My first impression was he was very professional and put me at ease. The office staff at Cedar Sinai, Dr. Khalili office was one of organization with a full staff, each expertise in their own areas and always willing to help. I never encountered any rudness. The staff always goes out of their way to help and are willing to really work with you. From Peggy, Cynthia, Rassa, Ashley and all of the nurses are superb, a real team approach.
Aftercare and interaction has been good so far.
I would say his surgical competence was the best. I did not get to interact with him a great deal, mainly because I stayed in the hospital for only about 18 hours total. I was on a 23 hour hold. Meaning if you did well, vitals were stable you would be discharged within 23 hours. I would say I interacted more with his office associate, Dr. Furhman. However, I really did like Dr. Khalili as well. I am so happy with my decision to have my surgery at Cedar Sinai and Dr. Khalili as my surgeon.
I do have one thought about the 23 hour hold, I don't really think that is an adequate time. And although I did well coming home early, I think a 2 day stay is a better idea. Because you would benefit from the IV therapy, and not get dehydrated and since it was major surgery I think you really need the care and support of the hospital nurses and the dietician for more than just 23 hours.
I haven't seen the surgeon yet. I had my consult with Dr. Furman (retired). He was very nice. Everyone at Cedars Sinai has impressed me with their overall attitude & bedside manner. They are very efficient. So far I would recommend them to anyone looking to have wls.
4/22/05 - Met my surgeon and his assistant. I tell you he is the niceset man. I feel so comfortable letting him do the surgery. I know all is going to be well.
Dr. Khalili is an amazing surgeon, everything that I heard about him is all true and even better! I was able to meet him at my pre-op appt. 3 days before my surgery, he answered all of my questions which really comforted me. Then on the day of surgery, he came in to see me beforehand and was so calming and gentle and confident that I have to say that It helped me feel so calm going into surgery! Then in post-op, he came to visit me in my room at least 2 times each day and also had 2 other attending physicians who came in to check on me each day.
I have to say that the care that I got at Cedars Sinai was absolutely amazing.
The care that I received from Dr. Khalili's office, his staff and Dr. Furman was truly excellent. Also, the care that I received at the hospital before and after my surgery was also excellent. while I was in the hospital, they has a really good system in place: They had 2 nurses who were assigned to me all times, so I did not feel that I was over burdoning the nurse when I called for him/her because there we 2 of them!
The Bariatric program at Cedars Sinai is well organise and really focuses on the aftercare of the patient. The dietician gave me a detailed booklet of what I have to follow which really was well written and easy to follow, and my follow-up appointments have been very helpful.
I would rate Dr. Khalili with an A+, his office with an A+ and Cedars Sinai with an A+!
Dr. Khalili and his staff are wonderful. Very informative on the whole process from beginning to end. I have met many people in my support group that have gone to him as well. Even though I only met him three times, each time he makes you feel important and cared about. I felt completely safe in his care. The before and after care have been fantastic. His staff is a phone call away and are ready to answer any quesitons you have. I give Dr. Khalili a A+ in everything.
I only got to meet Dr. Khalili twice, once during my consultation and the day of my surgery. He is very pleasant, soft spoken and encouraging. Dr. Khalili put my mind at ease. I met with Dr. Khalili's associate during my last appointment before surgery. He answered a lot of my questions and clarified some points I wasn't sure about. The risk of surgery was discussed. I also asked him about their death rate and was very satisfied with the answer. Due to Dr. Khalili's schedule, it is very hard to reach him. My follow up appointment was with Dr. Furman. He is very nice and knowledgeable. Dr. Khalili's staff is competent, but extremely busy. Sometimes, it takes perseverance and repeat phone calls to get what you need. Aftercare is very much emphasized. I met with the dietician during my last appointment before surgery and during my hospital stay. I got detailed instructions on how to eat and take care of yourself each week after the surgery. I would rate Dr. Khalili as probably a 9 on a scale from 1 to 10. I think his surgical competence and bedside manner are both great.
I met Dr. Khalili and his assistant Dr. Furman while my husband was going through the decision and, ultimately surgery process for lap gastric bypass surgery.
Dr. Furman did my husband's consultation and was honest, straightforward and concise. He was also very sweet.
We didn't meet Dr. Khalili until the day of the surgery because my husband was given a quick surgery opening at the last minute. I wasn't very happy about the way that worked out, but it was for the best. However, my first impression of Dr. Khalili is that he is soft-spoken, professional and knowledgeable. He was very encouraging to my husband during the surgery prep process and has been excellent for follow up after surgery.
The office/staff is very overworked but excellent and on top of things. They work hard to provide the best service.
What I like least about Dr. Khalili is his lack of accessibility due to his schedule. We've seen Dr. Furman much more than Dr. Khalili.
Future patients (myself included) should know that he has very high expertise and is an excellent surgeon. I have a lot of confidence in his expertise as well as the care given at his affiliated hospital, Cedars Sinai.
Aftercare is greatly emphasized. I live out of the area and had to ensure them that my husband would go through the support group and nutritional classes at a local center. The aftercare Dr. Khalili provided was periodic nutritional checkups on the blood work, which has been excellent.
The risks of surgery were clearly outlined.
I would rate Dr. Khalili a 9 out of 10, he would have had a 10 if he were more available.
Surgical competence in this surgery, in my opinion is MUCH more important. After my friend died of this surgery (from another surgery) due to surgical incompetence, I can't stress that enough. I guess if the doctor were neglectful that would be a problem, but professionalism and surgical competence are of utmost importance when having WLS!
I met him the day of my surgery. He was very nice and did not appear to be rushed. From reading previous profiles and my surgery I know he is a competent surgeon. I feel good and I ready to start this new journey. He came by on the day I was to be discharged and checked on me and gave me something to get rid of my gas. I think his surgical competence and bedside manner are both great. I loved being at Cedars and would recommend them to anyone having this surgery.
