i think my dr. (brian boe) was very thorough in explaining the pros and cons of surgery. i had done alot of investigating on my own before i went to my consultation, so i knew alot of what he was explaining. i do feel that the staff of the center i am going through, was not as patient with my phone calls as i thought they should have been.
My husband and I met with Dr. Boe on August 22, 2000 at Bariatric Treatment Center in Belvidere, IL. He is young and very nice. I felt comfortable with him immediately, which is unusual as doctors tend to intimidate me. But he answered all my questions, not that I had many as I've studied so much about WLS that my list was rather short. He drew a diagram of the surgery on a board and described the procedure very easily to us both. He set my husband's fears at ease as up to that point, he wasn't real sure about going ahead with WLS. I think Dr. Boe and I are going to get along JUST FINE! My surgery date is Nov. 1, 2000.
My surgery is over now and I'm 5 days post op. What a great guy Dr. Boe is. He was so gentle and kind. If any of you pre-ops in the Illinois area are considering WLS and wondering just where you should go, BTC is the place!!! That's what the specialize in and they know what to do for every symptom, from a gurgle in you stomach to major pain (which I have to say...isn't all that bad!)!! Go for it pre-op friends!!! It's a fabulous experience!!
I had my Initial Consultation with Dr Boe and already had in the back of my mind that I wanted Dr Schlesinger to do my surgery since he was the most experienced. But after meeting with Dr Boe, I was very pleased with him personally and professionally. I felt comfortable communicating with him. Dr Boe explained the risks and procedure completely and allowed me to spend some time "interviewing" him. I made some calls to the Dept of Regualtions and Licensing where he is in good standings and have complete faith in his abilities.
The doctor I had my consultation with and the one who will do my surgery is Dr. Brian Boe at the Belvediere, ILL. location of Bariatric Treatment Center. He was very helpful in answering all my questions (and I had a lot of them). He did his residency in bariatric surgery and that is his specialty. Like anything else, when you want the best you go to a specialist.
I think Dr. Boe is great, but when I met him at the consultation I was really unsure of him ... he was pretty much mechanical, which seems the norm - giving that speech over and over must be boring. He asked if I had questions and I really didn't know enough about things to ask many.
I saw Dr. Boe the next time right before I went into surgery ... he was kind, smiled and reassured me that it would be ok. He was right!
I feel very fortunate that I have recovered from my procedure so quickly and have had no post-op problems. I applaud BTC's staff - the nurses are fabulous, the lung therapists (especially Brian Smith), the dieticians, Dr. Hess, the other bariatric surgeons and of course Dr. Boe. I felt very secure in all of their hands and feel that is why I have done so well.
I am very happy with Dr. Boe - I feel he is a great surgeon. I have come to know him as a nice, friendly and caring man. I would recommend him to anyone considering this surgery.
At my 2-week checkup Dr. Boe was very happy to see I had done so well. We even had our picture taken together. I go next week for my 6-week checkup.
I am very glad I took the chance - for all surgery is a chance - and had the gastric bypass, it is my new lease on life!
I HAVE BEEN FOR A CONSULTATION AT THE BARIATRIC TREATMENT CENTER HOSPITAL IN BELVIDERE, ILL. THE SURGICAL PROCEDURE AND DIET WERE EXPLAINED TO ME BY DR.BRIAN BOE AND A PATIENT COUNCELOR WHO HAD SURGERY HERSELF A YEAR AGO. THEY WERE VERY HELPFUL AND INFOMATIVE. THE DR. SAID I SHOULD BE APPROVED ON MY EXCESS WEIGHT ALONE. I ALSO HAVE OSTEO ARTHRITIS, ASTHMA, LOWER EXTREMITY EDEMA, SHORTNESS OF BREATH, AND JOINT AND MUSCLES PAIN. THEY SEEMED TO THINK I HAVE A VERY GOOD CHANCE OF BEING APPROVED BY THE INS. CO.
DR. BOE WAS VERY PLEASENT AND INFORMATIVE. HE POINTED OUT RISKS AND DESCRIBED SOME COMPLICATIONS--AND ALSO TOLD ME WHAT HE WOULD DO TO MINIMIZE THESE RISKS. HE MADE A VERY GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION. I KNOW 2 OTHER WOMEN FROM CEDAR RAPIDS WHO HAD HIM AS THEIR SURGEON AND THEY WERE VERY PLEASED--ESPECIALLY WITH THE AMOUNT OF TIME HE TAKES FOR RETURN VISITS ALLOWING AMPLE TIME FOR QUESTIONS AND FOLLOW UP INFORMATION.
My surgeon is Dr. Brian Boe. He has recently joined the Bariatric Treatment Center in Belvidere, Illinois. He was very cordial during our initial consultation and answered all my questions clearly and completely. He didn't seem concerned that I had researched the surgery so much and had some questions. He was also very forthcoming when I questioned him about his experience with the proximal open RNY. The staff at BTC was short-handed on that day, but they still managed to keep the process from feeling rushed and they provided a very welcoming and supportive atmosphere.
Surgery went well and I felt very comfortable throughout my stay at BTC. The staff is very understanding of the issues that the morbidly obese face and they take care with large size patients to ensure successful outcomes. Several staff members have had the surgery and can be very reassuring that you are experiencing normal reactions to the experience.
I only met Dr. Boe one time, but my impression was that he was very informative and easy to talk to. I had lots of questions because I did lots of research and he very patiently answered all of them. I liked him as soon as I saw him and my family doctor has also spoken with him and likes him too. I feel very confident about his skill and experience and have no qualms about him performing this surgery on me.
