My first impression of Dr Rodriguez is that he is a very skilled surgeon. His office staff are very thorough and kind. Karen, the nurse, explained everything in detail and answered all my questions. Melva, the insurance coordinator, is wonderful. She had me approved for surgery within a day. Dr. Rodriguez lets you know up front that he and your primary care physician will be your doctors for life. Aftercare is very important to him and his center has everything in place to make sure you succeed. His office is located in Methodist hospital, which is in my neighborhood.
I was referred to Dr. Dirk Rodriguez by my PCP. She suggested I attend his seminar at Methodist Hospital. My first impression of Dr. Rodriguez was that he is very blunt and honest about how he feels about the insurance companies and their un-willingness to pay for the surgeries. He is very up front about the committment he expects from you in your lifestyle change. And committs to be your doctor for the rest of your life.
In my case, due to my excessive mega mega obesity, he recommended I have a IVC Filter placed in me. This is an extra precautionary method to deal with possible blood clotting during and after surgery. Dr. Kollmeyer did that procedure in Day Surgery 4 days before my surgery on Friday, 2/18/05 and I have no pain whatsoever from the small incision. If you would like more information on that, I would be happy to let you know.
I want to mention, that I have two friends who have mentioned this procedure (IVC Filter) to their Bariatric surgical teams and they do not necessarily use it but were very impressed that Dr. Rodriguez used it. Primarily due to my size and level of obesity.
I most definitely recommend Dr. Dirk Rodriguez and his staff at Texas Bariatric Center, Methodist Hospital.
I had my consult with Dr. Rodriguez on March 30. He was very kind and understanding. He seemed to understand that this is all about regaining my health. He has a carefully structured aftercare program. 4/27/04 I want to thank Dr. Rodriguez for working with me to schedule a surgery date. My insurance company will no longer provide benefits for MO after 6/1/04. Dr. Rodriguez is going to add me on to his already busy day so that I squeeze in before the deadline. 2/1/05 Today is my birthday and my 8 month post op anniversary. My life has changed so much. My diabetes is gone, my blood pressure is normal. Dr. Rodriguez and his staff have been wonderful. Dr Rodriguez is patient and supportive when you have questions, although you know he's busy & probably answers the same question 10 times a day. He knows what he wants you do and makes sure that you know what is expected. If you aren't serious about changing your lifestyle, this isn't the program for you. If you are trying, he will bend over backwards to help. His Bariatric Coordinator, Karen is wonderful. She is always the voice of calm and reason and has never made me feel silly for asking a question. Yolanda is kind and great at making sure your message gets delivered. If you are considering this surgery, I would highly recommend Texas Bariatric Center.
Dr. Rod and his staff are the best around! I am a pretty meticulous and anal person and I researched many surgeons in the Texas area and I was SOOOOOOOOOOOO impressed with Dr. Rod and his staff. Way more than anyone that I had researched. They are EXTREMELY organized, professional, kind, courteous and have great follow up. Dr. Rod meets with all of his patients prior to having surgery, is excellent with you during the surgery (and even thanked me for allowing him to take care of me...WOW!), and meets with everyone post op for appointments. Most surgeons that I have heard of don't do this...he is just awesome. I got approved in one day, had a VC Filter put in a few days later, had preops done the day after that and then surgery a week later. They are just so awesome. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Rod and his staff to EVERYONE!
Oh, they give everyone as part of the seminar a Discharge Notebook (aka WLS bible)..it is huge and filled with so much information on pre - op, surgery plans and post op (including a huge nutritional section and exercise plan). They also have a mandatory post op seminar for patients with a psychologist and Karen the nurse. It is just awesome!
OVERALL, they rate A+ in my books!
Dr. Rodriguez is an awesome Surgeon, a very no nonsense professional, who tells you exactly what it takes to be successful on your WLS journey. I find him positive, and friendly and serious about your success. I am glad I chose him. He has a very good aftercare program and is committed to your success.
So far, everything I have read about this man has been VERY positive. It seems he is a very qualified surgeon who places patient care as his top priority. I met Dr. Rod on 1-26-05 at my consultation and this man is truly a great doctor. He is caring and takes the time to answer your questions and make sure you understand what you are getting yourself into. He also stresses how important after care, excercise, and compliance is. I definitely knew I had the right doc when I walked into the waiting room and on the wall, there are two pictures. One of the doctor at his desk, and one of him operating. In both, Jesus is standing beside him, guiding his hands. God is truly looking after ALL of us! :)
He seemed to be very busy but knowledgeable.
I have only met with him once so far.
The office staff was also very busy but they were polite and helpful.
I liked that they seemed very knowledgeable and made you feel comfortable. I was a little concerned about being just another face in the crowd. I wanted them to care about My surgerey and Me and with it so busy I guess it made me a little nervous.
They very strongle emphasize after care and have a very stuctured program and they are very honest about all of the risk and that this is not magic you have to work hard and do your part. I would give them a ten so far. I think competence is most important but you need to have the bedside manner to let the patient know you care and they can trust you.
