Patricia Choban Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Choban was very friendly and forthright about the surgery and her ten year history with it. She began doing this at Ohio State University Hospital and was hired at BTC two years ago. I think she truly enjoys what she does and she told me that it is very gratifying to be able to do something necessary for people who aprreciate it.
She fully explained the risks and didn't try to sugarcoat them. She emphasized the fact that this is not a cure but a too! I feel she is the best surgeon I could have for this surgery because she listened to my questions and concerns and was straightforward in a friendly way.
The office was pretty busy the day I was there and I was able to interact with post-ops. A mother of one of the post-ops was not a big proponent of the surgery and she was allowed to voice her opinion of it. The staff was caring even though they were busy.
Dr. Choban apologized for running behind schedule, even though I didn't realize it. So, if there is one negative about her it must be that. If it means she is taking her time with each person and answering their concerns, then I can forgive her for it.

Hi, my name is Jodi. I finally got to meet my "soon to be surgeon", Dr. Choban. My first impression was "WOW" how comfortable is this? From the minute she walked into the room and spoke her first words, I was as comfortable as I had hoped I'd be.
The office staff at The Bariatric Treatment Center of Grove City treated me with kindness and respect.I did not have to wait a long time to be seen by Dr. Choban,and was comfortable while waiting.
Dr.Choban explained the emphasize on aftercare, and how it would continue for the rest of my life. She also explained their program that seemed very structured.She went over all the risks of the surgery, and answered all my questions. ( my step mother is a nurse, as well as my sister in law, and they both had several questions that I had not thought of.)
All my statements written here about The Bariatric Treatment Center & Dr. Choban are strickly my personal opinions, and are based on my experience only. Someone other than myself may experience other situations.
Over all as first impressions go, Dr. Choban would get a rating of a nine.( because no one is perfect) Although as comfortable as she made me feel and as sure as a felt I was making the right decision after I left,I couldn't of asked for a better consultation. Thank you Dr. Choban!

Dr. Choban is very knowledgable about the procedure. My sister accompanied me at my consult on 2/99, she flooded doc with question after question after question. Dr. Choban answere our questions patiently and to our satisfaction. I was very comfortable with having her as my surgeon. Well qualified and experieced in the WLS field.

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest, I would rate Dr. Choban a 9.8. No one is absolutely perfect except for God!!

Dr. Choban was very informative. Explained the benefits and the risks. Over time, I respected her more because of the personal follow-up she did. Her staff at the Bariatric Treatment Center was very friendly. More importantly the staff at the hospital was so accommodating. Except for the fact the I was in pain and couldn't have anything to eat, I thought I was at a 5-star hotel. She was very imfatic about changing the way I ate. She impressed the importance of follow-up care. She impressed the importance of following the program details verbatim. I did extensive research concerning this surgery and the surgeons who perform the surgery. Dr. Choban has been doing this surgery for several years and her success rate is very high. She is certified to perform this surgery, and basically, its all she does. She has dedicated her life to helping the obese. Amen!!!! Her bedside manner, her surgical competency and her overall attitude toward her patients is commendable. I highly recommend her to anyone in my area seeking this type of treatment.

She seems pretty confident of her abilities, and her track record bears that out.
Some of her responses to my questions seemed a bit odd considering what I'd read while researching the surgery as well as post-surgery experiences, but she IS the surgeon, right...?

The office staff were pleasant enough, though the patient counselor who followed Dr. Choban during my initial consultation was little more than a walking slogan mill. Oy vey.

Aftercare provisions seem to be more than sufficient to address possible complications and problems.

SHE WAS NICE AND VERY INFORMATIVE. SHE IS VERY MUCH TO THE POINT. SHE DOES NOT BEAT AROUND THE BUSH. I LIKED HER BUT I DIDENT LIKE HER. THE ONLY REASON I DID NOT LIKE HER WAS BECAUSE SHE TOLD ME I HAD TO QUIT SMOKING OR SHE WOULDNT DO THE SURGERY. AT THE TIME I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO HAVE TOLD HER TO SCREW OFF BUT I HAVE NOT SMOKED IN SIX MONTHS AND I FEEL ALOT BETTER AND I THANK HER FOR IT.

Dr. Choban seems to be very professional, confident and knowledgable about the surgery she does -- which is the open RNY. When asking her about the surgery, some of her answers surprised me, as they were the polar opposite of what I was told to expect by others. However, her record speaks for herself, and I have complete confidence that she knows what she's talking about. The office staff seemed friendly, but very busy. My only complaint is that since I had my consult at the same time as my husband, I felt we were a bit rushed. She did explain all the aspects of the surgery and what to expect realistically afterwards.

Dr. Choban was wonderful very kind and doesnt give you the doctor/patient feeling more of friend to friend relationship.The more I seen of Dr.Choban the more I liked her.Definitly go to Dr.Choban everyone there is wonderful office staff makes you feel like family. Everything about Dr.Choban was just great nothing negative to say.Dr. Choban was/is a great doctor I am very glad that I chose her to take care of my surgical needs.

I had my initial consultation with Dr. Choban yesterday. I thought she was absolutely wonderful! She was very friendly and down to earth, yet professional and incredibly knowledgable. She spent a really long time with us (my husband and I both need surgery) explaining everything and answering all of our questions. She also went over our medical histories. On a scale of 1-10, Dr. Choban is off the scale. I would give her at least an 11. The office staff was also very friendly and efficient. The Bariatric Treatment Center has a great aftercare program. She said that they want to see us for the rest of our lives. We both left there feeling so confident that we have chosen the best surgeon and facility.

I am still fighting with the insurance company but hopefully my pcp can get this approved. If so, I'd like to go to Dr. Choban. I've heard so many good things about her.
