I haven't actually met Dr. Khalili -- I met with his partner, Dr. Cunneen, who was very nice. I will meet Dr. Khalili for the first time a week before my surgery.
The office is very busy, and it is hard to get calls back from them. It takes perseverence. I am very confident in the doctors' skills so that is more important to me.
I like the fact that the doctor are somewhat conservative about the surgeries they perform. They are concerned about long-term nutrition and therefore don't do distal RNYs, just proximal. I'll post more after I actually meet the surgeon.
I thought Dr Khalili pre-op bedside manner was wonderful, communication and the office staff very supportive and helpful. Post-op with Dr. Khalili made my heart very sad. Since my surgery did not go as planned I felt he had little communication with me, had his residents visit me more than he did while I was in the hospital. He never had any clear communication with me post op. I found out through the nurses and my husband things did not go well. I was unimpressed with post-op bedside manner. Even my post op visit he was clear cut and it just seemed to me that I was too complicated patient for him. I must say he is a great doc knowledge wise but post op the communication and bedside manner was not acceptable to me. The hospital was awesome the nurses pre op and post op. I felt like a QUEEN. Thanks for listening. Thsese are just my personal impressions, I have friends that think Dr. Khalili is totally AWESOME. I am very happy for them. No one is perfect not even me.
The Beriatic Center at Cedar Siani is very good, the people are pleasant and supportive. They do have a contact via e-mail person and I like that.
The diatician conducts a weekly meeting however it is at 5 pm and hard for most of us to get there. We do have a good on line support network.
Like most doctors these are too busy. Probably not from their point of view.
They are easy to talk with and have excellent reputations.
He is a kind and gentle man who I believe has a passion to help morbidly obese people. His staff seemed to be in the know. I think they are really busy so they don't have time for unneccessary chit chat but that is okay. Dr. Khalili was very thorough with risks, before and after care of surgery. He comes highly recommended.
I am happy to announce that DR KHALILI has done the NATION'S FIRST ZEUS ROBOTICS SYSTEM-ASSISTED GASTRIC BYPASS SURGERY!!!!! Congratulations to Dr Khalili. He did it on 10-8-02 at Cedars Sinai Hospital. The patient, Kim Kishi, was the lucky lady to have it ever done!! She had it on a Friday and went back to work on a Monday. WOW. If you would like to read about this go to www.csmc.edu and click on breaking news.
I finally had my consult with Dr Khalili on 7/19/02, and it went wonderful. I meet all the criteria. Dr was wonderful, he answered all my and my husbands questions. We were not pressed for time. I was just a babbling idiot, I was so nervous and excited at the same time. The office staff was very kind, and Cedars Sinai was just caring, and kind. Just one more holiday of food. The after care is mandatory, 12 weeks of nutrition classes, and 9 months support group. So far all is well, just waiting for my approval, which I am sure will happen without a problem. Till then, I just day dream of what is to come. OH, I will be having the RNY.
Approved and scheduled. Thank you Elaine, your marvelous!
