I loved Dr Lin from the moment I saw his video. I feel the same way about his staff. Kathy and Denise always talk on the phone with a smile in their voices, and that makes such a difference! Aftercare is definitely stressed, as is thier desire for you to feel comfortable calling whenever you have a question. He fully addresses risk and lifestyle changes. I give Dr Lin and his staff a PERFECT 10 as far as pre and post op office visits go. My only regret is that we did not dicuss pain management pre-operatively. I found that for the first 24 hours I was way to out of it to be administering my morphine, and as a result was in a lot of pain. I would have asked for a steady dose of something.....andlesser morphine to self administer for atleast 24 hours out of surgery.
Dr.Lin was informative at my first visit and cautious. He was informative and gave me the pros and cons of this surgery. It was scary but important and necessary. Denise his nurse is outstanding in bedside mannerand has been so from day one. Dr. Lin performed an open RNY on me and I think I have the best looking scar in the land. My first impression of it was
"oh, it's so pretty". I'm so proud of him and his great skill. I wanted to live through this surgery and then reap the best results by following his instructions and exercising. That has happened and it's up to me to do the rest. He has done his part admirably. The residents who worked with him Drs. Evangalista and Iglesia were so nice to me and I felt so much warmth from them. Dr. Evangalista talked to me after the surgery and I felt like she really cared. Thanks so much to her and I thank God for each of these people who have made a difference in my life.
A Personal Note about Dr. Lin and Denise.
Dr.Lin is a very intelligent man with the gift of golden hands. He does his job with skilled perfection, and knowledge. I could not have lost this weight without him. Denise, is a wonderful lady, and I feel he has chosen her, because she adds so much quality to his before and after care programs. They are quite the team. Together, they can, and do, teach us the golden rules.
The rest is up to you. You have to take responsibility for their actions after the surgery. The other two important things I can tell you is to download fitday on your desktop, and use it every day as the golden rule. His instructions are very simple. The second most important thing is to log on to www.obesityhelp.com ..... You will find you are not alone in this journey, there are thousands of others out there with the same struggles you have. Remember Denise is only a phone call away to help you with any problems you have.
This surgery is not a miracle, but a tool, to use with your tools of everyday living. Remember where you came from, remember the pain of being obese, and the everyday struggles. Work with this tool, not around it. Dr. Lin and Denise, can only do so much and the rest is up to you. Remember what got you here in the first place, and then avoid the old habits, and good things will come to you. One thing that I have learned and never thought it applied to us, but if you think about it, It makes really good sense.
Once an alcholic always an alcholic, one a foodaholic always a foodaholic. The food demons as Joann puts it is always out there to tempt you, you have got to be smarter than they are, and strong enough to walk past them.
Dr. Lin and Denise, if you read this.... Thank You.. Val
Dr Lin was my surgeon for my Gastric Bypass Surgery on December 18, 2003. I can not ever say enough good things about him and his medical staff. Dr. Lin, was so caring and so thoughtful. He took every measure necessary to make my surgery a success. They have been very supportive in my after care and are very helpful in my day to day return to eating. I would rate a 100 on a scale of 1 to 10 and that includes his staff!
POST 2: OK, so I never posted after my first appointment. Dr. Lin is an amazing surgeon. He and his residents really looked after me in the hospital and there have been no complications so far, and only reasonable amounts of pain. He dropped by on a Saturday just to see me off. It was funny seeing him in his Bill Cosby like sweater after seeing him in the doctor coat all week. I really have nothing bad to say about Dr. Lin, but I'm just embarking on the post-op journey, so I'll update as I go along.
POST 1: I have my first appointment on April 7. I got the appointment through a friend (AKA my fairy godmother!). The lady with whom I spoke was very nice and it seems I will do some paperwork and watch a video and meet with Dr. Lin's staff for one hour and then have a chance to meet with the doctor. I read positive things about him on this forum which eases some of my anxiety. The lady (Cathy?) also told me that I should expect some information in the mail so I would know what to bring. Hopefully that will help speed up the insurance process. God, I really hope my insurance will cover at least some of it because I am BANKRUPT. My parents are willing to pay for some...but at 28, I just feel like I need to stop borrowing from them. Still, I need this, and as they pointed out, they just helped my sister and her boyfriend buy a hou...
I'll post again after the first appointment!
My first impression of Dr. Lin was great. He is a very professional, honest, and informative doctor. I just love him he is wonderful. His office staff was very personable. I love everything about Dr. Lin and I am extremely happy that I have him for my surgeon. He is very straight forward and I like that in a person and especially in my doctor. There was no uncertainity, he told me exactly what to expect, and what I have to do to get to my personal goal.
I MET DR. LIN ON 9/17 AND HE AND HIS OFFICE WERE AS COMPETENT AND CARING AS EVERYONE DESCRIBED. THEY WERE RUNNING BEHIND BUT LET US KNOW WHAT WAS GOING ON AND GAVE US INFO TO READ WHILE WE WAITED. THE REAL BLESSING WAS I HAD ALL MY INFO TOGETHER INCLUDING SURGICAL REFERRAL BEFORE GOING (KAISER) AND WAS ABLE TO GET A DATE SCHEDULED IN A MATTER OF DAYS. AND ACTUALLY PICKED THE DATE I WANTED. DR. LIN WAS VERY THOROUGH AND HIS NURSE DENISE WAS ALSO. THEY HAVE GREAT "BEDSIDE" MANNER AND I FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE WITH THEM.
I liked Dr. Lin. His staff is great too. They covered all the bases from the get go with videos, handouts, and honest answers to my questions.
He's obviously a busy guy since it took me 5 months to get an appointment, but once I got in the door, things moved as quickly as I wanted them to.
Denise, his PA, is very nice, well informed, and honest. His staff person, Kathy, who handles insurance, etc. is also great, knowledgeable, and sympathetic.
All in all, a good experience so far. Surgery is 8/5, so I'll update this after that.
