Dr. Choban is a no nonsense, true professional and expert at this surgery. She and her team did a wonderful job with my surgery and I'm so thankful for that. She is very informative and is very upfront with you. I would recommend Dr. Choban in a heartbeat to anyone who is considering gastric bypass. My incision is minimal. She used the least space that she could..to ensure a smaller scar. Dr. Choban is very pleasant and very caring. And she's wonderfully thorough and awesome at easing your mind of any concerns you may have.
My first impression of my surgein was that she knew what she was doing and that she was a caring and very smart, experienced individual.rnI was right on all the above. I cannot begin to express how awesome my surgeon is. Her knowledge is incredible and I can she why everyone I talk to about her sayd she is the best. rnThe office staff works great w/ you, it does seem however they may be a little short handed at times but no complaints.rnI had no dislikes.rnFuture patients need to know that they are in perfect hands and that if they have a question that they feel may be stupid or silly- ask it because she never once made me feel like an idiot. rnShe very much emphasizes aftercare and makes you stick to the program.rnShe takes her time and explains numerous times the risks and benefits of the surgery and her staff does the same as well. rnI would rate my surgeon as the top of the heap and as far as I am concerned there are no others better. rnHer competence, bedside manner and all aspects are off the charts- no pun intended-.rn
Pat Choban is in Columbus, Ohio at Mt Carmel West. Mid Ohio Surgery Associates. Pat is one of Columbus, Ohio's leading bariatric surgeons. She performed the surgery along with Dr Philip Price, one of Columbus, Ohio's leading laporoscopic surgeons. Both were excellent!rnrnBariatric Co-Ordinator Wissy Webb was great as she has had weight-loss surgery and could answer a lot of questions plus she is an RN. Missy told me the ONLY doc she will let operate on her is Doctor Choban because she has also assisted her in surgery and knows what a \"tight ship\" she runs. That was very comforting to me.rnrnThe nurses were kind and wonderful. But don't assume a man or woman in scrubs is a doctor or nurse. Apparently, Mt Carmel cleaning staff alows the janitors to dress up like doctors and nurses too. rnrnThere were a lot of scary talks with Missy about coming home on blood-thinners for a month and how to avoid blood clots and strokes by walking early and often and staying hydrated. We were given Spirometers in which to breath so we would not develop pneumonia. Some of this was a little disconcerting, thinking about as I was going into surgery but now that it is over, I am glad they took things seriously. While the procedure is simple and nearly painless afterwards, surgery on fat patients has it's risks , so you might as well know them. :)rnrnDoc Choban was friendly and positive and completely accessible for questions or concerns, which she addressed quickly (calling in different meds, problem solving, etc)rnrnA simple Google of Doctor Choban will show she has the highest surgical credentials, graduating Medical School from Case Western Reserve Med School....was a Naval Surgeon and has been on bariatric surgery advisory boards from the get-go. She was part of the team that first declined use of the Lap Band in the US because of lack of proper studies and trials. She was also on the board which fnally approved the Lap Band in the US several years later and after numerous successful studies and trials.
I really like Dr. Choban. She is no nonsense and extremely thoughtful. She read my file cover to cover before coming to meet me and she took the time to read every single detail in there (and there were a lot). She knew about my father passing away as a result of complications days after his gastric bypass three years ago. She was concerned about how my family was feeling about my surgery. She was comforting and supportive.
She is very knowledgable and skilled.
The office staff is nice. BUT, impossible to get ahold of. The bariatric patients seem to be on the back burner. You pay an administrative fee to have paper work taken care of and it is done very poorly. It takes forever to have anything done. I don't know if that is due to the volume of patients or the disorginazition of the staff. Her assistant is very nice and she is very precise and no non-cense.
There is a great emphasis on after care. They have a support group for all patients to go to and a dietician for all patients. It is very structured and tailored to meet the needs for each individual patient.
She completely addressed all the risks and benenfits of surgery. I was impressed with the knowledge and honesty of this physician. It is very refreshing.
Overall, I think she is great. I would recommend her highly. I feel surgical competence is better. Most surgeons are VERY busy and do not have for nicey nicey stuff. That is what their staff is for. They need to focus on their skills. I would rather have a surgeon who is highly skilled and luke warm, than a surgeon who is warm and fuzzy and below par or average.
She is great and knows her stuff. I knew when she was taking care of me that I had the best and I wouldn't have hed this surgery with anyone else doing it. My impression never changed. I would fly anywhere she is to get her help. Her office staff was tops! They made you feel so comfortable.. I was able to ask anything. There was nothing to dislike except I can't find her now. She moved on :( Patients should know about Dr Patricia Choban ..she cares and is right on top of what ever your own personal needs are. She makes you KNOW she is right there for you!! She makes sure before surgery you know every step that is to come. There were no surprises. Her staff and she herself made sure you were right in step with the aftercare program. She was straight forward with the risks. Dr Choban isn't GOD.. so she has no way of preparing us %100 of what can happen. She is rated tops with everyone I have ever spoken to. Bedside manner... BOTH are just as important. She doesn't have to try. it comes naturally. She is the BEST!
I loved Dr Choban from the very start. She was very knowlegeable, answered all my questions, took her time with me and did not make me feel like I was just another buck for her. Dr Choban has excellant bed side manners and wants to make sure that you have all the information you need to make your recovery easy. Unfortuately Dr Choban stopped practice when I was 2 weeks post op. I am not sure why this occurred, but it did so suddenly and I was informed by letter from the facility. I have since tried searching for her but am only told that she is planning to teach at a local hospital. I know she will make an excellant teacher in the field as she is an excellant surgeon. My follow up care is being handled by Dr. V at the Baratric Center. He is nice enough in person, but he did not do my surgery and its felt that way when I call in and he has to call me back. There is just that flavor of my being someone elses patient that he has to take care of. Overall my surgery experience has been good. I have no problems with pain or vomiting that some post ops do. I have always been able to eat most foods without any problems. I had terrible pain post op but a lot could have been because of my age, etc. and the fact that I had open RNY which is pretty invasive. Overall, good experience... I would just like to find Dr Choban to continue my aftercare with her although that is pretty much over now that I am 11 months out. Although I do not know why Dr Choban is no longer around or the specifics of why she is gone I felt she had an obligation to fullfill when she took me on as a patient and she should have notified her patients. I don't know legally if that was an option, but it should have been if it wasn't.
