My first impression of Dr. Houston was simply..gee he's young. I was looking for an older, experienced, routine procedure. I knew the sugery was very serious, a chance of complications and death, but Dr. Houston was confident, informative, relaxed and very approachable. He remain this way at the consultation, before surgery, after surgery and at every follow-up visit. After the consultation I thought young, healthy eyes, steady, confident hands, latest techniques and procedures and poise. I didn't feel guilty for being obese. He explained the digestive process, nutrition, weight gain, weight loss and that the Lap RNY was a tool that I could use to aide in my weight loss. He told me he'd done over 150 Lap RNY surgeries, he doesn't do the drainage tubes, because they cause more harm than good. I know I had no complications. Two days in the hospital and home with after care. I highly recommend Dr. Houston to anyone seeking Gastric Bypass surgery, Lap RNY procedure. His medical competence and bedside manner are both excellent.
Rudeness, indifference or plain shoddy work is inexcusable for any Dr, aside from that I believe a patient's realistic expections and behavior play a major role on successful surgery, besides Dr. competence and bedside manner. I'm a pretty agreeable patient, good listener, follow Dr's direction and understand that surgery has risks and pain, but in time you'll get better and feel like you old self again. Overall, Dr. Houston, his staff and the Centennial Bariatric Center, for me, has been exceptional.
First impression-- Friendly, thourgh, giving all the time nessary to give and recieve questions. And I must say very handsome young man.He is a young surgeon and not cold hearted and rushed yet.We know this seems to happen to some Drs.
First impression change:Nothing but positive changes.I like a lot of gastric bypass surgery patients thought for a few days following this surgery"what have I done" "I have made a horrible mistake", but like the Christmas story "YES VIRGINA THERE IS A SANTA CLAUSE" I found that passed quickly and I am so Thankfull. The only thing I would tell everyone is If you have reached this far it probably means you need to proceed.Don't wait untill medical problems and age gets you. I can say this because I was 62 and had numerous weight related medical problems.
Office staff: Exceptional can't be beat.Least liked and what should patients know:
As stated already Dr. Houston was everything that you will find in a surgeon. Any situation that might occur I would have to say it is the patients like of knowledge or the like of
communication with him.
Emphty:Excellent
Aftercare:It has been 3 months and everytime I go to see him he is upgradeing and adding great changes to his practice.
Addressing risks. ExcellentRate:Excellent
I know from past experiences with Drs. that both competence and bedside manners are a must.Yes both traits are out there you just have to look and expect. Dr. Houston has both.
My Wife And My-Self went to a GBS seminar
in August. He did the seminar,he answered
any question,s anyone had. Very knowledgeable.
We dicided to Go with Him because we will
not have as long a wait. We decided to
have the Lapro RNY. Because we feel we will be more sucessful keeping the weight off.
My wife Had her surgery Oct28. Dr. Houston said it was one of easiest surgery's to Date. Surgery took little over 2hours.
She was in the Hospital 4 days. Only problem
she had was a little fever. Which was respiratory. She only used pump for pain the
first Day only. Went To pills 2nd Day and
was able to walk up and down the Hall 3
time. She had Her 1st week Check up
and we found out She Lost 13lbs!!!!
I went to my Post-Op with Dr Houston.
He is very easy to talk to. He answers
any Question or Concern. He takes the
time to listen and make sure you have
not forgotten any Questions. My surgery
will be Dec 1. I will try to lose 20-25
lbs Because I could end up with Open Rny
Ill give it my best try.
My first impression with Dr. Houston was that he presented himself very well. He was the speaker at the WLS seminar I attended. It was obvious to me he was very knowledgeable about gatric bypass surgery. On my intial visit he exlpained the benefits and risk of having this surgery. They also have a structured aftercare program, where you meet with him and the dietican several times throughout the first year. And you can call him at any time with any questions or concerns. He is very easy to talk to and answered my questions at my level. I can't stand a doctor who seems rushed and when you ask him a questions it is so over your head he may as well not have opened his mouth.
Dr. Houston was not like that at all, he is very profesional and has an excellent bed side manner. In my opinion his skills as a surgeon are exceptional. On a lighter note ladies he very easy on the eyes.lol
His office nurse(Holly)is wonderful. She kept me updated throughout this whole process.
Dr Houston, was wonderful from thefirstsecond I met him and his assistant I felt comfortable and assured. I wouldn't know his true greatness and just how special he is until my surgery Sept 2,2003.We had planned for an easy in and out laproscopic procedure there was a chance of risk but nothing big. He comforted me before surgery before they put me to sleep. When I woke I learned that I had serious complications not only did i have a malrotation of organs but my appendix had to be removed during surgery he was great at keeping my family up on my progress and brought me through the darkness with God's help of course.I really loved him and he really cared about me checking on me everyday to be sure I felt ok.He's new to the game and young but that says nothing of his skills which were outstanding.
My first impression of him was he is wonderful. He sat and talked to me and my husband for about 1 1/2 hrs. He explained the operation inside and out. He even explained the difference in the operations in the 1970's to today. His office staff Holly is just as wonderful. He puts GREAT emphasize on the after care, I MUST attend a support meeting each month for the first year and attend each and every doctor's visits with him
