Dr. Paul Lin, on my first meeting, impressed me as a very smart doctor. You know, the kind of doctor that you know is thinking ahead and watching all the small details.

I was right, because on our second meeting, he advised me that he wanted a series of test done to make sure I would have success during and after my surgery. Due to my physical history of blood clots, he wanted me to get an intravenous filter. I found him to be cautious, but not to the point of paralysis. He is both compationate, confidant, professional and extremely compedent. Dr. Lin is very serious minded, with a "right to business" type personality.

Both Dr. Lin and his staff have provided me with the tools for success. I trust him with my life.

Prepare for long waits in the waiting room to see the Doctor.

Now, two weeks before surgery I was put on optifast to help shrink the fat around my liver. I was given all my perscriptions for pre and post op so that I wouldn't have to care for that at the 11th hour. I was educated on their aftercare support group.

I will have my surgery on May 2nd...more news to follow. But, thus far, Dr. Lin is phenominal and I am so fortunate to have him caring for me.

I just met with Dr. Lin and my first impression or him is I thought he was really nice. He talked with my husband and myself. He gave us straight eye contact and you can tell he has a lot of knowledge because of how he spoke with us. I have not had surgery yet but how Dr Lin was in his office I am assuming that his bedside manner is even better.

Dr. Lin is wonderful! From the first time I met him to discuss how he could help me loose weight I only gained respect for him.

His office staff is very caring, listening to your questions and concerns about what your going to go through. Everyone was so helpful with providing me information.

I would recommend Dr Lin. to anyone that is thinking about having Gastric Bypass Surgery.

1.) Kind, professional.

2.) Heard him speak at an OH forum in DC, Nov. 2004 and was amazed at the compassion and care and sensitivity he showed to each and every one who presented questions.
You can tell alot about a person as you watch how they treat people with obesity issues. He was gracious, patient and exceptionally kind. I knew that day he would be my surgeon.
3.) Denise, Dr. Lin's assistant is wonderful, caring and very willing to share information and instruction.Kathy in the office, is very friendly and supportive and effecient.
4.) No complaints at all
5.) Relax, you are in good hands here.
6.) Very much, lots of follow up appts. and a questionaire every visit to access how you are feeling emotionally and physically. never feel rushed and there are clear instructions of post-op eating phases and invitation for questions and clarification. Plus instructions in writing for easy reference. Phone numbers for access 24 hrs a day.
7.) Yes
8.) Asks if you are aware of the risks and discusses them and does not downplay that they can happen. Has you sign a statement that you understand the risks and have had them discussed with you to your understanding.
9.) Dr. Lin is first class. I felt safe and well cared for.
10.) Surgical competence 1st then bedside manner. Dr. Lin is not a warm fuzzy kind of person. However, after I personally observed him talking to pre- and post-op patients at the forum in DC 2004, I came to realize that his personality was kind and gracious, treating others with respect and honor. I saw in him the caring qualities I was looking for. I learned a valuable lesson : People who seem reserved and cool, can in fact, be very warm and caring as well as very competent.

My first impression of Dr. Lin was that he was very personable and seemed very concerned for his patients. He is very knowledgeable of the surgery and has been doing it for years. His office staff is very nice, especially Denise who is also very personable and knowledgable. He emphasized aftercare and the importance of taking care of yourself (taking supplements, not overeating, etc.) after surgery to prevent complications. He discussed all of the possible risks as well as the great outcomes from the surgery. I am truely pleased to have him as my surgeon. I feel very comfortable having him perform my procedure.

Dr. Lin was professional and understanding from our first meeting. He was willing to do the revision surgery I needed to have done. As the time went by my impression only improved. He personally telephoned me to let me know that the insurance company had denied the surgery which gave me time to get the appeal process going before they mailed a letter to me. I was denied on 12/13/04 and I had an appeal scheduled for 12/23/04 and an approval before the appeal on 12/22/04. I don't think there is anything I did not like about Dr. Lin we had disagreements as to when I could go home and I did not want a blood tranfusion. I did not like the 7:00 am rounds with his staff. This meant that the med-student was there at 6:00 am. The staff are very good and caring and responsive to you and your needs. The senior resident was upset about my extended stay and stated that I was massing up their length stay. Put she changed after the 2nd surgery. Being a teaching hospital you do have to deal with med-students, interns and residents, but since I have been in their position I under them and was willing to work with them but Dr. Lin always had the final say. Dr. Lin does his own surgery and not the residents. A resident did my surgery in 1982. I found this out when I went to see him for a brest procedure several years later. Future patients should know that he gives his all to ensure that you recover. I feel he is honest with you and is willing to answer your questions. He requires after care. Before he does the surgery you have to sign papers stating that you will follow his instruction and have a long term relationship with him and his staff. This was not a part of my gastric stapling surgery in 1982. He has a structured aftercare program. He was honest about the risks of surgery. We were both suprised when a second blockage was found, but he let me know that anytime you have abdomal surgery that problem can occur. I rate Dr. Lin excellent overall. I was difficult because of the problems that came after the revision surgery. Both were great. He was a great surgican and he was a comfort during those days when I wanted to go home. He came to me personally about the second surgery. He did not take no for an answer when I refused the blood transfusion. Being in the profession I know this was best for me. I do feel that He should have more imput from the Dietetic Staff. A dietitian visited me one day and when she found that I was Dr. Lin's patient she left. Being a dietitan my self and having had surgery patients should know that you can regain weight and they must learn to follow a diet and exercise. Over years the patients I see who have failed seem to think that the surgery was it and life goes own as usual. It does not and working with a dietitian can be helpful. Your life and eating habits must change.

My first impression of Dr. Lin was that he was very caring, warm personality.
Denise is wounderful person to work with. And Kathy is very careing person and is very easy to work with.
After care is marvlous. Dr. Lin was up front about all the risk of having the surgery nothing was held back he wants his parients to know all the facts about the pors and cons of having the weight loss surgery. I would recomend Dr. Lin to anyone that is searching to have this surgery.

Very good, Dr. Lin explained everything from the start.

It didn't

Excellent

It hard to get an appointment, but he has a Nurse Practitioner named Denise Johnstone, who I see most of the time, who is really good

that the hospital is a teaching place, so you always have a lot of interns looking, but that didn't matter to me.
I was adviced to get into a group in Baltimore were I live.

Dr. Lin's knows his work and is very informative. Although I have not seen him since my surgery, Denise is a very good assistant. His staff is always pleasant. They are meticulous with their aftercare maintenance. Dr. Lin left my painless and healthy.
