Met with Dr. Brolin today. I have gone to 1 of his support group meetings and saw how he was with his patients. He tells it like it is. He explained everything he will be doing.Answered all my ? from a 4 page sheet I had. His office staff was helpful and friendly. He went over my list of meds and said it would probably be cut down by 2/3 after I start losing weight. He told me the support group meets every 2 months. He explained the risks of surgery both immediate ones and long term ones. I feel he is very proffesional and likes his patients to be informed. He read all the paperwork I brought. His surgical competence is excellent he's been doing this for the last 18yrs and I like his bedside manner, straight and to the point. I feel I have made a wise choice to put my life into his hands. I was told he operates mon-thurs and sees pts. on Fridays.
Dr. Brolin at first seemed like a typical surgeon during my initial consultation. However, after I became a patient of his and had my surgery he was very informative and helpful during my healing and post-op period.
His staff was extremely helpful and pleasant with everything I needed.
My only critisism of him would be during the initial visits: I always had to be the one to keep in contact, but I guess that is understandable considering the amount of patients he has.
He is very skilled at this procedure, I know at least 3 people who went to him and the result were tremendous.
Dr. Brolin told me about the risks involved with the surgery, unfortunetly in my case the one problem that occurred with me, I was not aware of. You can ask me about that if you would like.
I would give Dr. Brolin a very high rating in regards to the surgery.
I feel that both his surgical competence and bedside manner were equally good.
I had my surgery 2/28/00. My first impression of Dr Brolin was he was very busy. The wait to see him is long. It took 3 mos to get my first appointment and then another 3 mos before I had surgery. Not to mention the wait in his waiting room. Now I love waiting in the waiting room because I get to hear everyone else's success stories. Ive now come to realize that his wait is so long because he really talks to his patients and answers all questions. I try to write my questions down ahead of time so that Im sure to get them all answered. I just went for my 4 week post op check (3/24) and was very shocked to find out that he doesnt want to see me until August!!! I couldnt even make an appointment because the receptionists books didnt go that far. I feel good and would reccomend this surgery to anyone (like me) who has tried everything and failed. You really cant fail with this.
I had my consult with Dr. Brolin on 08-18-00.
It took 3 1/2 months for a consult appointment.
I found Dr. Brolin to be a very serious and extremely professional surgeon.
He thoroughly explained in detail the different types of bariatric surgeries. There were no details left untouched. The benefits as well as the possible complications were addressed in full. Dr. Brolin gave me the chance to ask him all the questions I had written down and made me feel as though each question I asked was an intelligent one.
I also sat down with his nutritionist Lisa Bradley. She was a very warm and friendly person. She reviewed my current eating habits and lifestyle. She then explained to me a few of the changes I will have to make once I have the surgery. She was very informative and also was willing to answer any question I had.
My initial impression of Dr. Brolins is that he is a very serious and competent surgeon. He has a serious and professional personality. Lisa's warm friendly personality was a nice compliment to his seriousness.
I would recommend contacting the office early in the morning if you wish to speak to a real person and not a voice mail. This is the only area I personally did not care for when dealing with the office. The office staff is sometimes difficult and uncaring to deal with. I find this a small price to pay for a competant surgeon and a wonderful nutritionist.
Dr. Brolin is all business, very little small talk just questions and answers and facts. Office staff is pleasant and prompt. You are weighted and asked general health survey, you talk with the nutritionalist and give your diet history. The risked were fully explained and Dr. Brolin answered all my questions. This is serious surgery and I would rather have a doctor who i feel is surgical competent, rather than a doctor who thinks he`s a comic.
Scheduled for a consult on September 13th. I have not spoken to him directly, however his assistant is very nurturing and extremely helpful. It was very difficult getting through to his office, but she did call back within an hour of me leaving a message. Dr. Brolin is very busy, it took 3 months to get my consult.
very confident man , sure of his work and right tothe point i liked that the staff was more and still is more then helpful willing to answer ant questions i really did nt forma personal opinion im there to get the surgery and have it done properly dr andraei is also a great doctor he does at st peters his bossis doctor brolin. the after care ill be taking a part in after th 7th of sept they have monthly meetings and are more thanwilling to sit and answerany questions you ahve i would rate dr brolina nd dr andraei excellent therer is snot one complaint!!!
My first impression of Dr. Brolin was that he was a little on the funky side. He was really quite nice and took all of the time with me that I needed to have. I happen to know someone who had this type surgery performed 15 years ago by Dr. Brolin, so I was pretty much informed about what to expect. The office staff is extremely nice and extremely helpful. The person who weighs you & takes your blood pressure (I forget her name) can be somewhat short, but the way I look at it is that HEY...that's HER problem NOT mine! I met with Lisa & Gloria who are both so very caring and very very nice. At this moment I'm feeling quite comfortable with my decision to go ahead with this surgery. I'm not really scared or anything. In fact I'm pretty excited.
Dr. Brolin did my husband's open Rny distal
on 3/21/00. As of today he has lost 107lbs.
We didn't meet Dr. Brolin until AFTER my
husband's(Carl) surgery. Talk about blind faith,
he didnt research ANYTHING! Our family Dr.
told him where to go and he just did it no Quetions
and is doing well! Dr. Brolin has an impeccable
reputation. When we went to his initial consult
with a nurse? they asked who was having the surgery.
This was the first time I even realized this
could be a possibilty for me. I just assumed you
had to lose a couple hundred pounds to be eligible
So from that point I started my own research.
I went to all his future appts when I could. I met Dr.
Brolin at the hospital when he came out after
my husband's surgery. He was quiet, curt and right
to the point. At that point I was doubtful if I could
do this. Since then, I have been to all Carl's post-op appts.
and Dr. Brolin is really caring and concerned all the time.
I guess I was a little put off by his voice at first, its
very deep and a little monotonous. I was a somewhat intimidated.
But I am very impressed. He called me at home after my pre-
admission testing to answer some questions I had asked Gloria
(nurse practitioner). He called the next day left a message on
my answering machine and then called back the NEXT day again!. For a guy thats in surgery everyday
to call me personally- I was certain this was the Dr. for me.
My own family Dr. doesn't even call me in person!!
Only downside is the busy office. Appts. are only on fridays
and the wait can be very long BUT most of the time everyone is
comparing notes and stories. It doesnt seem
as long if you talk to everyone.
The nutritionist is on site, the support group is in place and
there is even a phone list of people to talk to if you are considering
and want to ask questions. I did. And I have to say that even
though the wait is long to get your initial appt. and surgery date, they helped
me with a great date 7/6/00 (cancellation) knowing my school schedule situation.A++
