Dr. Lutrzykowski put me and my inlaws at ease from the get go. He didn't candy coat anything and explained the DS to my inlaws who were a little leery about WLS. His office staff are amazing and very helpful!! They all really know their stuff and believe in the DS, which is important. I am so very happy with my choice of surgeon. I feel I am in competent hands with Dr. L!!
When l first met Dr. Lutrzykowski, l was very uncomfortable walking into his private office. His head was down reading my chart and never acknowledged me for several minutes. rnrnThat literally threw me off as to how unprofessional he was. He questioned me about my knowledge of this surgery and the severity and the danger of this procedure.rnrnI left his office feeling depressed and severley let down. I was to loose 20 lbs before he would give me a surgery date. He gave me a date of the middle of September, to show him l was serious about my decision.rnrnAfter he checked me over, he agreed that l was a good candidate for this procedure and that l still needed to loose some of my weight prior to my surgery. Which l have done. I am scheduled for surgery Thursday September 7th 2006, and l am very glad Dr. Lutrzykowski challanged me to take inventory of my self worth and challanged me to see if l am truly committed to loosing this weight.rnrnMy faith in him is unlimited and strong, moreso after our initial visit. He has made rnme look at myself in a way that no other doctor, specialist, has, for that, l am truly grateful and 18 lbs lighter then l was 3 weeks before.rnrnI am sure come the end of this procedure, l will grow to love and honour this man for what he has done for me and my new life.rnrnWe will keep you posted and updated on my furture progress. So many patients love him, my turn is coming.rnrnSharon M.
My first impression of Dr. L was that he was very caring, very knowledgeable, and very patient. As time went by, that impression simply became more emphatic. He and his staff are excellent...very caring and very calming. I feel that future patients of Dr. L should feel very confident. I personally don't feel there is a better DS surgeon. He does stress aftercare a lot. His aftercare program is very structured. (Although it didn't apply to me as much since I am in Canada. He did, however, give me specific instructions and I will still be followed by him...it will just be on a semi-annual basis.) Dr. L was very straightforward about the risks of the surgery, which I must admit were very scary. His surgical competence is excellent, and his bedside manner couldn't be better in my opinion.
Friendly and concerned. Office staff is great and very helpful. Dr. L is a busy man and it shows. He makes sure you understand everything and have an oppertunity to ask whatever you need to, but he tends to run late for appointments and I have felt rushed on one occation. His aftercare program is one of the most strict I have heard of but also very effective. He thouroughly discusses the risks with you. I would rate him a 9.5 out of 10. His bedside manner is great and up beat, he doesn't want you to think the worst and feel like that is what is happeneing, but he does give you all the facts point blank. He is straight forward and genuinely concerned.
Dr. L was not a flashy guy ... just down-to-earth and straight-forward about the surgery. He has specialized in the Duodenal Switch and is a big believer in this specific operation. I feel comfortable knowing he will be my surgeon. Looking forward to surgery day!
FYI, I've learned that Dr. L has lost three patients in all his years of surgery. That means his death rate is about 0.5%, well below the average among surgeons performing the open DS.
2001 or 2002:
Weighing 450, and so very eager and ready to have surgery like NOW, I met with Dr. Lutrzykowski. His approach to weight surgery made the most sense to me during my research. It combined the RNY with duodenal sectioning. [shortening the duodenum]
He was friendly, professional, and had a very strong surgical record.
However, I left his office so very depressed, as I was told I had to loose 50 pounds to get to 400 before he/hospital would do the surgery.
I have since gained another 75.
As of 2004, I was up to 525.
I got down to 486 later in the year and now in 2005 I am stressed and back up to 515.
I like that Dr Lutrzykowski is very honest! If he is asked a question, he explains in detail. The more I see of him, the more I feel comfortable with him doing my surgery. The office staff is very accomodating and helpful. Dr Lutrzykowski's after care is very important, so much so that he requires you to sign a form stating that you will pay the support group fee and attend the sessions. Dr Lutrzykowski went over the risks very thoroughly. I would rate Dr Lutrzykowski the absolute best doctor around. He makes you feel that you can ask him anything and you are on his level.
I first met dr lutrzykowski in 2002 when my mother went to him to have her surgery. I was very skeptical of all this because I wasnt familiar with this type of surgery at all. After seeing how well she did with her surgery and how wonderful of a dr he was there wasnt a doubt in my mind that i wanted to do it. Dr. Lutrzkowski's office staff are wonderful and very helpful. Dr. Lutrzkowski has support meetings that he runs every other monday at st joe hospital in pontiac. He likes all his patients new and old to come to the meetings. He told me the risks of this surgery several times, I had no doubt in picking him for my surgeon. He also did my hernia repair this past august and was awesome then too.
