I first met Dr. Houston at a seminar. He impressed me then but I was more impressed when I had my consultation. He described everything in detail and answered all my questions. My surgery is going to be more difficult because of 7 previous hernia surgeries and possible adhesions. He was undaunted by the fact that it would be more difficult. He said it might take 6-8 hours to do but acted like it was no big deal. I like his confidence. I have "checked him out" and found that he has excellent credentials. All of the posts I have found from previous patients were excellent. He is one of a few surgeons who does lap revisions. Revisions are difficult and require more skill; a lot of surgeons will not do them - but Dr. Houston will! Right now I give him a 20 out of 10. Will let you know more after surgery!

8/31/04 Am 6 days post-op and must tell you all that I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Houston in a minute. Mine was a very difficult case and he handled it with no problems. No infection, no leaks, minimal soreness, no nausea or vomiting. Everything positive. He is VERY competent. I think I'll give him a 25 out of 10 now. Just can't say enough good things about him.

My first impressions of Dr. Houston were positive. He seems to be very talented and knowledgeable about bariatric surgery. He spent over an hour with me during the consultation going back and forth between bypass surgery and the lap band. He was very patient and seemed to understand the seriouness that the patient has when considering choices that can be not only life threatening but also life changing for the positive. He emphasized the aftercare routines and has programs available that are up and running to help with this. Dr. Houston was recommended to me by a life long friend that had the surgery in June. After speaking to my friend about the surgery and going to the seminar, you soon see that you are becoming a member of a larger family of folks going through the same things that you are and that understand the frustrations. I think that we could even start our own aftercare or support program here, which is 90 miles of Nashville. On the part of rating Dr. Houston, I am betting my life and future that he is a 10.

My husband and I both went to my appointment, we were very impressed with Dr. Houston. He also spoke at the seminar we attended. Everyone was extremely nice and had some helpful information. The seminar at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN is awsome. If you have the ability to attend one please do so. All you need to do is contact the Weight Loss Center at Centennial and they will get you to the person that schedules the seminar. The visit to the office was great. Holly is Dr. Houston's nurse, and she is terrific. I really enjoyed talking to her. She has also been helpful answering questions when I had to call the office about something. Holly explained the program to us, honestly it is the most organized and extensive program I have found. They have incorporated the nutritional and psychological aspects of the aftercare. The offer group meeting for both areas, and insist that you attend at least once a month. They are very informative, and offer alot of support also. I can't rate Dr. Houston as a physician as of yet, but give me a few weeks and I will get back to that part. I have confidence in him and I know he was trained by a very good group of surgeons at Vanderbilt. He has a great bedside manner, and I am hoping for surgical competence, in the best way. It is important to trust your physician, that is hard to do if he has the personallity of a dead frog. So be sure and take that into consideration. Look for someone personable, it will make a difference.

Dr. Houston came highly recommended from a good friend. Dr. Houston is very well trained and extremely competent. I felt very comfortable with him from our first meeting. He took the time to answer the many questions that I had, and I was very impressed with his explanation as to why he choose to specialize in bariatric surgery. He is very committed to make sure one fully understands the procedure and that he expects to have you comply with lifetime follow-up.

I feel that I could not have made a better choice in a surgeon. I'm two weeks post-op and my experience thus far has been very amazing since discharge.

Cannot say enough about Dr. Houston.

Dr. Houston was very easy to talk to and answered all my questions. He was very knowledgable and confident in his abilities which I found to be reassuring before surgery. After surgery I realized why. He is very attenative which is unusual in this day and time for a surgeon. The day I had surgery (May 10, 2004) my wife and my family saw him 4 times. He met with them before the surgery and came and talked with them twice afterwards. Then once I was in my room, he came up and checked on me again. We were very well prepared for the surgeon in terms of what to expect and the risks involved. Dr. Houston explained to us that the surgery is a tool not the solution and has encouraged me to attend the support groups. On a scale of 1-10, Dr Houston in my book is a 10.

My first impression of Dr. Houston is that he was very very cute and young. Then as he spoke i was able to add that he was very intelligant and truley concerned about his field. If anyone in Nashville has this surgery I would definatley reccomend Dr. Hugh Houston pronounced House-ten. His office contacted my family 3 times during surgery. After surgery he visted my room on serveral ocassions and introduced himself to every family member he incountered on each visit. He is truely concerned about our health as obese people. I could go on and on about Dr. Houston but I want to save space for more commpilments in the future.

Dr. Houston is professional and kind. He is very thorough and has a great bedside manner. He is very knowledgeable regarding current trends in obesity surgery and extremely supportive. His office staff is very efficient and caring along with the whole obesity program personnel there at Centennial Medical Center.

Love my doctor and his staff (Holly). He thinks I'm crazy and I like his sense of humor. He's very reliable and will call you back at any time. I will like to say that I was his 1st patient for the lap band and so we are going through this together. He is very cautious and takes his time. He's such a nice guy and I would advise anyone to check into using him as their doctor.
