I went to Dr Facundus office. All of the nures was so nice to me.
Kristi a patant her self that had it done ove a year ago. Was so nice and explaine everything. Letting me now this is not just a fix quite to loose wight I will have to want to chane all my eating habbits. And they are suport groups that we all help each other. Threw good and bad. I got a little cold feet and called her about some one else having problems. And could that happen and what was the likly hood of that happening to me. She was so sweet. And told me all about what the Docter was going to do. And he had not had any one get sick like her. I meet Dr. Facundus he is a sweet man. Wanted to help. Told me the does and don't and told me this suragery is not for every one. But I had to deside that. And I HAD AREADY desided this was the only way I might be able to get my life back. I am going down hill quick. And now I think is the time to do it. Before I do any more damage to my body. My family Docter. is all for it. And my Docter I have been seeing for 13 year is all for it. She nows it will help my self asteam a lot. Plus my docter that I go to for my knees. IS ALL FOR IT.
I liked every thing about Dr. Facundus, and his blunt way of putting how this is not ride in the park. But also inthe same time put it in he would take care of me. And make me now that each patant is differant. And that is how he takes each pationt. I look forward to the operation. And meeting all the new people I will meet. Nowing they went thre the same thing, as I. And they won't jugde me becouse of my size.

I was treated warmly and with respect by Dr. Facundus and his staff. I was curious about the origin of his name - it's Portugese. He has a warm, friendly smile, and was great about explaining the risks of the procedure and answering my blunt questions. No, he's never had a WLS patient die from surgery, and he hasn't ever had anyone with a leak after the surgery; he checks carefully for leaks in the O.R. So the odds seem good! As I've seen some other people post, I did feel a little rushed during my appointment, but the positive side of that is I didn't have to wait! I actually got in for my consult the same week I was referred by my PCP because they'd had a cancellation.
In watching Dr. Facundus interact with his office staff I got the impression that they all have an excellent working relationship with each other. I'm impressed that he has WLS patients as his bariatric coordinators to explain what it's like to have the surgery and what to expect afterwards. I spoke with Dane and she even gave me her home phone number so I could call her with any questions I had after the appointment, since we were kind of hurried. One thing that I did forget to ask and that was not addressed in the booklet I got was the approximate total cost of the procedure. I need to know how much $ I will have to pay out-of -pocket. My insurance is BCBS Federal and they will cover most of the expense assuming I get approved, but I still need some idea.
My PCP told me that if I felt uncomfortable with Dr.Facundus, he could refer me to a surgeon in Birmingham or Nashville, but I see no need for that. I think Dr. Facundus will do an excellent job and it will be great to be able to have the surgery in my own town. Crestwood hospital is just a few miles from my house.

My first impression was that Dr. Facundas was very cute, not what I expected. That's probably not correct to say, but oh well. He was nice, I thought, but by the end of the meeting my feelings were just a little bit hurt. He seemed a little abrupt to me. But, after thinking about it, I realize that he just really wanted me to understand the seriousness of what i was about to undertake. It was like being hit by reality, and I appreciate that. Everyone in the office was was really nice, except for his nurse. She never once really spoke to me, or smiled at me, and when I was explaining my current home meds, she was very short. Perhaps she was having a bad day, so we shall see what happens at the next visit. Kristy, the coordinator, was great! She took all the time I needed to answer questions, and she and Dr. Facundas said I could call at anytime to ask questions. They were great. He addressed the risks of surgery well, but that wasn't my biggest issue- I have researched that so much it is all starting to sound the same. However, surgical competence is the most important aspect to me, and he spent a great deal of time explaining his credentials despite me being slightly embarassed for asking. He said it was ok, and that I should ask. So he had a good bedside manner for trying to cover up my embarassment. I rate him a 10

He is very soft spoken. I was not rushed during my first consultation. Answered my questions carefully.
I've only met with him once.
His staff has been very nice and friendly. They do not act like I'm bothering them when I call.
There was nothing I didn't like about him.
Write your questions down ahead of time cause you'll forget what you want to ask.
He didn't really stress much about the aftercare of the surgery. He will probably go over that on my next appointment in 3 days.
I don't remember if he addressed the risks of the surgery.....sounds like I was asleep during my first consultation, doesn't it?
I can't rate him yet on what I've seen of him, that wouldn't be fair. So far, I've been pretty pleased.
Both surgical competence and bedside manner are important. First, I don't want anyone just playing around with my stomach! I want them to be very knowledgeable in this area and feel confident in what they do. And second, the GOOD surgeon should have a good bedside manner. He should have good communication skills. I, being the patient, feel more relaxed with a doctor I can talk to and communicate my fears and expectations.

From my very first visit with him, I knew Dr. Facundus sincerely cared about the 'whole' person... He explained the risks involved in having the surgery; stressed that the surgery was a tool and certainly it was necessary to incorporate exercise. His office staff was wonderful. I highly recommend Dr. Facundus to anyone considering weight loss surgery.

Dr. Facundus and his staff have been very kind, patient, and professional. They have made sure that any question I might have pre-op could be answered. Before scheduling the surgery, he required that I meet with a diatician to discuss the phases of the diet. Dr. Facundus and the diatician both went over the overall post-op conditions to expect. I will be seeing him again at 2 weeks post-op and there is a scheduled sequence of checkups after that. He has a nurse in his office that is his bariatric coordinator and she has been through the procedure herself. The only thing I would have like to have seen done differently, is, I would have liked to have met with her pre-op instead of waiting post-op. Overall, I would rate the doctor and his staff very high. I have been pleased with both his bedside manner and competence.

My 1st impression of him was YES! I'm in the right place. He get's very personal with his patients and I really like that in a doctor being a nurse (med-surg) I deal with a great deal of doctors who don't always get on the same level as the patient. Dr.F asked questions to determine if I had thought this out, he emphisized on the fact that there is no going back and I don't believe it was to scare me but to make sure that I didn't think this was a quick fix for loosing weight but, a way to enhance my life and prevent increasing health problems. He stressed the fact that this will only work if I make it work. He requires that you see a nuritionist (Dr. Carson) who goes more into detail of the do's and dont's and he also offered some very helpful advice on a counselors level. I have to say overall Dr.F and his staff are wonderful and I would highly recommend them.

I first met Dr. Facundus at a WLS support group meeting. He took the time to speak to our group and answere all questions. He was right to the point and did not mince words. I liked that. After 3 appointments with him I really appreciate his self-assuredness. It makes me feel safe in his care. He seems to relate well to issues of obesity. His office staff is wonderful! Helpful and friendly. They made my approval process easy. Dr. Facundus has a well rounded approach to WLS. Education, Nutrition and he supports participation in a before/aftercare group. On a scale of 1-10 Dr. Facundus is a 10! I am holding back some on that rating until my surgery is complete! LOL Post-Op Update: 4 days after my surgery I have to say Dr. Facundus is the best! He was supportive to my family during my procedure as well making sure that my hospital care was top-notch. I would hand him my life again.

I was impressed with Dr Facundus in 1996 when my oldest son was born. He had hernias and Dr Facundus did the repair on him when he was 2 months old. He was very kind to me and my family and kept all of us informed. His office staff is great!! They have been so nice to me. I went to school with one of his nurses and knowing someone there makes it easier for me. I would rate Dr F a 10!!! (scale 1-10)

Dr. Facundus was very professional and willing to take time to answer any questions I had.

The office staff is very friendly and helpful. The coordinator has had the surgery so she could give first hand information.

Professionalism

He has a very good reputation and calm manner.

The office provides you with a manual that answers most aftercare questions.

The office visit was very short so having a list of questions with you would help.
