The Denver Center for Bariatric Surgery Bariatric Center
OK. I'm now post-op and very glad that I went with Dr. Chae. He is a top notch surgeon. It was the easiest surgery I've ever gone through and I'm sure it was due to Dr. Chae's expertise. He also will set appointments on Saturdays which is essential for me since it is a 5 hour drive to his office. In my opinion that is just another indication of how much he cares about his patients as people not just surgeries. I'd rate him great on both surgical competence and bedside manner.
.
Met Dr. Chae on Saturday. He seemed to be as everyone described; knowledgeble, caring, and kind. He explained everything very well including risks and possible outcomes. He requires a bariatric nutrition class beforehand taught by Kelly Elliot (sp) which was very thorough and lasted 5 hours. I'm still pre-op but at this point I would rate him a 10.
My first impression of Dr. Snyder was how real and genuinely interested in helping people get their lives back from a lifetime of living large. Visiting his webite at DenverBariatrics.com I found myself impressed with the amount of information facing me. When I attended his lecture it was truely not a sales pitch, but a honest presentation of the facts facing the obese person. The forum of patients, both the ones who just sailed through and those with complications, was very impressive.
Over time I found all of my first impressions were accurate, not only with Dr. Snyder, but with his whole staff and support structure.
The only unsettling thing I found was how postive Dr. Snyder was about helping me. I have tried so many plans, diets, doctors, clinics, groups, etc through the years, all of which were full of hypes about helping me so I was leary about just another thing. Boy was I wrong! My life is changed, transformed, at only 7 weeks out of surgery! He was right, he could help me!
My advice to anyone who consults with Dr. Snyder, be real with him, honest about everything in your life, the good and the bad! Don't try to hide anything! He needs the straight truth to keep you as safe as possible. Be honest with yourself and him how painful all the little things are about being obese, or super obese like I WAS!
The process for preparation may seem long with lots of hoops, but these are here to prevent anything unexpected during and after your surgery. I got a little tired of one more specialist for screening, but the peace of mind and the lack of complications through this process made up for it.
I know that Dr. Snyder and his group will be there for me long after surgery. The support offered to me after surgery has been wonderful. The classes by Kim Delamont are not to be missed and are essential. There are lots of support groups available. They give you tons of other resources you can use at your lesiure.
Dr. Snyder will be upfront with the risks with the surgery in a straightforward manner, which I appreciated. Lying on the operating table, the team led by Patrick Sawyer, at my request, prayed over me and then it was lights out. What a peaceful way to go under the knife! After surgery he contacted my husband immediatley with my condition.
I would rate Dr. Snyder and his team with their professionalism, care, competence and genuine concern for you as an individual at the top of the top.
I chose Dr. Chae because of his reputation as being one of the most gifted bariatric surgeons as well as being a warm and caring physician.
I am now 2 weeks postop and I can happily say that Dr. Chae more than lived up to his reputation. I can't recommend him more highly.
Pre-op Dr. Chae carefully explained the surgical procedure and any and all possible complications. He even took the time to address some of my family and friend's worries.
Post-op Dr. Chae came around to see me several times a day. He carefully expained the details of the surgery and the medications I was receiving. He made me feel I was involved in my own care.
The Skyridge Hospital staff were all so warm, gentle and competent, I hated to leave.
The nursing staff told me over and over that Dr. Chae was their favorite Dr!
Susie is very positive and upbeat and a doll to work with.
Kelly is extraordinary in he knowledge and her experience with all the things baratric patients need to know about their new bodies. She is easy to talk to and made me feel I could ask any question no matter hw silly.
I had the best possible surgical experience.
The first thing you notice about Dr. Snyder is his hyper-activity. I went to one of his seminars with my Wife and was impressed with his experience and complication rates. He is very thorough, and expects a lot of pre-work to be done before he even considers you for the surgery. I thought that was great. He's not the type of surgeon that tries to rush you to the operating table. He's assembled a great staff, and I was suprised how little work my wife and I had to do to get improved through our insurance (UHC).
The surgery itself was uneventful, since I don't remember a thing. I do remember getting on the OR table and telling the anestetheologist, "I'm a little nervous". He then replied, "That's ok, I have some anti-nervous medicine here for you". After he told me that, I was completely out. I woke up at in recovery and went to a hospital room. My only complaint is that I saw Dr. Snyder once a day for 5 minutes or so, and it seemed that he was too busy to really talk about anything. I was concerned about a few things and he basically said, "Don't worry about it", without taking a little time to tell me why I shouldn't be concerned.
Dr. Snyder said my surgery was technically difficult, but had no major complications.
The nursing staff was nice. I did have issue with the pulmanory nurses - After I saw the pulmanary doctor and was told one thing, I would then get a visit from a pulmanary nurse that seemed to be intent on contradicting what the doctor said. While it was an annoyance, it wasn't a big deal.
Kim Delmont, the nurse practicioner who works with Dr. Snyder is great, and has a wealth of knowledge on minor pain questions and nutrition information. You're required to have 1, 3,6 week nutrition classes with Kim, and so far I've attended the 1 week class and learned a lot about how to use my new stomach. Kim's great.
Overall rating is 8 out of 10. He would gain a point on reducing the nurse mis-communication with him post-op and a point by not rushing through checkups as quickly as he does.
His technical ability gets a 10.
Kim and his staff gets a 10.
MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF DR SNYDER WAS THAT HE CAME VERY HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED. AND THEY WERE ALL RIGHT. I LOVED HIM. OVER TIME I GREW TO LOVE HIME EVEN MORE, HE MAKES EVERY PATIENT FEEL LIKE THE ONLY PATIENT.HIS STAFF IS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL.HE REALLY EMPHASIZES AFTER CARE ALOT, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT.HIS AFTERCARE PROGRAM IS VERY STRUCTURED AND HE HAS A NURSE PRACTITIONER WHO DOES ALL OF HIS NUTRITION TRAINING. SHE ALSO IS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND WONDERFUL.HE COMPLETELY DESCRIBED ALL OF THE RISKS AND MADE ME FEEL VERY COMFORTABLE WITH ALL. OVERALL I WOULD GIVE HIM THE HIGHEST RECCOMENDATION AS HE WAS THE VERY BEST.
I just want everyone to know what a great surgeon I have. Dr. Snyder did everything just perfect. I had my operation 09/19/05 and I am home already on 09/22/05 (my wifes birthday). I think he is truly a skilled handed surgeon. He explained all the risks to consider before surgery and the after care was darn good as well. He is a truly great human as well.
I was very impressed with Dr Chae. I had orig picked another surgeon but then heard of Dr Chae. I went to one of his info meeting and was impressed from the start. He wasn't trying to convince people to have it. He was sharing his knowledge. He was very open for questions.
I believe in him. My brother recently had his surgery with him also. If I would recommend him to my brother I would recommend him for anybody.
Caring but rushed. No he still seems rushed all the time but he takes the time to see how your are doing. His staff is great. His aftercare is his strongest point he gets across and that it is very structured. When you first go to his talk of surgery he covers all the risks and he has former patients there to go over what they have gone through. I would give him a 9 out of 10. Both his competence and bedside manner are great.
I was a little fearfull meeting Dr. Snyder for the first time. He immeadiatly set me at ease and was very easy to talk to and answered my questions directly with language that was easy to understand. All of my correspondence pre and post surgery was handled very quickly with Dr. Syder. The office staff is very cordial and wants to help the patient. Dr. is very interested in his patients well being and does not come across like so many DRs who seem to look down or talk down to their patients. Dr. encourages pre and after care along with support groups, which he has set up in various communities. I am very pleased with both the surgical procedure and bedside manner of both Dr. Snyder and Patrick Sawyer. My overall rating for Dr. Snyder is a an 11 on 1-10 scale.
thank you Dr. Snyder and staff

I had my initial consultation with Dr. Snyder on Aug.3rd 2005, after attending his seminar on July 28th. I was very impressed with the seminar and got in to see him right away. His office staff are so nice and helpful. I have a few more tests to get done before he would schedule me for surgery. That's ok...he's very careful about your problems and wants to be sure all the bases are covered for a most successeful outcome. He doesn't want any surprises when he "gets in there". I feel very confident that I have chosen the best surgeon for me. Here's hoping for a surgery date coming up soon. I so ready to become one of Dr Snyder's "losers."
