My first impression of dr.Brolin was that he was quick and thorough and straight to the point. my mother had been a patient of his over twenty years ago and so was my aunt, and he rembered their first and last names and rembered them that impressed me so much. and every time I saw him after that he knew my name and whose daughter I was. the day of my surgery I was scared but Dr. Brolin walked over to me in the surgical waiting area and told me everything would be fine and reassured me to relax. I did and when I awoke I was fine. My impression of him dinot change, but his large group of pt's you don't feel like you or your situation mateers much because there is about 30 others waiting to see him in the hallan d waiting areas.The staff was really nice there were a few who needed people classes but hey you don't 6 months to see them your grateful your appt. date has come.future patients should be ready to wait , but my motto is be anxious for nothing we all have our time.Dr. Brolin and staff always strongly emphasize aftercare it is a must and essential to your health.the only thing I didn't like about the strructure of the aftercare was that you feel like a complete loser when you only lost 1 or 2 pounds while some have already lost 10 -20 ponds and their surgery was the same day as yours or a day before or after. and the fact that his interns come in before him for the assesment that bothered me he walked in after reading what they wrote.That was the first time i felt like a number and not his post op patient.Was always honest and to the point about the risk of surgery and the risks of being obesseddr.Brolins surgical competence was way better than his bedside manner. 1000 times better. I would have this surgery again and by dr. Brolin it saved my life my blood pressure went down and is now normal my snoring is now gone I don't run out of breath just by walking up the stairs , I look better but most of all i feel better this surgery gave me life back with structure I know when I am full, what to eat and what to have in moderation this surgery gave me a chance to be a better active person and mother . Im not afraid to walk int he mall or down the street anymore fearing people will laugh at me . I know one day I will die but it will not be from obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea or food. I still have a long way to go 100 more lbs I will do it, I walk 3 miles a day .and I plan to treat myself to a tummy tuck.
My first impression of Dr. Brolin was one of experience. He brought a calmness into the room. He is slightly older than the first surgeon I originally picked. He is also more experienced.
His staff is professional and caring. No questions are too small, and someone always makes time for you.
I heard from others that Dr. Brolins lacks bedside manner, but I did not find that to be true. At least not during our consult. Experience is what counts and the confidence that I felt was undeniable.

Dr. Brolin is a highly qualified surgeon with impressive professionalism and even more impressive know-how. His staff is equally professional and courteous and all my dealings with them have been pleasant and effective. I felt very safe in his hands during the operation and never for a moment douted his competence. I was not proven wrong.
Dr. Brolin is not a man of many words. He's brief and to the point. Some people may mistake this for lack of interest. Nothing could be further from the truth. He cares and he takes note of your case in every detail. He will do or tell his experienced staff to do all you need to have a succesful operation. His associates are also impressive and his office works like a clock.
Dr. Brolin's support group is also very organized. They have two on line groups and all members are eager to help each other and share information.I was visited at the hospital by reps of the support group with a goodie bag and good wishes.
I think very highly of Dr. Brolin and his staff and feel very lucky to have found him to perform this life altering surgery.
Excellent impression at my consult with Dr. Brolin and his staff. His receptionist greeted me with a great smile.
One of his associates explained the surgery in great detail and answered all my questions. Then I met Dr. Brolin, he seemed very confident and Friendly. He was reccommended to me by 2 friends who have already had surgery with him.
He answered all my questions and was very thourough.
Every person I met on his staff was very personable and really made me feel comfortable.
I have the utmost confidence putting my life in Dr. Brolin's hands. His surgical expertise speaks for itself if you do the research.
By the way, his bedside manner is great!
He also has a New office, with convenient parking (A plus in New Brunswick!)
I met with Dr. Brolin last week for the first time. I also met with one of his associates. I really liked all of the people in his office. They all seem very nice, very helpful, and very caring. Everyone had a smile when they greated me. It was very informative and helpful.They discusssed every aspect of the surgery with me. I have done a lot of research on the surgery and they helped make the decision complete. They are all very professional and they know what they are doing. I will hopefully have a surgery date for July. I am very excited about the whole process and hopefully starting a new life.
I had been warned that though he was extremely knowledgeable, his bedside manner left a lot to be desired. I am the kind of person that does not care about that. As long as he could do the job, he was fine with me.
As it turned out, in addition to being extremely knowledgeable, his beside manner was fine. He has a sharp, wry sense of humor and each and every one of his patients is important to him. As I got to know him better, I would even say that he's a mush (in the best sense of the word!).
His monthly support meetings are awesome and, since I started attending them, almost a year ago, he has not missed one.
His office staff, though extremely busy, go out of their way to be helpful and kind. They seem to enjoy the work and have helped me immediately with any and all problems I had.
Future patients should be aware that the wait time for a consult and between the consult and surgery can be considerable, but he is well worth the wait.
His emphasis on aftercare is extremely strong. He is a firm believer in lifetime support and aftercare. He makes sure you know that this is not a short term fix and that you are committing yourself to a lifetime of follow up for your own wellbeing.
The aftercare program is phenomenal and is very structured. There are monthly meetings and patient education seminars (at which attendance is mandated prior to surgery) and continues post surgery.
All of the risks and benefits are discussed at your consult and no question is taken as foolish. I walked in with a list of 65 questions and all of them, no matter how simple or complex, were addressed by Dr. Brolin and his staff.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate Dr. Brolin an 11.
Dr. Brolin's surgical competence is outstanding. His bedside manner, for me, was just fine.
My first two impressions of him came before my consultation. The first time I saw him was at a support group, and the second time was at a friends consultation. n my opinion, he was very serious, seemed to have almost no sense of humor and for some reason other than the humor thing he made no impression on me. But, when it came time for my consultation, which was a week ago today on 4/19/02, I instantly had a great impression of him. He remembered me. He didn't know exactly where he saw me but he remembered that I had been there before and it amazed me. With all the patients that he has and the many people he sees every day it was a wonderful feeling. He answered all of my boyfriends questions (he is the one who asked them all since I had been there before and he is very worried)without hesitation and was very thorough in discussing the possible complications, what exactly will be done, what will happen after surgery and what will be happening over the next few months. I don't know what his bedside manner will be like, but I believe I will not have a problem trusting his competancy in doing the surgery on me. The office staff, who are very busy, were pretty nice. He addressed everything very professionally. I have not had surgery yet but it is scheduled for 12/18/02. Dr. Brolin is wonderful and attends almost all of the Support meetings.
Dr Brolin is a doctor that gets right to the point, confident about what he is doing. I respected him from the first time meeting him and i thank God for him. He has always been respctful to me, and let me take my time to ask him anything that i needed to ask. His office staff is professional, compassinate, considerate, and very easy to get along with. They seem to go out of their way to make your visits easy. His staff is stern that aftercare is a must, If at any time you would need to get in touch with him or anyone that is not a problem, even after hours there is a answering service that will relate anything that needs to be related. Dr Brolin let you know that as with any surgery there is always a risk, which should not be taken lightly or carefree. This is surgery. His surgical competence is on a scale of 1-10, his is a 10. I had no fear to put my life in his hands. Come to his monthy meetings and you will get the chance to meet him because he takes the time to come and answer any questions you may have. His bedside manners is good, if not him i did see one of the doctors from his office each day. Or his nurce prat Gloria stoped by, and we did get a chance to talk and not feel rushed.
