I honestly never met Dr. Khalili until about 30 minutes before my surgery. All my dealings had been with Dr. Furman (my sweet angel!). I am so thankful for both of these doctors because my surgery was very complicated due to my 2 previous VBG's. Because Dr. Furman had been my surgeon in 1991, Dr. Khalili agreed to do my revision surgery (normally their office doesn't do revisions).
All my follow-up appts have been with Dr. Furman - and I had MANY follow-up appts because of wound infection i developed.
Although I've only met Dr. Khalili one time, I couldn't say one bad thing about this man... he is a skilled professional who (I believe) saved my life.
The staff is nice at the office, but I am at a bit of a disadvantage as far as aftercare goes because I live 2 hours away from the office - but this is the only group that my group refers to.
Hi I Tammy Palmer Had my surgey on May 14, 2004. I am 31 days post-op. My surgeon Dr. Theodore Khalili was great. He was very good about going over all aspects of the surgery. The gas pain was the most trouble I had. Walking helped alot. Getting to the day of surgery was long and most awaited. I went thru alot of time just to be seen, it was the waiting of 7 months before I could even get in to see the Doctor. I had to keep on them to file the paperwork and referals. Pre-op at cedar is tough! I felt like I was only a number and not a patient. I was hearded from place to place to complete my labs, and physical. A very stressful day, However looking back I know that it was my part of the process to get it done. I, as I said before am 31 days post-op and I have loss 27 lbs to date. It is work, I now am watching my food intake and my protein intake. I did'nt get to this weight over night and I know it will be some time to get it off. I use a journal to log my good and bad days, as well to log foods that have gone done good or with trouble.
I felt and still feel that Dr. Khalili is a very competent surgeon. He was friendly and personable. I love the office staff. They are funny and put me at ease right away. Dr. Khalili demands aftercare, with Cedars or your pcp. He informed me about all the risks of lap-band surgery. I think the staff at Cedars are warm and caring, especially the nurses.
The only negative thing is that I wish I had more time with a doctor after surgery. Several different doctors who work with Dr. Khalili came in to check up on me, but each of them was only there for about a minute.
My initial consult was mostly done by a young doctor in Dr. Kahlili's office. Dr. Kahlili spent a few minutes afterwards talking with me. He seemed friendly and caring. However, I was a bit disappointed that he didn't meet with me again during the pre-surgery consult (one week before surgery). On the day of my surgery, I saw him for about 30 seconds before the surgery. It was supposed to Dr. Khalili performing my surgery with Dr. Scott Cuneen assisting (at least, that's what I was told). I did not see him again that day or any days I was in the hospital (my surgery was on a Friday and I was discharged on a Sunday). I know that there is a mixed opinion on his "bedside manner" but the truth is that I wasn't really exposed to it to know one way or the other.
On the other hand, he did make a point of coming out after the surgery and personally talking to my wife about how well it went.
To me, surgical competence is far, far more important than a great bedside manner. From what I've heard, this is the surgeon you want and given the fact that I felt virtually no pain by the day of discharge, I feel pretty comfortable that he did a great job.
His office staff, especially Peggy, are helpful. Peggy is great: very friendly, sweet and caring and a fantastic sense of humor.
Aftercare is strongly emphasized with a one week follow-up appointment, a one-month follow up and then every three months afterwards for one year.
In sum, this is the surgeon and the office staff you want to do the job.
I have not yet met with Dr. Khalili. I met with Dr. Lahmann (sp?) who was very thorough and nice. The staff at the center was extremely professional and helpful in setting up appointments, etc., and in finding me an appropriate primary care physician, since I have not had one in many years. The center requires numerous pre-operative testing, for which I was grateful; I prefer not to have any surprises, healthwise, down the road.
1st impression great.
My impression hasn't changed
Receptionist could do alot better.
There was nothing I didnt like.
Future patients should know that I feel he is very skilled in what he does.
Emphasis on aftercare is lacking in my opinion.
The risks are very clear.
Overall I would say he was great.
Both bedside and surgical competence were great in my opinion.
Dr. Furman was personable and provided much needed information to my husband and I. The treatment by his staff was good. His staff was able to give me information as to the process to come in the next few weeks. I look forward to meeting Dr. Khalili, which will be the surgeon.
Dr. Khalili was great. I can not explain how I feel today! Things went so well. Here it is over 1 week a go and I'm doing lots of walking and have not had to take pain medication since the 2nd day after surgery. Bedside manner was great! Dr. Lahmann was great, also. I can not say enough about these two doctors. I HIGHLY recommend these Dr's, as well as Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, California. It is definately worth the wait!
the first consult was wit dr furman and he was very nice and patient. And he was my pre op dr also but the dr that was doing the surgery was dr khalili the surgery was scheduled for 9/3/03 when i came around in my room my husband told me that they did not finish the surgery as they fround something on the pancres and wanted to find out what it was beore they continued so the dr ordered a cat scan that was suppose to be done 9/19/03 @ ventura imaging went there and was told weighed 10 lbs more then the table would hold so had my pcp dr marquez's nurse call around and went to los angeles to tower imaging on 9/27/03 everything was ok called leroy to get new surgery date so it is now scheduled for 10/27/03****dr khalili did explain why h wanted it ck'd out and leroy and peggy in the ofc are super people****
1/19/03 I met Dr. Cunneen for my initial consultation today. He was very personable and articulate. I didn't feel rushed or like he was bored with the same old questions and answers. After talking with him, I decided to try for approval for LapBand surgery w/BC/BS of Michigan (I'm in L.A., but my company isn't...) If I can't get the okay for that, I'll go for gastric bypass. Insurance approval takes 4-6 weeks, he said.... Exciting!
8/21/03 Dr. Khalili became my surgeon, rather than Dr. Cunneen. I heard it was because Dr. Khalili does the RNY's. He seemed very competent. Though my RNY was set for 8/13, while I was in surgery, he found some spots he was concerned about and ended up doing a biopsy and CT Scan instead. I am so glad that he did. Everything turned out okay (read my profile), but I know that when I go back in, I will have a 100% clean bill of health! Maybe not a warm bedside manner, but I trusted him and was glad that he acted with such great restraint! His staff is extraordinary--caring and hardworking. It's been a long journey--and it's not over yet!
