Ernest Rehnke Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.
I met Dr. Rehnke at the initial informational seminar. He is quiet and understated and very kind. I immediately felt he was someone whom you could trust. I have met with him since and he answered all of my questions clearly and plainly. He and his staff go over every aspects of surgery, including risk factors, several times at several stages. They use visual aids and written material. They are all very kind and patient and professional. Dr. Rehnke seems like a very nice man.
I met with Dr. Rehnke when I went for my initial consultation at his office in August 2004. I was supposed to have surgery in November 2004 but had problems with the insurance. Dr. Rehnke was very patient and very kind. I never felt like he was judging me in any way. He answered all of my questions thoroughly and I didn't feel like he was in a rush to get through with me and on to the next patient and his office was PACKED that day. Dr. Rehnke has a very calm demeanor and I felt totally at ease with him. I know 3 of his post-op patients and they all sing his praises. He's very straightforward, he explained everything although I think I'd done as much research as is humanly possible at that point. He talked about the procedure, what's expected of me as a patient, what my aftercare will be like. He did address the risks with me and I felt relieved that he's not one of those doctors who shies away from the hard questions. His staff is also wonderful to work with, especially Marlene and Patty. Marlene collects all the patient information and compiles the packet that is submitted to the insurance company. I've dealt with her frequently and she has always been courteous and encouraging. Patty deals with the insurance companies and even when I had my disappointment with BCBS, she brought me back up and encouraged me and was able to to give me good news this time around.
Just had my 2 year anniversary. It's been great! I'm at 129 - 130 and have been this weight for almost a year. I remember how scared I was before the surgery. But boy and I glad for it!
I am 10 months post-op and at goal. I love it!
I'm now two months post-op. I would recommend Dr. Rehnke to others. We were disappointed that on the day of surgery I was told to be at the hospital at 9am. Surgery wasn't until around 3:30ish that afternoon. No one seemed to know when I would be taken. Not even the nurses. We (my husband and I) did not see Dr. Rehnke prior to surgery. My husband expected to see him immediately following surgery and was disappointed to only receive a phone call in the waiting room telling him everything went fine. I saw Dr. Rehnke only one time while in the hospital... for about 30 seconds in ICU the day after surgery.
Had first appointment with Dr. Rehnke on 8/19/02. He appeared to be very patient and wanted to answer any questions. I really did not have many because I've done so much research on this. His staff was very friendly. Insurance has approved me. I've had pre-op work done. My next appointment with Dr. Rehnke is on Oct. 3. I'll have more questions for him then. My surgery date was for Oct. 11, but was rescheduled for Oct 18. Dr. Rehnke's office said he will be OOT on the 11th. I've heard very good things about Dr. Rehnke, and hoping to post many more positives following surgery.
How blessed I am to have been led to Dr. Rehnke. From the first support group we attended, I felt acceptance and hope, I felt like I really did have a future. I watched the look on Dr. Rehnke's face as he watched his patients talk about their journey. He was truly happy for them, he respected them and what they had done and were doing. He is patient and on a Saturday afternoon once a month he sits in a room and makes us feel like he is there as long as we need him. He explains about the surgery, the risks, pre-op care, post-op care and the importance of after care from taking your vitamins and drinking your water to attending support groups, and when needed, obtaining support from the psychologist. This journey is one of major changes. My appointment with Dr. Rehnke is October 18th. I'm so excited.
I was very impressed with Dr. Rehnke when i went to one of his seminar/support groups. I had been to other drs seminars before but never saw a turn out like i did for his .... must have been close to 300 people there. He was highly recommend and i learned why that day at the meeting. He's very straight forward but also cares about his patients. He was very informative about his way of doing the surgery, what was expected of his patients and that he was just giving us a "tool" to work with, its up to each individual patient to make it work for them to gain the success in losing the weight. He answered questions asked during the meeting plus you could also ask him one on one afterwards, i really liked that because he answered my biggest question/worry of all having open RNY. I would highly recommend anyone considering wl surgery to attend one of his seminars to find out for themselves. I also like the idea that they have a website set up for patients, family, and friends for support amongst one another.
I was very impressed with Doctor Rhenke. I have heard horror stories from other people and am grateful that I had such a competant surgeon. His office staff is very professional and helpful. I drove 3 hours to his office and the hospital and it was well worth the drive. I found him through my insurance company who did not cover the first surgeon that I found. He requires patients to come in monthly for 18 months following surgery and offers support group meetings monthly.
My experience with Dr. Earnest Rehnke was a very positive one. I see him as a very knowledgeable, talented, compassionate person who has a great sense of humor. He truly cares about his patients and wants to see them succeed at having a healthy life. He puts a lot of emphasis on a patient throughly researching the surgery, getting hooked up with a support system and staying involved with their supports after surgery. There is an aftercare program, which includes a web-site, for patients to participate in.
Dr. Rehnke only does the open RNY because he believes the laproscopic procedure is too risky for obese people. The laproscopic procedure can take up 2-4 hours to perform, as opposed to the open whih usually takes about an hour. The longer a person is under anastesia, the more at risk for complications or death. Dr. Rehnke is up front about the risks involved and emphasizes that the surgery is a tool, and we must use it properly in order for it to work.
Dr. Rehnke is an excellent surgeon who is both extremely competent, and he has a great bedside manner. I reommend him highly.
