she was very nice, straight forward and very comfortable with my questions, which told me she knew what she was talking about.she had a diagram drawn out and the statistics listed she left very little room for doubt. her office is very nice and modern, the staff was great also. she is very frank and does not appear to be out for just money, if you dont play by her rules, you wont play. Its that simple. which is the way it should be with such a drastic decision in your life, if you arent willing to make a lifetime change you need to consider other options.
I liked my surgeon and the Bariactric Treatment centers very much. She explained the surgery in detail, there was a Nutritionist that explained about the changes in my diet. There was also people at the Bariactric Treatment Center that had already had the surgery, and I was able to see for myself there success. There was talk about risks for the surgery, but I had the same risk for my total weight before surgery. I really felt, that the surgery was my best choice. I had tried too often to loose weight other ways, and failed. The surgeon & the staff was wonderful. They informed me that you would have to get up after surgery and walk around, and you would have to cough, & take breathing treatments. They explained about the difference in my diet after surgery. Clear liquids, Solid Liquids, Soft Foods, and Foods to eat for healing. If I had to do it over again, I would still do it. The above statements was my personal experience, not everyone has the same opinions or share the same experience. I was basically in good health before surgury except for arthritis, depression, and some tireness. The aftercare program: I went for my postop appointment to remove stitches, I went back in 6 weeks, then 3 months. I go again in 12 months, which is coming up real soon. I was surprised at my 3mo visit, that I did not have to come in for weight checks, or anything unless I was experiencing any problems. I did have some problems with certain foods, everyone's body is different and reacts differently. I would get sick it I ate too fast, or ate to large a bite, certain textures of food would bother me. Again, I say even though I had a few problems they were manageable.
DR. CHOBAN IS VERY DIRECT AND TO THE POINT. I HAVE ONLY HAD ONE MEETING WITH HER, BUT WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH HER. SHE EXPLAINED THE PROCEDURE, AND ALSO WROTES ALL THE RISKS, MORTALITY RATES, PERCENTAGES OF COMPLICATIONS, PERCENT OF EXPECTED WT. LOSS, AND PERCENT OF EXPECTED WT. GAIN AFER ALL WT. IS LOST. SHE IS FRIENDLY AND WILL TAKE TIME TO TALK TO YOU AND ANSWER ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS (BUT SHE IS SO THOROUGH, I DOUBT YOU WILL HAVE ANY!).
Dr. Choban is a very nice person, very caring and willing to listen to you and answer your questions.
The staff when I went for my visit was very nice, when I would call after my consult to see where things were at I would get a little depressed with the delay in processing the paperwork but I know they have alot of patients and I just had to tell myself that I was not the only person out there with the same enthusiasm and excited by having the surgery.
I will have my pre-testing on 11-23-00, the day before Thanksgiving and will be advised on my aftercare, I was told a little with the initial consult.
Dr. Choban tells you all the risks and makes sure you understand what you are doing and that the surgery is a LIFETIME committment.
I would rate Dr. Choban at a 10 right now because she meet all of my expectations.
My first impression of Dr. Choban was wonderful, her, her staff, and clients were extremely helpful, kind, courteous and caring. She has been helpful in getting this whole journey going. I have not had to do much of anything.
Dr. choban seems to care about each and everyone of her pts. She answered any and all of my questions without hesitation and made me feel as though I was the only pt she had to care for.
Dr. Choban and the staff at BTC are great! They are always helpful and put for a great effort for their patients. Aftercare programs are stressed greatly. They are very aftercare specific: food, activity, recovery, exercise, etc.
She addressed the risks of surgery outright. A friend of mine is a doctor and she had some questions about higher risks of cancer to certain organs, etc. They were great questions to ask and I received quick and honest answers.
*Update* I am now 6 days post-op. I can't believe I have as little pain as I have. I have cut my pain meds to nearly nothing. There is no bruising or redness around my incision site - it is perfect. I go back on Tuesday 8/29 (2wks) for my first follow up. Hopefully I will be released to return to work! Everything in my experience has been great!
*Update* 9 weeks post-op. I'm 62lbs lighter! Everything went well, healing excellently and Dr. Choban is great as ever!
