wanted to do my surgery. He was very up front about everything. He also told me that he thought I was a good candidate for the surgery. He and his staff have been there anytime I had a question. He was very positive about it helpin my back and my ankle. And I owe my life to him and his staff. He's a wonderful person and will talk with you when you need answers.I had my surgery on 4-17-03.. 3 months later i've lost 80.5 pounds.. Thank you Dr. Facundus and staff.. Update July 21, 2003: Met with Kathy at Dr. Facundus office will meet with Doctor on august 8. Insurance no problem. They just wanted to change the procedure code. I need an angel. Help!

Update July 1, 2003: I had to change surgeons due to the extremely high co-pay. I am now considering the lap rny with Dr. Facundus. He is one of the best in Alabama. I will meet with his staff on July 14. I am really nervous but I will overcome that fear because I have no other choice.

I met with Dr Paynter on May 5, 2003. He was a very nice and I was impressed with him. He explained everything to me about the surgery and I feel he will make a great surgeon. I was also pleased with his staff. They were really nice and seemed concerned about me even though they didn't know me. I am waiting for my insurance company to get with it.

I was very impressed with Dr Facundus and his office staff.Dr. Facundus made me feel comfortable immedately on my first visit.He explained everything to me and gave time to ask questions without making me feel dumb or rushed ,He never seemed in a hurry to leave the room,until he was sure I had asked all I needed to ask.I remember my first visit , when he came into the room he walked straight up to me into my personal space L.O.L that startled me ,then i relized thats just him :).

My first impression of Dr Facundus was he looks young but he was very professional.
He was very straight forward and explained the procedure and risks in detail.With God on
our team how can anything go wrong! I know I'm in good hands with Dr Facundus.Also his office staff was very helpful and supportive.

Pre-op comments
I HAVE NOT MET HIM YET. I HAVE MY INITIAL CONSULTATION IN MARCH. I DID MY RESEARCH ON LOCAL SURGEONS.I HAVE HEARD A LOT OF GOOD THINGS DR. FACUNDUS FROM ACTUAL PATIENTS.HIS RECEPTIONIST MADE A GOOD 1ST IMPRESSION. I HIT HER WITH ALL KINDS OF QUESTIONS OVER THE PHONE. SHE WAS PLEASANT, PATIENT, HAD A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR, AND ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS.
Hospitalization comments
Dr. Facundus has a great bedside manner. And let me not forget to mention that gorgeous smile. He appears to be very concerned with his patients and their well-being. He is very knowledegable in his field of practice. I am very pleased I chose him as my surgeon.

First impression was formed by hearing other post-ops singing his praises. I was thoroughly and completely impressed by his attentiveness to my individual case. He was very professional...addressed all the risks and benefits. Overall, I rate him the HIGHEST possible rating. I have had a positive experience with his office staff. Dr. F emphasizes aftercare as a very important part of this wonderful journey. Both Dr. F's surgical competence and bedside manner are great!
