Paul Marino Professional Physician Assistant

Paul Marino came to Washington, DC in 1969 to attend Georgetown University. After earning his undergraduate degree at Georgetown, he then attended the Physician Assistant Program at George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences where he completed his training in 1979.  He began his career as a surgical PA at Capitol Hill Hospital and eventually became the coordinator of surgical PA services there, assisting in General, Orthopedic, GYN and Vascular surgery as well as providing peri-operative patient care for surgical inpatients. In 1989, he went into private practice, building on his experience in surgery with privileges at Capitol Hill Hospital (until it eventually closed) and the newly opened Reston Hospital, where he continues to maintain privileges to this day. In 2001, he completed training on the then, newly introduced, Lap Band surgical procedure as well as in the ongoing care for the Lap Band patient. He was instrumental in establishing a comprehensive weight loss program for both Advanced Weight Loss Solutions and later, Pinnar Surgical Associates. Because of his interest in bariatric surgery, in 2011 he completed training on Sleeve Gastrectomy and has worked extensively over the past twelve years helping bariatric surgery patients achieve their goals. Mr. Marino has over 30 years experience in all aspects of surgical patient care. Since 2001 his concentration has remained in the areas of General Surgery and Bariatric Surgery. He recently completed training as a first assistant in robotic surgery and single site robotic surgery.   Mr. Marino achieved his certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants in 1980 and has maintained it ever since, gaining special recognition in Surgery by the NCCPA in 1986 and again in 1992. In 2010, he accepted appointment to serve on the Advisory Board on Physician Assistants for the Virginia Board of Medicine. In that same year he was also recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. He is also a Fellow of the American Association of Surgical Physician Assistants and a member of the Virginia Academy of Physician Assistants, the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Virginia Medical Society.
