St. Alexius NewStart Hospital
The only thing close to a complaint I could have is that they did not have giant-sized pajama pants for the post surgery time. The size they had ("this is the largest we have") could not have been more tha a 48" waist and were tight on me. However, they did cover my backside while in those hospital johnnies.
Nursing staff was excellent, even if short staffed. I had a few across the shifts and they were personable, responsive and involved in my care.
This hospital has some very nice and caring workers, as with all there are some not so nice and caring workers too. I think I had my not so nice ones all on my day of surgery postop. I had pain controls issues, staff communication issue's. We even called the Nurse Manager regarding an issue and she got a smart mouth attitude with us saying that we had already asked for this and it cant be gotten. (noone had let us know this, we just assumed it was forgetten just like my pain meds!) My preop day was awesome, the staff was very caring and nice. I really liked a few of the nurses althought during my entire stay, only one nurse on the last day did a head to toe assessment on me. Thats pretty scary!!
The staff at this hospital was very nice and attentive to my needs. I did feel that the x-ray technicians were scared of the radiologist--he was a big man and wasn't very friendly--it seemed like if I wasn't on the x-ray table right when he walked in the door, they would be in trouble or something. I felt rushed when they were wanting to get me on the table--I just had surgery and couldn't move too fast. I sensed quite a bit of tension in the room. After he was through, they seemed to relax. The cleanliness of my room was fine. The bathroom in my room needed cleaning though. The bathroom wasn't used much and the floor was pretty dirty. I know someone came in and mopped floors once, but they didn't touch the bathroom. I really didn't like the fact that I didn't have my own shower in my room either. Other hospitals I have stayed in I have always had my own FULL bathroom. I was in the "community" shower and as soon as I started to shower a man was pounding on the door wanting in and wanting to know how long I was going to be (how rude!). (There is a sign that shows that the bathroom is in use on the door --DUH!)
I had my surgery on a Friday and the staff on the weekend was very poor. When I was transfered from ICU to the regular floor my PCA pump was not working and I informed the nurse, she rudly stated that she assured me I was getting my medication but the machine did not beep and the dosage had not moved for several hours. My husband called a different nurse to ask how to machine worked and she said it was to beep when the button was pushed. We told her it was not beeping and the machine was not emptying so she fixed it. The cable that controls the button I had to push was not connected all the way, and instead of my nurse PAM checking it she just was rude and did not want to do her job. But when I went back into the hospital the second time for an infection the staff was wonderful, they tried to assign nurse PAM to me again and as I did the first time I was in there. I had another nurse assigned to me. They also lost my CPAP machine for 2 days my first stay in the hospital, it was found in another patients room with my name on it. GO FIGURE!!
