My surgeon was great. I was treated with great respect. Dr. Rodriguez is very strick with his paitents. He wants the best for them and their future health. He takes all the necessary precautions to help prevent complications while in the hospital and after you are home. His office staff is very helpful in the paitents needs. He is into to continuing aftercare, you will leave on the day of orientation knowing almost everything you need to know about the surgery and how he works with the insurance company, and how important following the rules is.
I Attended the Baylor WLS seminar with Dr. T. Mccarty and Dr. Nichols and found them to be very informative. The session started at 6pm and lasted until 9pm when I left at 9 there were still people going up to the Dr's asking questions. He really emphasize aftercare and to really make sure this is what you want. WLS is just a tool and not the cure all miracle, if you continue with your bad habits don't expect a miracle. Not to fought the Dr's at Baylor but after turning in all my necessary paperwork and then not hearing from them for 4 months and everytime I called the office I constantly I got told that they'll get back with me and then when I finally called the insurance company after 4 mo they had never received any paperwork I decided then to switch and go with Dr. Dirk Rodriquez Him and his staff are the BEST. The first time my paper work was submitted on the exact date Melva the insurance coordinator gave me. Though I was denied she was there to encourage me not to give up. But after switching insurance companies Approved within 3 days on the first go.
Very impressed with Dr. Rodriquez and staff, everything was in order and he was very willing to help me with ALL of my questions and offer all safety measures that will take place leading up to the procedure, and what is expected of me. He is a God sent. It is worth the wait for the right surgeon to be choosen.
Dr. Rodriquez is the best, he is firm and very helpful. He will always do his part to make sure you are protected, before, during and after the surgery. I am so thankful for Dr. Rodriquez. I thank God for him.
I was favorably impressed
It didn't
They were great, however twice I made the five hour one way trip just to find the Doctor not in.I had not been notified of his absence.
Nothing
He is very dedicated.
Very much
Yes
He explained at length the many risks,
I rate him as excellent and would recommend him any time.
Surgical competence
Dr Rod is very good at what he does. He is constantly looking for ways to improve the overall experience/ healing process. He wants us all to be a sucess. In that, he and his staff will on take the candidates that are screened carefully to make sure everyone's best interest/health is placed first.
He is very no nonsense (this sometimes make him a little intemidating). He expects that when you come to him for this type of help that you are going to make a lifelong commitment. If this is not your intent, he is not the doctor for you.
New update...
I have not gone in and updated some things that I experienced with Dr Rod. I simply did not feel good enough at the time. Some things were said to me that were very rude, uncalled for, and just hurtful. I was very scared and felt something was wrong. After a few phone calls he made an appointment for me to come in and see him because as his nurse very aggravatedly put it "We are not reassuring you over the phone so if you want any other help on this you need to come in". I drove the 3 hours to their office. I find out my bladder is the size of a soccer ball with at least 2 liters of fluid in it and has not been working properly. This could have very easily killed me... This was the reason I had not been able to eat/drink (which they dismissed as me just being over anxious) Dr Rod even told me the day before I came to see him.."Donna, you have got to get a grip. We are logging more calls for you than American Idol." I had only called 3 or 4 times. I knew something was very wrong!!
It makes it very hard on me...because I do not feel like this is a good place to go in the respect of the bedside manner. I have not gone back since that day because of the way I was treated. They make you feel scared to call or ask them questions. Although they are experts in the field...they have to understand that their patients are not. The black book they always make you refer back to does answer some questions..but not all of them. There is alot of grey area...that is where the human side should come out.
I work with several of Dr Rod's patients. I am not the only person who has experienced this sort of thing.
Haven't actually met Him yet but have received and e-mail from his Nurse as well as a phone call once I put my profile up. My best friend went to his seminar this last week and was way impressed with him. Talked to my husband and told him about the Dr. and he told me to go for it. I heard Dr. Dirk was way up front about things and tells you the facts and is very experienced. I am glad for that. I believe he will be the one I go to once I get my insurance :)

Just called to get an appointment and they tell me they will call me next week. Lovely the waiting starts!

Well I have had the surgery and of course met my Surgeon. He's very blunt and to the point. I didn't really care for him but did trust him at first. My mom and him went round and round after surgery but when we talked he was good. He just cares so much that you do the right thing. But he will hear no excuses for habits you had prior that should be stopped. If you smoke...STOP. He is very righteous about that. Doesn't like smokers. Told my mom I would quit or I would find a new Dr. Whew mom was peod!!!
dr rodriguez is a very busy man. one thing i can say is that he's straight up and straight to the point. i like that. his office staff are very nice. dr rod is good. and his program is very structured. dr rod is now my new dr for life, along with my pcp.
i felt very confident in dr rod and his knowledge and experience.
DR. RODRIGUEZ AND HIS STAFF HAVE BEEN VERY INFORMATIVE TO ME AND MY WIFE. I WAS IMPRESSED WITH THEM AND THEIR CONCERN FOR ME. MY SURGERY IS SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY DECEMBER 13, 2004. I AM EXCITED ON STARTING MY NEW JOURNEY. MY FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND I HAVE AND WILL CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR A SAFE SURGERY AND RECOVERY. I DO UNDERSTAND THAT THIS WILL BE A LIFESTYLE CHANGE AND I WILL HAVE TO EAT RIGHT, GET MY PROTEIN, AND DRINK LOTS OF WATER. YOLONDAY, MELVA, AND THE OTHER OFFICE STAFF HAVE BEEN WONDERFUL AND KNOW THAT I AM EXCITED FROM MY CALLS. FUTURE PATIENTS NEED TO KNOW THAT DOC IS STRAIGHT FORWARD AND I DO BELIEVE THAT HE WILL HELP ME IF I HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCRERNS BEFORE AND AFTER THE SURGERY. SO FAR I RATE HIM AN 8.
I have been very impressed with the wonderful combination of professionalism and care that I have found with Dr. Rodriguez and his staff at Texas Bariatric Center. My first impression was peace... When you walk in their door, the first thing you see on the wall is a large painting of a surgeon operating on a patient with Jesus standing beside him and guiding his hands. I knew I was blessed to have been led here. My wife and I met with Dr. Rodriguez together and he never seemed rushed to answer our questions and make sure we were fully on-board with a program mutually committed to succeed. His staff was very helpful in fully explaining the process and procedure, and really made everything run smoothly. My insurance request letter was submitted on a Tuesday and I found out that same Friday that I was approved and my surgery was immediately scheduled for the following week! I look forward to updating post-op. Wow, this has been quick!
Dr. Rodriguez is a no-nonsense, shoot from the hip kind of guy. He tells it like it is weather you want to hear it or not and yet he is sensitive and personable at the same time. I feel that he is not only a competent surgeon but a man considerate of the issues obese people face.
The day I had my first visit with him new furniture was being delivered to the patient rooms. Big, wide, solid wooden chairs with arms. I hadn't sat in a chair with arms comfortably in years. And his front office has a padded bench that runs around the room that allows someone of any weight to sit and take as much space as they need without feeling awkward.
I became emotional during the visit and he said "I get this alot on first dates." He made me laugh and I was his from that moment on.
Dr. Rodriguez is a stickler about the patient being as committed to the success of the weight loss as they can be to the extent that he makes us sign a contract that we will exercise and eat correctly daily, attend monthly support meetings and return for all of our followup visits.
The only negative comment I have is that a certain member of the office staff was less than clear on directions and seemed to be doing things other than she said she was doing on several occasions. I believe this was due to her belief that I would not succed with my approval because I had a dickens of a time with my insurance provider and therefore was waisting her time.
I am looking forward to my surgery next week on 12/01/04. I'll let you know how things went after I get home.
