I think Dr. Vanguri is a very good surgeon. He is a very soft spoken man. I was excited to meet him when I went for my initial consultation. In my mind all I could think about was this is the man who could change my life forever as well as end it if something goes wrong.
I only saw him twice before the surgery. 1st at the intial appt. when he took me and 3 other potentials into his office and explained the procedure and answered any and all questions. I had the most questions. The sencond time was a week before the surgery when I went for my orientation. His nurse Beverly, who also had the surgery, conducted the orientation. She went over everything you need to know before surgery, right after, what to expect when you get home, what you can and can not eat the first month, and what to look for on food labels. It was very informative and I'm glad they have that in place.
Dr. Vanguri is an excellent surgeon. The only problem I've had was when he tried to draw my blood at my first post-op visit. It was not a succesful draw and it was a little painful. From now on I am going to my regular doctor to get my quarterly blood draws.
On the day of surgery he was very comforting and he held my hand as I drifted off into lala land. He came to see me all 3 days that I was in the hospital and he seemed genuinely concerned with how I was feeling. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give him a 9. The only reason not a 10 is because I had laproscopic but he also made a 3 inch incision down the middle which I'm not too happy with but I lived through it and I came out alive so I'm happy and very thankful.
Met with Dr. Vanguri back in 1998 when I was originally researching this surgery - but he wasn't under my insurance plan at that time. I had my RNY done by Dr. Salem but gained back all my weight.
I went back to Dr. V (it's now 5 years later) and he IS able to have me as a patient (plus I'm with a new company and new insurance). He is very quiet but compentent and I feel at ease having him re-do my surgery.
He has once a month support group meetings (usually at Franklin Square Hospital). His office staff is great! I have my pre-surgery visit on June 24th - and my revision is scheduled for July 24, 2003. I'll fill you in after my surgery on the rest of the details.
Dr. Vanguri and his staff was extremely friendly. I had many questions and he was able to answer all of them! He went over the risks of the surgery as well as the different types of surgeries that are available. The only thing that I was a little concerned about was how familiar the Dr. was with the Lap surgery. I would love to this done laparscopically (spl), but I recall when I first schedule an appointmnet I was told that Dr. Vanguri did not perform this method of surgery. Eveidentlly he is now doing so or will be in the near future. My concern revolved around the learning curve of performing such a surgery and whether a Dr. should have a certain number of successfully completed Lap surgeries before considering. On the positive side, he does his other gall bladder and syomoche related surgies using the lap tecnique so the tecnique itself is not new to him. He indicated that one must be under 300 lbs to have this performed and it is less intrusuve and the recovering time is less severe. I hope to have it done this way. Overall, I would rate Dr. Vanguri as very good thus far!
Dr. Vanguri is a great doctor. He has
been doing this for 20 years so I think
he will do a good job.
I first contacted his office in sept of
2002. My conult was oct 31st. Letter
went out to insurance company mid nov
and I was approved right after christmas.
I have yet to be scheduled a surgery date
his office said scheduling will resume
in feb. I hope for a date by april or may.
This is a long process expect it to
take around 6-9months from the time you
contact the office until surgery.
MY FIRST IMPRSSION WAS VERY GOOD. HE WAS SINCERE AND VERY CARING.STRAIGHT FORWARD.I HAVE ALWAYS FELT THAT HE IS A GREAT SURGEON.I DONT SEE HIM, ONLY EVERY THREE MONTHS.
HIS STAFF IS VERY BUSY AND THEY DO CHANGE A BIT BUT THAT IS ONLY BECAUSE THE OFFICE IS SO BUSY SOME EMPLOYEES CANT TAKE THE HIGH VOLUME. FOR THE MOST PART I DO ENJOY GOING TO HIS OFFICE. I WILL WARN ANYONE WHEN GOING FOR A VISIT BE PREPARED TO GET CLOSE TO THE OTHER PATIENTS THAT HAVE APT THE SAME TIME YOU DO BECAUSE IT ALWAYS SEEMS LIKE A MINI MEETING WHILE WAITING TO BE CALLED.SOME TIMES I STAY AFTER MY APT BECAUSE IM HAVING CONVERSATION WITH ANOTHER PATIENT. IT DOES FEEL GOOD THOUGH.
DR V IS THOROUGH AND WILL ANSWER ANY QUESTION YOU HAVE. AFTER CARE IS GOOD IF ANYTHING HAPPENS YOU CAN CALL DR V ON HIS CELL PHONE AND HE WILL CALL YOU BACK. THE STAFF IN HIS OFFICE WILL ALSO RESPOND TO ANY QUESTION OR CONCERN WITHOUT BYASS. YOU WILL FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE AT THIS OFFICE.
THE ONLY NEGATIVE IS THE SMALL OFFICE AND THAT THEY ARE SO BUSY. ONE LAST THING WHEN YOU ENTER THE OFFICE THE DOOR IS VERY HEAVY AND IT WILL HIT YOU IN THE B*TT. THESE MINIMAL THIS HAVE NOT EVER EFFECTED MY CARE OR OUT COME THUS FAR.
I WOULD RATE DR V AND HIS OFFICE STAFF A 9+, (ON A SCALE FROM 1-10)
Dr Vanguri is a very kind soft spoken doctor who has answered all of my questions, and I have had a lot of them. The office staff is very friendly, and they also answer any questions you can think of. They have a very structured aftercare plan, and they make sure you know that the things they tell you to do after your surgery, are very important for you to follow.
I would rate him a 10!!
He was wonderful. My surgeon answered all my questions, took his time and explained things to me so I could make the best decision. The office staff were great as well. There was one office assistance who was his patient which gave everyone a chance to actually hear from a "real" patient and understand what happens. What I liked least was the office hours and sometimes trying to get through. The phone would ring or I would get the voice mail, now they were good about returning phone calls, but when you are ready and need to speak someone right then and there, sometimes you want to speak to an actually person. I would rate him overall as excellent, follow-up care was good, several other physicians I see knows him and knows of his work which is good.
As everyone says he is very quiet, soft spoken, but very nice. I was conformtable with him, he was well spoken. The first visit is like a group visit there where like 6 or 7 of us and he took us all into a room and explained each procedure he does and allowed questions. Then we all went back to the waiting room and met with him indivually. This was very efficient, it allows him to see more people at a time.
