I chose Dr. Robert Brolin as my surgeon because of his many years of experience with bariatric surgery and because of his ability to perform surgery on me. I had consulted with other surgeons who only did the surgery laproscopically and because of my high BMI, they told me to lose 100 pounds and to come back and then they could do the surgery on me. Dr. Brolin attempted my surgery laproscopically but had to do it \"open\" anyway, nevertheless, all went well and he not only saved my life but gave me my life back. I recommend him to anyone who is considering RNY surgery. He is a skilled surgeon who is willing to help anyone he can. And because of his experience he is able to operate on the largest of us, however, he will not just perform surgery because you want him too. He considers each person individually and will honestly tell you if he can help you and the complications and risks associated with the surgery. He is willing to answer all questions and offers information sessions on the surgery for those who want to learn more about it. Most importantly, he recognizes and stresses that the surgery is just the first step in long term success with keeping the weight off and is involved with his support group. He has been a blessing!rnNicole
I did not have my surgery with Dr. Floch. I had mine 7 years ago with Dr. Broline at St. peters in NJ. I will not post about my experience in Dr. Floch's area on that situation but would like to post about hos he took me in all of these years later as a post-op. I moved to CT a few years ago and had a terrible time finding a Dr. that would take me post-op until I met Dr. Floch. I feel blessed that I found him and the practice because they make me feel as though I am not alone in this! I hadn;t lost a pound in over two years and after speaking with him and trying a few changes to my routine I am now down another 25. I am feeling wonderful. I see him once every three months and he also referred me to nutritionists, surgeons and also to therapy - something i wish I did a long time ago. Thank you to Dr. Floch. I am not afraid of what to expect anymore! Also - if it weren't for him I would havent have realized that what i have been going through as a post op was NORMAL.
My first impression of the Dr Brolin and staff was that of relief ...There was is a synchronicity which layered the background of knowledge and exprerience but at the same time supportive and caring for me the patient.rnThe information is presented to you with any questions or concerns being addressed.
I had my roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery June 5, 2003 with Dr. Robert Brolin. I chose Dr. Brolin for his upstanding reputation of being a leader in the field of bariatrics. rnrnI was 441 lbs the morning of the surgery and had an open distal surgery. There were no complications and my recovery was uneventful. rnrnDr. Brolin provided exemplary care and continues to monitor me, four years later. He has a support group for his patients and cares about the issues weight loss patients face over the long term as well as his newly post op patients. He doesn't forget that this surgery is just the first step on a long journey. He is always available to his patients and cares about them all a great deal.rnrnI had gone to Dr. Brolin with a fear that he'd tell me I was too \"high risk\" but he didn't. He takes on cases other surgeons may not be willing to risk. Of course, his many years of experience means he has the expertise to do surgeries on those patients at higher risk. He is very thorough about letting his patients know all the risks while at the same time making the patient feel they are in very good hands.rnrnI would highly recommend Dr. Brolin. If it were not for him, I believe I'd not be here today to share with others. He saved my life and gave me back a quality of life I never imagined I'd experience again!!!rnrnNorma Smullenrn
Dr. Brolin is very competent, dedicated to WLS. His demeanor is soft and quiet. He is straight forward and to the point. I found him to be very knowledgeable and he is very experienced, that is what I was looking for in a surgeon. The office staff is superb. They are all very caring and know exactly what their jobs are. Dr. Brolin had 2 assistants with him during surgery, Dr. Pel a fellow and Dr. Najirian. They were both wonderful. My initial consult was with Dr. Pel and Dr. Brolin. They held nothing back and gave my husband and I all the info they had, pros and cons. Our questions were answered even though some of the answers were scary, but Dr. Brolin does not sugar-coat anything. That is what I like about him as I am also a straight forward, reserved type, so we hit it off. I believe surgical competence is the most important part of this surgery. Dr. Brolin is the best and I would recommend him highly.
My first impression of Dr. Brolin was thast he is highly educated. I met him first at the symposium, but didnt get much one on one time. When I met with him today I found him to be warm, caring, and ready to answer any questions. I first met with his fellow Dr. Pal? (I think) and she and Dr. Brolin answered all questions I had, even the questions my mom had. The office staff is very nice and helpful, miriam holds down the fort and Chris pretty much runs the show. Look forward to getting my date next week. Thanks NJ BARIATRICS~!
Dr. Brolin is a very quiet guy but very perfeshional.rnHis staff is the best, always chipper and ready to help.rnHe and His staff make sure all patients are well informed before and after surgery. He has a support group in his office once a month and he and his associat attend every meeting to answer questions.rnI think surgical competence is more important than bedside manner as long as the doctor doesnt have a \"GOD'' complex , and Dr. Brolin doesnt, he is very humble. His bedside manner is fine too. I realy don't have anything negative to say about him, all went better than I could have hoped for.
Dr. Brolin's office staff is amazing. They work so hard to get you approved for the surgery with your medical insurance. I went to the office on 9/4/09 and a week later on 9/11/09, I found out I was approved and got my RNY surgery date. Which is 10/14/09! I am so excited. Dr. Brolin knows what he is talking about. Very knowledgeable doctor. He doesn't really smile or crack jokes, like some doctors I have had in the past. Dr. Brolin gets right to the point and willing to answer your questions and listen to your concerns. But, I know a few people who had the surgery done with Dr. Brolin and they loved him. I will update once I get my surgery done.
I had already researched and interviewed other surgeons and concluded that Dr. Brolin would be a preferable match before I even met him. I knew quite a bit already about his practice and background.rnProfessionally, he is impressive.rnPersonally, I had read that, while he's certainly not unpleasant, he is more a scientist and offers less relationally. I know this is silly but I want it all----perfectly skilled surgeon and warm and fuzzy as well. I tend to be emotionally hypersensitive when in the whole medical model (Which is why I typically steer clear of it) and was concerned about vulnerability and depression.rnrnI met him and found him to be just delightful. Unassuming and humble, he was able to answer all of my questions. Frankly, if I'd have kept quiet I suspect I would have had no questions. He was already quite comprehensive in his explanations. He was practical in his assessments and, I felt that his extensive experience lent itself to the ability to make valid predictions regarding the 'success' I may expect to see. He was calm and casual and yet professional and reassuring. The reassurance I sensed had more to do with his countenance and reserve than his actual interaction. rnrnIn terms of his competence, I was particularly impressed by the fact that he transitioned from routine 'open' technique to nearly exclusive lap procedures. He has been in practice for many years and still, he avails himself to evolving as technology allows. Teachability is very attractive to me. His motivation for switching to a laproscopic technque (according to his answer to me) was patient outcome/recovery. Additionally, he claims he has a better vantage point (magnified images) with this procedure. I appreciated that his committment to patient well-being superceded the human tendancy toward resisting change. He had been doing these procedures one way for many years. Some doctors refuse to change what they know.rnrnAdditionally, his attention to detail and ready recall regarding another patient's statistics gave me the emotional peace I needed. He obviously has an interest in is patients or he wouldn't be so in touch with their specific outcomes. rnrnMy surgery is in three days so I will have more to contribute then but, I would HIGHLY recommend this surgeon. Not only do I believe he is skilled in his field but I am grateful that he left me more empowered than vulnerable.
