My surgereon is Dr. Boe of the Bariatric Treatment Center of Illinois. I have only met him once, when I went in for my initial consult. He seemed fine, answered all my questions. I will have my pre-op exam next week and I will know more about what is going to happen then.
I met with Dr. Boe in the pre-op room prior to surgery. He talked with me and asked me if I had any additional questions. He was very supportive. Then next thing I remember is that I was in recovery and he was telling my husband that everything went fine.
I saw him again for my 2 week check up. He was great. I totally recommend Dr. Boe. He is very knowlegable, professional and a great surgeon. My rating overall is the highest I can give him. I have nothing whatsoever negative to say about him.
Very Competent Individual, although a Bit blown away with all the knowledge I had of the procedure including risks, statistics, etc. Let\'s just say I make sure I know what I\'m getting into before I do anything. Because of this, Dr. Boe and I had a charming 20 minute consultation, he answered many questions, plus it\'s good to hear he has a reputation for beautiful/small incisions. Bonus! The Nurse who came in later was also a patient of Dr. Boe\'s, she was 2 years post op, and looked very healthy, she also answered any questions I may have, checked all my forms with me before being submitted to headquarters in Michigan. Forgive me as I do not remember her name, but I\'m sure I will see her again shortly. Approval letter came from my insurance company only 3 weeks after initial consult, perhaps because I had already had a Sleep study within the last few months. I Schedules myself 11/30/2001 for 02/27/2001 to coincide with taking the necessary time of from work, and the people at the hospital were more then help full in working around my hectic work/travel schedule.
Overall, so far.. I rate the pre-op Experience an A-, and only the minus for some Phone-Tag with headquarters, but hey, not every office can be perfect. ;-)
When I first met Dr. Boe on Nov. 30th I had not a clue as to what he was going to be like. I figured he was just like any Dr. Dr. Boes turned out to be a very caring Dr. He explained things in detail and always asked if I or my mom had questions. His staff was really nice and they did not seem like a \"Normal\" Dr.\'s ofc. They seemed like long lost friends. I would recommend Dr Boe\'s to anyone...
Very nice and understanding. Easy to talk to. The BTC was very helpful and handled all paperwork quickly and correctly. He explained the surgical risks to me in detail at our consultation. I did not have to have a psychiatric consult. I liked the idea that this surgery is performed at a hospital dedicated to bariatric surgery, not just a regular hospital with a bariatric program. After Surgery: Dr Boe very good and compitent. Surgery from start to end of recovery 3 hours. Discharged on day 4. No complications to date (7days post op). Tolerating diet, little pain, no nausea or vomiting.
6/5/01: I met with Dr. Brian Boe today at BTC in Belvidere, IL. I was sitting in the waiting room, and Dr. Boe came walking through, smiled and said Hi.(Neither he or I knew at that time that I was there to see "him"). When I was in the consult room waiting for him, I stepped out to use the restroom, and he said "oh no, she's escaping!" and we both laughed. When he finally came in, I was so releaved this nice man was actually Dr. Boe! He is fairly young, good looking, and has beautiful blue eyes. He did not talk like he was a robot...he was very detailed about the procedure, and answered the MANY questions I had for him. I was very impressed and would highly recommend Dr. Boe for anyone who is looking into Bariatric Surgery. He is a true professional and very knowledgeable. I was so worried about this procedure, and he put my worries to rest.
Dr. Boe has a wonderful bedside manner and I feel very confident having him as my surgeon.
11/26/01: I am almost 15 weeks post-op and down around 50 pounds. I am very happy with my decision to have WLS and to have Dr. Boe as my surgeon. While I was waiting in the pre-op room getting ready for surgery, Dr. Boe came in and seen that I was scared and he helped to ease my mind. My scar is only about 4 inches long, and I didn't have any complications to speak of. Dr. Boe is a very respectable, caring surgeon. I have recommended several friends to Dr. Boe and I know they'll be as happy as I am.
My first impression of Dr. Boe was WOW he is so young. When I went in for my consultation(September 11th of all days)I wasn't sure if this was something that was right for me. By the time I left I knew that this was what I needed to do for myself and my family. Dr. Boe was very thorough in his answers to my questions and made sure I understood all aspects of this surgery. He was also very kind and managed to crack a few jokes to boot. I think he knew how nervous I was.
It sounds like BTC has a structured after care program. Dr. Boe explained that there would be several follow-up appointment. He also explained all the risks very thoroughly and made sure I understood the risks also.
Overall, I would so far rate him as a great, competent surgeon. I feel very comfortable allowing him to do my surgery.
My first impression of Dr. Boe was a good one. He first asked what questions we had.{my husband went with me} After we asked questions, he described the surgery, he also drew a picture. He was very professional but very down to earth also.
His office staff was great. Very helpful and informative.
I really can't think of anything I DIDN'T like about him.
He talked about aftercare, told us everything to expect. He does have a structured aftercare program. Meetings once a month which I was told I could attend now if I wanted to. He was very honest about the risks of surgery.
Overall I would rate him high. He spoke very confidently but never made our questions sound foolish. He is a very nice man.
