Carl Rosati Bariatric Surgeon M.D.
From the moment I met Dr. Rosati, my first impression turned out totally right.
He is a very smart and caring man and knows his field of medicine very well. There was not a question he could not answer and his orientation to the surgery included everything in detail from start to finish.
Dr. Rosati only does the open procedure at this time and informs you completely on his reasons for doing so.
My surgery was 5/30/02 at Albany Medical Center. I am now 7 days post op without any complications at all. I am very happy with my insicion since it is only about 3 inches long and I only have stitches and steri strips. He is an excellant surgeon.
He is such a wonderful man. He was so nice and upfront about everything. He went over everything with me, from the benefits to the risks. He even made my son a balloon out of a glove. He didn't make me feel uncomfortable, which some doctor's have. We'll see how the surgery goes, so I can update more on him. But for now, I would recommend him to everyone!
I was surprised at first because Dr. Rosati has a long ponytail! But he was very calm and serious, with just the right touch of humor. He's fairly young, which I liked, and very confident without being cocky. I would describe him as quietly confident regarding his skills.
I only dealt with his office staff a couple of times, although the office took care of my insurance entirely. I didn't fill out one form or make one phone call. Amazing. His office staff does not ooz with warmth, but apparently they get the job done.
There is a semi structured support group which meets weekly at Albany Med every Thursday with which his group is involved.
I think everyone loves her own surgeon, and I certainly love mine. And he's cute to boot!
Overall, he is just what I wanted.

March 8, 2002: Met with Dr. Carl Rosati at Albany Medical Center today. I was mightily
impressed with his presentation and empathy for what we, the fighters, are going through
to achieve a better life.

Dr. Rosati paints no pretty picture. This is a huge decision, a radical and invasive
surgery, followed by a life-time committment. His approach is an hour (more like 1.5
hours) presentation to a number of candidates at one time. Diagrams, risks,
benefits, procedures, after-routines all discussed and questions welcomed and answered
succinctly in layman's terms. A lot of misconceptions addressed and resolved. I came
prepared and walked away ready to go.

The presentation was followed by a quick physical with the doctor and then one-on-one
discussion of plans for me specifically. This man looks you right in the eye and listens
to what you have to say. I was impressed and am totally ready to put myself in his hands
for the most dangerous part of this decision.

Total time from 1st visit with nutritionist on February 13, 2002 that was followed by
visit with dietician to my appt today with Dr. Rosati: 23 days!!! Surgery date set today
for April 8, 2002!!!

I met with Dr. Singh today and was extremely impressed with him. He was very patient and very easy to talk to. I had to wait about 45 but he took a lot of time with me and never made me feel rushed. He answered all of my questions and made the whole process seem pretty easy and straightforward. As soon as I coordinate all of my followup care with his office, he says I will be able to schedule a surgery date. Maybe as soon as 3 weeks.
After attending the support groups at Albany Medical I started questioning some things about Laproscopic vs. Open. I have subsequently decided on Open and have decided to go with Dr. Rosati instead. I had no bad experiences with Dr. Singh but feel that Dr. Rosati is the better choice for open surgery. Dr. Rosati is also wonderful and great to talk to. He did a group information session and that was very informative and then we had one-on-one consultations. It was all quite easy really. The staff filled out my insurance paperwork and scheduled my Pre-op stuff today. I'll keep you up to date. But if you can get to a support group GO GO GO ... I have learned more from listening to the people who have done this then from anything else.
# 1 Awesome surgeon
# 2 My opion of Dr. Rosati is unwaivering.
# 3 Dr. Rosati's staff is very competent and

---The epidural ( not Dr. Rosati)
was very unpleasant during insertion
but helpful after the surgery with
pain management.
# 4 Nothing, Dr. Rosati is always reachable
# 5 He tells is like it is--NO surprises
# 6 Aftercare is essential!
# 7 I work with a team Surgeon/Nutritionist
& Primary Doctor.
# 8 He listed out the pro's/con's on paper
so they could be discussed with loved
ones
# 9 In a heartbeat I would put my life back
into his hands.
Dr Rosati has a very good bedside manner. His office staff is very compentant. After care is very important. He spends about 50 minutes on the risks of the surgery and 10 minutes on the benifits of the surgery. He wants to make sure you know what your getting into and that it is not something to take lightly.
MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF DR. ROSATI WAS NOT FLATTERING TO HIM. I FOUND THAT HE WAS A JERK. AFTER LISTENING TO ALL HE HAD TO SAY AND SEEING THE FOCUS HE PUT ON ME MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION FOR MYSELF MY DEFENSIVE STUBBOURNESS TURNED INTO SINCERE ADMIRATION. HIS OFFICE STAFF IS A WONDERFUL GROUP OF PEOPLE GEARED TOWARD HELPING YOU IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE. DR. ROSATI IS VERY VERY HONEST AND UP FRONT. HE WILL SEE YOU THROUGH THE SURGERY ALL THE WAY AND CONTINUE TO BE THERE AFTERWARDS. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS A BIG DECISION AND A VERY SERIOUS SURGERY. ON A SCALE OF 1 - 10 DR. ROSATI WOULD BE A STRONG 12. A COMBINATION OF BOTH ARE A KEY ASSETT IN A PATIENTS RECOVERY.
