- My first impressions of Dr. L were great. His office, his staff, and himself are very warm and open. The first visit with him was amazing as we went through everything. He went over the surgery in major details, along with my health/family history. Not once did I feel rushed or like it was a factory office, like most DR office's are now-a-days. He's very direct and to the point about most of the topics you talk to him about, which is great. He made both me and my Mother feel completely at east and like I made the right decision in picking him as my surgeon. During the surgery process nothing happened that he hadn't warmed or prepared me for! He is amazing with is aftercare, and really takes the time to know each and everyone of his patients. I couldn't have asked for a better surgeon!!!!

Dr Lou is the greatest doctor ever. He answers every question, explains in detail all you need to know and will never rush you off to move on to the next person.
He is not just concerned with making money from weight loss surgery and doing a "quick fix." He is concerned with your long term process and wants to make sure you will be successful for life.
He's saved my life twice. Once when he performed my weight loss in 2003 which resulted in me going from over 650 pounds to and average weight of 260, and then again 2007 when I had a bowel problem from the scaring from the original surgery. Something we knew there was a slight chance of happening because I was so big. However Dr. Lou had already explained that to me up front, so to me the risk was worth it.
The scond time he saved my life he was actually getting on a plane with his family to go on vacation when he got the call that I was in serious trouble and that there was some "other" doctor that was going to perform surgery upon me.
Dr. Lou would have none of that, he immediately got his family off the plane, rushed to the hospital and then performed the surgery on me and saved my life. After he made sure I was ok the next day and out of danger, he got the family on the plane and they went on vacation. Even then he called everyday to make sure I was doing fine.
There are not many doctors who would have done something like that, and to this day, I only know of one. Dr Lou.
I encourage anyone who is seriously obese and wants to save thier life, to contact Dr. Lou immediately. You wont be sorry at all, you'll just wish you had called him eariler!

BELOW REVIEW IS FOR MY 2ND SURGERY: DS W/MAREK LUTRZYKOWSKI IN BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MI IN DEC 2009rnrnStay tuned for review. rnrnBELOW REVIEW IS FOR MY 1ST SURGERY: LAPBAND W/FAROUK OBEID IN FLINT, MI IN FEB 2007rnrn1st ImpressionrnHe was really caring; almost fatherly. In fact, he said I reminded him of his daughter.rnrnImpression Change....Y/N?rnNo, it pretty much stayed the same over the last year.rnrnOffice StaffrnThe office staff is very friendly and seem to really care about their patients. I just wish they'd close the glass when talking about specifics. :-)rnrnLeast LikernThat he was overweight. I wondered how he could do this surgery for others but not on himself. Just puzzled me.rnrnFuture Patients Should KnowrnHe's fantastic. He really cares about you and how you'll do. He's honest and will do excellent follow up care. He even cornered my husband in the waiting room to give him the run down like he gave me just so someone else would know and hold me accountable...LOL.rnrnAftercarernMentioned above. Follows through. Not necessarily structured but you do what you want when you feel like it. If you are ready for a fill you'll know or you could call and ask and they'd advice. There's no set schedule for things though (after the initial 6 weeks anyway).rnrnRate OverallrnA++ He's a great surgeon who was honest and straight forward. He was very caring. He didn't act as though he'd done another million just like you. Very fatherly which I liked.rnrnBeside Manner & Surgical CompetencernBoth are great! I just don't have anything bad to say. My experience has been very positive thus far.
The first min. I met DR.L I thought this guy scares me. It didn't take long to figure out he was and is very serious and confident in what he does and he wanted me to be and feel the same way. The office staff made me feel like they knew me for yrs. DR.L is always available for phone calls or e-mails. I am very comfortable with my after care. DR.L puts it all out there as to the risk of the surgery. I love DR.L Yeah!! His surgical skills are over the top , his bedside manner not so much but I would not have changed a thing .
Hi Therernrn I was a patient of Dr. L and had the duodenal switch performed in April 2007 and now 2 years later I have lost a total of 247 lbs. I still have a complication. A gastric leak. It is so frustrating trying to get care here in Canada. They pay for the surgery to be done in the states but will not send you back if needed. No one knows what to do with me and I presently wear a drainage bag, draining the fluid out of my body. I have had numerous abcesses, distended bowels, colon, infections, you name it. I am pleased with the surgery, I would not of lost the weight otherwise. Dr. L is a fantastic surgeon and is very good at what he does. We are aware of the possible side effects and accept it readily, because we think it will never happen to us. But, it does. I still do not regret anything. I get asked this all of the time. I am looking forward to talking with Dr. L and see if he can assist me in my complication?
Dr L was very nice during our first meeting and the office staff have been very helpful through out the procedure.
My next meeting with Dr L was the pre op appointment. He took myself and another girl scheduled for the same day in together with our family members. I thought this was a great way to do this as we both had different questions and concerns so you end up gaining more information. I found him very thorough in his explainations of all the details.
After the surgery he came to the hospital every morning and checked on my progress and told me exactly what would happen that day. Several of the nurses in the hospital told me Dr L was very particular and paid great attention to detail, I think that is a great quality for a surgeon to have. I found Dr L to be very focused, organized and serious about what was required before surgery and after surgery.
I was very happy with my decision to have Dr L as my surgeon and would highly reccommend him.
I can't tell you how much this man means to me. He gave me a chance at a life back and for that, he will forever be in my heart. He is an extremely skilled surgeon and very caring human being. He put me at ease right away, and was wonderful with my son and mother as well, reassuring them at every step of the journey on surgery day and beyond. His office staff is wonderful as well, Julie and Elizabeth are always ready and willing to help with anything you need, and they always have a smile for you! If you are considering the DS as your choice for WLS, I would highly recommend Dr. L!

I was early for my consult with Dr. L, I mean really early 3 hours early, but it gave me an opportunity to see the office staff and how they interact/react with people at different stages. I was floored at how nice they are, and how comfortable they made me feel. Dr. L, well he is this quiet gentle smiling soul that made me feel at ease and told me what I needed to hear, and made something that was very important to me , so very possible, attainable, and all the more desired.
