This review are just my personal impressions of my own personal experience and I am making no statements about what other people may experience.

I found Dr. Vanguri to be atypical for a surgeon - he does listen to you :-) . He did tell me he doesn't do lapband because he doesn't see long-term results. He was flexible in scheduling me with St. Joseph's hospital rather than Franklin - which was a benefit to me from an insurance standpoint. Dr. Vanguri indicated that he would try to do the procedure laproscopically and if he needed to he would go in open. In my case, he said the instruments got tangled and I had an enlarged liver so he ended up going in open. That was disappointing to me - especially hearing that the instruments got tangled. He has a good bedside manner. He lists about 200 risks of surgery - some are really "out there" so that wasn't really informative for me. He is very open for questions and concerns and did completely explain the different procedures. He has a monthly support group that I didn't attend - because my insurance has their own specified nutritionists and nurse managers. I also have 4 friends that have had the surgery that I was able to go to for questions.

His receptionist was nice to me - but I did not find the office manager/scheduler, Barbara, to be pleasant at all. In my case, I had approval from the insurance and called to get a surgery date. Apparently the paperwork had not been sent to the doctor's office and I couldn't be scheduled that day. After that when I called the office I was told she was on vacation and couldn't schedule (no one else in the office could schedule either). Then once she was back - I called and left several messages over several days - that I did not get a return call on. It took about 10 days for the surgery to be scheduled. It was scheduled for 2 weeks after that. In my opinion it could have been scheduled much sooner and I found the wait very frustrating.

Post care was a visit to remove staples and get a vitamen shot. Then a check each month after that. So far so good.

Doctor Vanguri is a kind and gently man. He has stood by me through tumultuous years and frustrating times where I have lost excessive weight and nearly died. His breadth of concern was exemplary. He was always there when my physicians called or he would call to get updates on my condition. He always knew your name and your history. He was very strict with his patients about supplements, caloric intake, exercise, follow-ups and would become quite besotted if you missed appointments even if you properly canceled them. He made sure you understood the consequences of every aspect of your particular surgery. On a scale of 1-10 he is an 11 for he always would go above and beyond the call of duty.

My first impression of Dr. Vanguri was that he was very serious about his work. That was a long time ago, since I had an RNY/BPD in April of 1998. I have had the utmost respect for Dr. V since that time. I have never lost touch since I still kept my yearly appts. I know that I could have done a better job, but that was not his fault. His office staff is very responsive and friendly. If there is any one thing about Dr. Vanguri that is not good is that he is way too nice. He doesn't give lectures if you gain weight, he seems to try to understand why. He does not really have a structured after care program. It is up to the individual if they want to attend the support group meetings monthly. I know, I for one, will attend the meetings. If I were searching for a WLS surgeon, he would be my choice.

The first time I meet my surgeon, I was weirded out due to him not having great english. But when it came down to the day of the surgery, I had full faith in his abilities. He is very nice and was good to talk too about any issues.

I was very impressed with Dr. Elariny the first time I met him was at a seminar that his office was giving. He was nice, he answered all our questions. He seemed very knowledgeable about the different kinds of surgery and explained each one. He also explained post-op care, the importance eating enough protein, taking our vitamins and drinking enough water. I choose him because a. my doctor recommended him, b. he has preformed a lot of surgeries. But he does not take my insurance and I do not want to pay out of pocket. rnSo I went to see Dr. Vanguri he accepts my insurance and seemed nice.
