My first impression of Dr Houston was man he is skinny, how will he ever understand what I am going through and understand what I need. You look to the Doctor as sort of a
savior when you have tried everything and your back is finally against the wall.As I continue through my journey I find that he knows his stuff (That is obvious because I chose him as my surgeon)but on another level,I feel he really loves what he does. How many Doctors do you know that participate in things like walks for cures and is involved so closely with their patients that he even reads their e-mails?His office staff also reflects his positive attitude. No one ever tried to make any part of this surgery sound simple and I like that, don't sugar coat it tell me the truth, and that is what I got.Although I have my rough times,I would do it all over again tomorrow.
My first impression of Dr Houston was one of
sincerity and compasion,kindness and concern
about people that maybe don't always have the
kind of insurance that he takes. At least in my case this is what happened.I was really at my last chance to find someone to do this
lap band surgery for me or at least it seemed that way until i sent Dr Houston a email and to my surprise he answered me back with in a day or two.He told me at this point to have my tenncare case manager call his office and that is what i did and the rest is i was approved within a couple days
and had an appt. in two weeks and a surgery date in 3 weeks.Thank God that thier are still Dr's that are careing and really want to help people like me and so many others that are obese.
My feeling's are still the same.
Well so far i have only seen Holly and she is really great. Then i saw the dietician at the office that explanied everything about the post-op diet.
Yes they have a very good aftercare program
Dr Houston made everything clear about the risks of this surgery.
As an excellant careing and very knowledgeable surgeon and person.
I first came into contact with Dr. Houston at a Seminar held by Centennial Treatment Center for Obesity. My first impression was that he was very strict, hard-nosed and straight-to-the-point. After meeting with Dr. Houston, I realized that my first impression of him was somewhat correct, but for good reason. This is a life-changing surgery; and because of its implications, Dr. Houston refuses to let anyone not take it seriously. I would not have it any other way, though. Since this is where my doctor's passion lies, he personally fought for me with my insurance company, who had already denied me through two previous appeals processes. Additionally, while I was in the hospital post-op, he got out of bed in the middle of the night to come to my aid when the nurses thought I might have developed complications. Although it was a false alarm, and only a touch of pneumonia, Dr. Houston stayed at the hospital through the night until the tests came back confirming this.
During my extensive research of WLS, I attended several seminars with different surgeons and programs; and I truly believe that I found the best. Dr. Houston was upfront about the risks invoved with the surgery; but also put me at ease with my decision to go forward with it. Post-op, he is very adamant about his patients strictly following the aftercare program, because he wants each and every one of us to get as much out of this precious tool as possible. I had my surgery a little over three months ago, and haven't regretted one minute of doing so. I have to say, that despite my initial impression, Dr. Houston is a surgeon who genuinely cares about his patients and what he is doing to help change their lives.
Honestly, I had not known anyone personally who was a patient of Dr Houston. I just had a friend who had WLS (Roux-en-Y) by Dr Dyer and she liked him, but said he was very serious and doesn't have the bedside manner. She told me she met Dr Houston while she was in the hospital and thought he was nice and really handsome, so of course I chose him.
My first impression was indeed he is HOT (hehehe), but then as he introduced himself, he was very friendly and inquisitive, unlike some doctors that are ready to get you in and out as quickly as possible. I noticed he was staring at me up and down throughout the conversation. I don't know why. I thought maybe he was getting an idea of my weight or maybe wondering if I was obese enough (since I am just at the 100 lb mark). He asked me how I heard about him, what surgery I wanted, if I understood this was a life long comittment, etc, etc. He went over all the post op requirements and even the possible complications and showed me the diagram of the surgery. His nurse was super sweet. I would rate him and his office 8 for now.
He was very intelligent and actually spent a great deal of time explaining everything I could expect prior to and after surgery. His office staff was very friendly and helpful. Dr. Houston is the only doctor at Centennial in Nashville that does the RN-Y laproscopicaly without putting any drains or feed tubes in, and that was what had me pick him over the other surgeons to begin with. He also stresses the importance of aftercare and support groups. All of the doctors at Centennial participate in a highly structured aftercare program. He covered all the risks involved very well. I would recommend him to anyone considering weight loss surgery. He is very competent surgically and has a good bedside manner to boot.
Dr. Houston was very professional and understanding. He made me feel comfortable. I have read other comments on his blue eyes his eyes where green when I saw him he had a green tie on and his eyes reflected that color.
His staff where efficient and made me feel at home.
Dr. Houston explained the surgery and want to except at the hospital before surgery and after surgery. They give you a manual take home and read it is very informtive. They incourage you to ask questions on anything you don't understand.
You are setup with a nutritional class with the dietician before the surgery to learn about how to eat and deal with new eating habits.
I liked him. He was recommended by a friend.
Still feel the same about him. His nurse is great. The dietition was great too. They have stressed that I will need a lifetime of after care. They offer great after care options.
I understand the risks of the surgery but I also understand the risks if I don't have the surgery.
Cannot rate at this point. Get back to you on that one. :)
Dr. Houston is great. He doesn't use Drain tubes and has you up walking the same day.Very professional.
I highly recommend him.
