I have gone from my top weight of 301 1/2, 265 at surgery 10/24/2005, and now hold steady between 135-140. I had excess skin removal and a mid-body reconstruction with breast lift in 2010. It's now 2022 and I have never regretted my RnY or reconstruction surgeries. I could still easily gain weight if I don't watch most of my food and my activity levels, but I don't think I'd be alive today without the surgery and my amazing surgeons. <3
My first impression of Dr. Facundus was one of confidence. He was confident in his ability as a surgeon, and confident that I would do well with the surgery. My impression in him has not changed since our first meeting. He is a competent, confident surgeon with a friendly manner who took the time to answer my questions. I highly recommend him!
His office staff is very helpful. They told me what to expect from the beginning and how their program was set up. They didn't get frustrated with any of my phone calls and were very interested in helping me keep up with the documents my insurance needed to approve my surgery. It was a long paper trail, though not as long as other people I've talked to.
I'd suggest making a list of questions that you want to ask your doctor - before you get to the first visit. Keep up with your list and add things as you think of them. You'll never remember it all in his office. I found out that most of my questions were answered during the regular visit, and I only had to ask a few questions at the end of our visit. Dr. Facundus and his staff have a wonderful program in place to address the needs of the WLS patient.
Dr. Facundus has outstanding surgical competence and a good bedside manner. If I had to choose one over the other though, I'd go with the competence! Your surgeon won't be there by your bedside for long, but his work will be with you for life... I have been pleased with my choice and have been able to tolerate all allowed foods reasonably well, especially when you consider I'm only 14 weeks out!
One last note: The nurses told me my doctor did not want them to put my nausea medicine into my IV (phenergan), but that it would be easier on me if they did, and that they did it all the time. Hey, I was on heavy pain meds and didn't really think about it... I experienced problems with the veins in my hand and arm where the medicine went in. The veins turned hard, swollen, and dark (like bruising) for about 6-8 inches up my arm and the back of my hand (where my IV was located). This has improved in the last 14 weeks, but is still not well yet. Don't let them put phenergan into your IV, and if they say your doctor doesn't want them to do something - be aware enough to tell them not to do it.
This is my own personal experience and you may or may not experience the same things.
If you do as he says it will work.DO NOT Start back eating junk.I am have to deal with about 40 extra opounds now.Back to the way I was eating will help and plenty of excerise.
Man o man. Was I dreaming or what.Had not seen anything that nice in a while. But, I wasn't really looking for anything. You know he is just as sweet as he looks.I knew he was an angle the minute I saw him.And the ladies that are in the office were GREAT also.Just don't be afraid to ask him anything. He knows it all.He talks about all the beginning to the end. He and his staff are the greatest.I just can't say enough about them.Sometimes you might have to wait a little while to go back to see the doctor. But, I talked to a lot of people the day I had to do that. So I was ok.Have questions written down for the ones that are to have this done.I feel good.
I researched this guy for a while before I made an appointment with him. I talked to former patients and read the reviews and his website information. I have been VERY pleased with him and the procedure he did for me. He met with me and told me up front the options and how RNY was a better option for me than LAP because of my diabetes. He has been totally honest and eager to help me. His office has a well structured plan and then insurance approval was pretty painless. He is EXTREMELY thorough so be prepared to have tests run if he has questions about your health. I had to have cardiac stress test, MRI of abdomen and pelvic, and other tests run before he would do the surgery. He covered risks well and he is a nice guy. He is very busy so his bedside manner is brief but he tells you what you need to know and answers questions.
I guess the least thing I liked about my experience with his office is the $$$. Seemed like a frontrunning topic and before I had even been able to see him I was already invested over $600 for nutritionist and bariatric consults. I had to pay over $1200 up front to cover what my insurance wouldnt pay and $800 to the anestesiologist (my plan only covered 50% of the surgeon fees and anestesiology cost). There were no payment plans available so having the money up front was imperative. UPDATE::: I get the $1200 back and the $800 was paid at 80% because I had met my annual out of pocket. Talk about surprised but I get the $1200 bakc on my flex card to pay for other stuff for the rest of the year. I am VERY pleased about this but it will take 30 days to get the refund and apply to my card. I can see new glasses, skin treatments, and other elective things bieng done to use this money that i didnt know I had. Happy dancing here.
I have had zero complications and zero issues. I am off all medications. I am very pleased with my choice and even the money I had to pay up front. I feel so much better and so far it has been so worth it.
I chose Dr. Facundus because I was told he was a great surgeon. I have no complaints about his surgical abilities, and he did ask me if I had questions the three times I met him, but, all in all, I think the Doctor and his office probably could do a much better job communicating with their patients. I base this on my experience after surgery, when I tried calling the nurse with questions, she didn't even know that it was okay to eat popsicles, and I was told to talk to my PCP in regards to medication to help me sleep. Again though, what's most important is finding a good surgeon, so I do recommend Dr. Facundus for that fact.
I have had my gastric bypass surgery on October 15,2008. I came through with flying colors. I have had no problems whatsoever. I was really impressed with Dr. Facundus, and so was my husband. I was immediately put at ease by his knowledge and competence. I didn't like some of the things he told me (14 day liquid diet -pre surgery!) But, I did as instructed and the things that seemed difficult at the time, are nothing but a blur now.
I would recommend Dr. Facundus to anyone who is serious about changing their life. He is the best in my book!
Firs impression: very profesional staff and Dr.rnVery caring and willing to help me through the process.rnHe is great. Really cares and wants you to have success. Will fuss at you if you have not adhered to pre-op program.rnHe requires you to go to a WLS support group and have a paper signed to prove it. This lets him know you have a group you can connect with post-op.rnI would highly recomend Dr. F to anyone and everyone. He had a wonderful bedside manner and surgical competence X3000 RNY under his belt.rnHe did fuss at me for gaining weight between my Sept visit and my Feb. surgery date. He made me feel as though he was going to refuse to do the surgery. It really scared me because I had work so hard and long to get to that point. I realize he want the best for me and wants success and I took it as a reminder that this is the real deal, no turning back. Success= compliance
Dr. Facundus and his staff are wonderful. Stephanie was extremely helpful with the insurance filing. All of the receptionists, nurses and assistants are kind, understanding and very helpful. Dr. Facundus was very thorough, and made sure that I was aware of all of the pros and cons associated with the procedure. He has a wonderful bedside manner, and he makes you feel cared for. In combination with his office and the BWI, they laid out a structured and easily understood post-op plan. I had attended his seminar prior to coming into the office, and I would recommend attending it to anyone thinking about the surgery. I love Dr. Facundus and his staff and would recommend him to anyone in the North Alabama area.
I have had my first consultation with Dr. Facundus, and found him very caring about the type of surgery he preforms for obese patients. I researched my surgeon a lot and found that he had many years of experience and has done over 1800 surguries of this type. My insurance company gave me several different hospitals to choose from to have my surgery in and I found Crestwood and Dr. Facundus to be my choice. It will be further to travel, as I live in WVa., but I feel it will be worth the extra miles to have Dr. Facundus and Dr. Foreman doing my surgery. The office staff was very helpful and explained everything I needed to know to prepare my paperwork for the insurance company.
