Dr. Boe was great. He took the time to answer all of my questions and even chuckle when I handed him a copy of the questions I would like answered.

I felt comfortable knowing Dr. Boe has done many RNY surgeries.

So far I have only had the consult, but he was super re-assuring, friendly and personable. He didn't act like I was dirt like some docs tend to do. Office staff was also really nice. They let my 3 yo daughter come and sit at their desk and draw pics. She thought they were GREAT! :)

My consult with Dr. Boe was for Lapband-to-Bypass conversion. rnrnAs others have mentioned in these postings, Dr. Boe is a highly knowledgeable and compassionate doctor. He thoroughly explained the surgery including risks and complications. He was very open, honest, and answered all of my questions. But when I asked him specifically how many Lapband-to-Bypass conversions he’s done, he answered “3”. I appreciated his honesty, but I high-tailed it out of his office like one of those cartoon characters who leaves a trail of dust. To me, three just wasn’t enough.rnrnSo I spent the next month researching surgeons from Chicago to Milwaukee to find one who had more experience than Dr. Boe with this specific surgery. Many insisted they had extensive experience with conversions, but when I pressed on, they finally admitted it was Stomach Stapling-to-Bypass conversion. From the ones I spoke to, none (yes, zero) had experience with Lapband-to-Bypass conversions. One said, “What the heck, I’ll give it a try.” (“Not on me you won’t!” I thought to myself.) Another (at ENH) was so elusive that he refused to give me a specific number thru email or over the phone. I had to come in for a consult. So I went in, was told to pay a $20 copay which I did, and then I sat alone in his waiting room for 1.5 hours. Sitting there I realized that if I’m treated this poorly before surgery, things wouldn’t get better as a patient. So I decided to walk out. As I was leaving, the doctor came running up to me and said he was ready to see me now. I said it was too late. Instead of apologizing or even just explaining, he simply shrugged, said “Ok” and then turned to his nurse and asked, “Who’s next?” His blatant disrespect and arrogance outweighed any experience he may have had. It’s then that I went back, no, RAN back, to Dr. Boe!rnrnAlso, from the surgeons who did conversions (Stomach Stapling-to-Bypass) they all said they only did open surgeries for conversions. However, Dr. Boe said he was willing to try to do it laparoscopically (which I believe is more difficult for the surgeon but less painful for the patient).rnrnMy laparoscopic Lapband-to-Bypass conversion surgery with Dr. Boe was successfully completed on 9-20-06. I have nothing but extreme praise for Dr. Boe and the entire Barix staff who treated my family and me with such warmth and caring. There really is no better place on Earth to go for Bypass or Lapband-to-Bypass surgery than to Barix and Dr. Boe!rnrnMy only regret is not having had the surgery years ago. Too much time was wasted in pain. rnrnAdvice to others: DON’T WAIT!!!rnrnThanks, Dr. Boe!!! :-)rnrnForever grateful,rnrn- - Michellern

'Dr. Boe is very professional

'Right away I was extremely comfortable around Dr. Boe. He explained all of the details of the surgery to me (even drawing pictures on a dry board) to make sure that I understood all of the benefits and risks of the surgery. He even joked around with my mom about mailing her his tie (that she complimented him on) after he was finished with it. He was very friendly and easy to talk to. He did not rush me and answered any and all questions that me

My first impression of him is that he is a smart and caring indidvidual. He told me that I would be able to get Laproscopic, instead of an large open incesion. I was very happy about that.

I LOVE this man!! Very competent and knows what he's doing. Great sense of humor with a very warm smile. He answered every question to my liking and didn't pressure me at any point to have the surgery or into cutting the session short. I felt very comfortable with him and he was genuine. He addresed all aspects of the surgery along with pre and post-op care. I'm happy with my choice!!

The entire staff at Barix Clinic/Northwestern Suburban Community Hospital in Belvidere, IL was great. Dr. Boe was professional and personable when I talked to him before and after surgery. He made me feel safe and that, to me, was the most important thing. The only negative thing I have to say is that I don't feel like I got a lot of one on one time with him to ask questions, although the nursing staff was there to help with any of those questions I didn't get to ask Dr. Boe. During my two night/three day stay there I came into contact with A LOT of nurses. At first I tried to keep track of all their names but because there were so many wonderful ladies working with me (not to mention I was on a lot of morphine) I was unable to. I didn't see a place to talk about the rest of the hospital staff and I really wanted to stress how great these particular ladies were so here we go. The second night in the hospital I got a fever and was worried that I wouldn't get to go home, or that there was something horribly wrong with me. One of the over-night nurses stayed with me in my room and talked to me to help me relax and feel better when I couldn't find the number to the hotel where my mom was staying. She didn't have to do that, but I was very grateful she did. I highly recomend Barix Clinic, all of the people there were caring and helpful.
