she was friendly and straight forward
I still think she is the best
the staff is very nice
I wish she could spend a little more time talking to you on your visits.
If you don't like complete honesty than she's not for you.
It is imparetive to do aftercare for you and her.
you pretty well know the schedual after your pre-op.
she lets you know what all the dangers are going in so that there are no suprises.
In my opinion I wanted the best doctor for my surgery and that is exactly what I got.
bedside manner is nice but surgical competence is by far the most important but with Dr. Choban I feel you get both.
My impression Of Dr. C was average. She seems very competent. She claims to have done over 5000 surgeries. I feel I'm in the best hands possible for this surgery. I would never think about having surgery in a "regular" hospital. The BTC is definately for me. Oversized chairs, beds, large blood pressure cuffs, etc...I'm very excited.
So far I have only been able to meet with Dr. Choban once at the Bariatric Treatment Center in Grive City, OH. She seemed to be very knowledgeable. She claims to have done over 5000 surgeries. Whether or not those are all gastric bypass surgies I do not know. I feel confident in her skills through all the research that I have done.
VERY knowledgable and personable... made me feel like a real person rather than a "fat" person :-)
The staff has been very helpful and nice. I wish things could be a little faster, but that's not on part of them...just on the part of my impatience.
The aftercare is stressed through BTC, and is a very large part of the overall process.
Dr. Choban has a GREAT bedside manner and surgical knowledge!
I was extremely impressed with Dr. Choban. She is a great lady -- took all the time needed to answer questions that my mother and I had.
The staff at the BTC office is great, they are very friendly. To future patients, BTC IS VERY BUSY! Do not hesitate to follow up regularly with them regarding status of paperwork, etc.
My first impression of Dr. Choban was neutral. I had driven 2.5 hours to get to my consultation. It had been scheduled for 8:00. I didn't get in until 11:30. So, I was not a happy camper. However, she seemed very competent, experienced, and open.
Impression changed: She is a good surgeon, and has good taste in books.
Have never dealt with her office staff. Staff at BTC clinic were fine.
Liked least: Waiting 2.5 hours past my appointment.
You won't see much of her while at hospital. She is matter of fact; but sincere in her care.
Aftercare pretty much is routine thing for Bariatric Treatment Center. They have it down to a science - and just put you through the channels or stages.
Addressed the surgical risks: 1 in 100 chance of death while in surgery. About 23% chance of post op hernia. Higher than normal chance of gallstones post op. Very candid discussion. (Also followed a format on a flip chart that I think is probably used over and over for BTC patients - but if you listen, they have done it so often, they don't really miss much and answer your questions).
Scale of 1 to 10 I'd rate her an 8. Very pleasant woman, I appreciated her direct answers. A point off perfect for the very lateness- both at my consult and day of surgery (I was told to be there at 7:30 for 8:00 surgery; went to pre op at 9:00). Another point off a perfect 10, because I thought in a Private Hospital I would see more of her. Granted, I was on such strong meds the first couple of days, she may have seen more of me than I of her. I still give her an 8.
Surgical Competence. Office manner is good. Only remember seeing her once at bedside. I would recommend her to anyone. Looking at the big picture, her experience is SO important.
March 8, 2001: My consultation was today and Dr. Choban was great. I felt very comfortable with her and she appeared very caring and knowledgable. Her staff at BTC was very friendly and helpful. Dr. Choban drew a diagram and explained the procedure, the risks, complications, and a general idea of what I will need to do after the surgery. I was at BTC for approximately three (3) hours and I visited with Dr. Choban and a very nice lady that had went through the surgery. I look forward to Dr. Choban doing my surgery. Dr Choban visited me daily in the hospital and I very much recommend her to anyone who is thinking about havine WLS.
Liked her from the first time I meet with her in Columbus on Jan. 11, 2001. She answered all my questions plus some. The surgery was exactly as described and so far no problems at all. The BTC was the best place by far to get this surgery. Everyone there is having the same type of surgery and very understanding. Staff was compassionate and caring.
